Yeah, you can not like something, that's ok, you have your reasons. Probably because of physical condition or something. You don't like it because you don't feel any motivation to do it. But that's all the more reason to make a kid like it, so he gets to get used to practicing sports and take care of their condition before it's too late I seriously can't believe he said that. But at the same time I can believe it because prejudice: "huh, typical American"

Having experienced the way European football fans are passionate about their clubs my whole life, American fan culture seems so commercialised, standardised, and sanitised... I would imagine that having no relegation in your leagues and the owners being able to just relocate the team/franchise to another city at the drop of a hat has something to do with that. Not being fan of a particular club myself, I can still understand how you can be incredibly emotionally invested seeing your local medium-sized club fighting their way from just about avoiding relegation down to 4th league one year, to making it to the 1st league a decade later, having celebrated the wins and mourned the losses in the stadium... but without anything like relegation at stake in US leagues, I can't see that kind of passion coming about.

All your points are salient but this is a crucial difference:)

The ultras are put in their own corner of the stadiums so that they dont scare the normal people. All these videos are europe are only depicting the ultras. The rest of the stadium isnt acting like this.

I’m a Brighton fan just over twenty years ago (1996-1997 season) we survived relegation from the 4th division on the last day of the season by goal difference drawing Hereford ( who were relegated as they needed the win) now we are a premier league team with a modern stadium and international players . This is what makes football special, there’s a video you might want to check out called twenty years of Brighton on the clubs KZread page gives a good insight into what a crazy twenty years it’s been including a bad owner selling our ground from under us leaving us homeless for two seasons and forced to spend years at a ground not fit for a U14 team

Hell, we even have batucadas (a sort of carnival as in Rio's) on the throats of the stadium (the throats are a place where sound gets amplified, it's like a 6 stories high building for cheering, we have 4 of those and they sound amazing). Oh and for those people who don't get it, when I say "my team" I'm not saying "the team I cheer for" nor "the team I like", it's our team, there is no owner, we are the owners the club has members and there are about 100.000 paid memberships which grant you votes in the club government, we have president, gabinet, elections, etc. It's a truly democratic process (more than I can say for any actual government) so it is our team, it cannot change colors, names, mascot, etc. without the fans consent, eat your hearts out Muh'ricans.

Its interesting man, that point ov view from an US person. I am from Brazil, American football has grown a lot here, as well as basketball. I would say you guys are more at a cerebral level, with numbers, blocks, stats etc. The cheer is usually all organized and stuff. But from Euro and mainly south America (Brazil and Argentina mainly) we have less numbers and care for it (like ball possesion is important) but if a basketball game ends 13-5 its an imense flop. But a 0-0 soccer game can easily be one of the best matches of your team and also be a 4-0 (really high score) with a chill just for fun game. To sum up, "soccer" has people fallen in crazy love, like hardcore stuff. I will tell you this though- being at a full stadium on a important match, is one of the best, most life changing experiences you will ever have. the energy is uncomparable. Having your team team winning a championshig at home... Bro... Its a whole other dimension of family.

The pyros are now banned in the stadium. If they appear there, the club will be punished. The European leagues are not closed. The clubs go up and down the leagues. That increases the pressure and the passion. The warlike impression is not misleading. In the Middle Ages, cities and regions fought each other. There are courts today, but the hostilities are still there. Footballfield has replaced the battlefield. But they are still fought outside the stadium in fistfights. These fighters are called hooligans. Of course the police try to prevent this, but they don't always succeed. Europe was and is a continent of wars. Nevertheless, the streets are safer than in the USA because the conflicts are ritualized.

In the UK, one of the fiercest football rivalries is between Manchester United and Liverpool. The rivalry between the cities started because workers in Manchester refused to work with cotton that came from slave plantations, while Liverpool accepted it. Liverpool said slave cotton was all they would get, because Liverpool is a port city, and Manchester is inland. Manchester ended up building a fifty mile canal system all the way to the coast so it could maintain industry without engaging in the slave trade. Karl Marx theorised communism from studying workers in Manchester, and the British suffragette movement started here as well. Manchester has always been at the front of social progress, and is always on the right side of history.

They once tried to make a halftime show during the cup final in Germany, by a popular singer here. She got booed the entire 15 minutes, they never did it again.

It doesn't bring down our buildings. Not like in the US where a small wind blows down a whole city that is build with wood. :) Do not take me too serious. :)

Stadiums are adapted to such mass movements and they have really strong structural integrity, yet, there have been some tragic incidents in older / bad quality stadiums.

When you talk about "dangerous" I remember one of the most dangerous country to see a game on the stadium a few years ago it was the Hooligans fans in United Kingdom 🇬🇧. The government had to ban them from the stadiums, because they do everything least watch the game

If you want to go with your kid you buy seats in the family corner, away from hard core fans (fan clubs are seated in a designated area). In between should be „non-designated“/general seats. Maybe just avoid games where they play a rival/team your club hates as a first outing.

US sport is so diluted and commercialised, South American and European football is built on a bedrock of community and passion. There's no contest, the noise, the flares, the chants, can't beat it.
