Nope, had my SteelSeries mat for 2 years now with no fraying and im on the PC for 8+ hours a day.

​@@2amProFilmsThis is the only pad I've consistently heard people say this about. But in general OP is correct. I have never had a non stitched edge last more than a year or so. Honestly my most recent desk pad was 8 dollars with stitches edges like 4 years ago. Stitched edges have held up great, and the only reason I'm replacing it is because it's starting to lose color in spots and the foam is a little indented where my keyboard sits. I was a little taken aback by how expensive a good desk pad is. Never had a single complaint with mine and I don't even know if it had a brand name.

@thefilthelement either way, there's no such thing as a best overall deskmat. only a best deskmat that suits your preference. looking at glide as a bench for rating isn't even reliable. proper benchmarks would be the control/speed in which are the deciding factors when purchasing a mousepad. if you're looking for highest glide? mouse with skates and glasspad.

I Guess a too smooth one will make your stop less stable while a too rough one will make your mouse movement too choppy. I still think these are all good viable mousepad and the difference Will be minimal

my friend got the axe mat he is stupid because i am a pro video gamer and he decided to not to take my advice and buy a fucking ZOWIE G-SR-SE Rouge and instead take the advice of kova tech a guy that sound as if his wife left him last week

Why do I need a desk mat? My mouse works fine without it. I do not understand.

longevity wise you should have a desk mat unless you want your mouse to not glide well for a long time

It's mostly to protect your table surface. Without it, the surface gets damaged over time.
