The guitar that's right for you is the guitar that makes you want to pick up and play. There are no boxes with certain guitars only being used for certain genres. If you love metal but like the feel of a jazzy guitar the most, then get that one. If you want to play blues but a metal V shape guitar is most comfortable for you then get that. Realistically you can play any genre on any instrument. The right guitar is the one that feels the best for you, not the one you think should get for a certain genre

Playing-wise he’s good... instrument selection-wise for this video and some of the comments regarding the technical nature of the instruments are just bad. On the first point, if you’re going to do a “main types of electric guitars” video I’m sorry but you can’t pick a 335 over a Les Paul. 335s are great and arguably more flexible than a Les Paul and many people prefer them but they’re simply far more niche in terms of quantities sold than a Les Paul and that’s what this video is supposed to be about. A 4-way video with Tele, Strat, Les Paul and 335 would have been defensible... a 3-way HAS to be Tele, Strat and Les Paul... a 3-way with what this video is meant to be about cannot be defended without one of the guitars being a Les Paul. It’s as simple as that. On the technical/constructional comments my favourite screw-up comment was that the hollow sections of the 335 are there to contribute to sustain, which is totally the opposite of the reality. Solid body guitars were literally invented to enhance sustain, especially at volume... and before anyone says anything, feedback, which the hollow sections to contribute to creating, is NOT the same as sustain. He did also demonstrated the Clapton “woman tone” on the bridge pickup when it’s widely acknowledged that it’s a neck humbucker pickup sound. 🤦🏼‍♂️

I got my electric guitar for free from my cousin, but's it's hella broken. some of the pick ups don't work. I'm still thankful for it though. I'm sure there are a lot of affordable guitars online, but squier is the first one that comes to mind for me. I recently got back into guitar after quitting. Generally speaking, the Tele is the best if you play many types of music and only have one guitar. I like the Strat for Blues, and a Les Paul or SG for hard rock . The semi hollow body would round out my dream collection for R+B /Jazz. With Harley Benton, AIO, Wolf guitars and others these days, you can afford a second or third axe. I bought a HB TE-52na for $160 and it plays great and stays in tune! With minor upgrades, these guitars are actually ok to gig with. I don’t think you necessarily need a Gibson or Fender anymore.

  • @j_freed

You could do the Nashville Mod Tele which essentially adds an extra middle pickup for clucky Strat sounds, and usually blending pot wiring for more diversity. Session players like these since they cover so much in one guitar. If somebody were ordering a Warmoth kit, the contoured Tele body would be a smart upgrade. But you can get used to the blockiness of the traditional Leo design. It's beautifully ugly.

For buyers/players outside the USA, US brands like Fender and Gibson are ridiculously overpriced due price gouging and the USD exchange rate, and their Squier and Epiphone segments still out price but more importantly, outclassed by contemporary brands from Asia like Ibanez, Yamaha, Cort and though now to a less significant degree, Harley Benton before impost of the 'COVID levy' on international shipping COVID levy to ROW effectively killed the value incentive of its direct etail sales model vs buying other Asian origin brands locally. My 'Tele' is a Cort Manson Stage Series Classic TC, my 'Strat' is a Yamaha Pacifica 612VIIFM, my 'Les Paul' is a Harley Benton SC Custom, and my 'ES-335' is an Ibanez AS93FM. You didn’t mention scale length. I don’t have the biggest of hands - about average - and I’m preferring Gibson-Style & Fender Mustang Guitars because it’s easier to stretch to hit notes on those guitars. Gibson guitars are 24.75”, whereas Fender Tele & Strat are 25.5” - makes a huge difference when playing. Also - Fender Mustang is even shorter at 24” - really fun to play. PRS is in between Fender and Gibson’s at 25”.

3 Card Monty . I agree. Also, the longer scale length of the Fenders contributes to a brighter sound (one reason they are favored in country music to achieve the desired twang). Gibsons generally have a mellower tone because of the shorter scale. Granted, choice of strings, effects and obviously talent matter greatly but scale length should not be overlooked.

I'm always going to be partial to the fender mustang. The darker sounding single coils have a magic tone for me.

9:38 .... ... Does anyone know this song? ... it's been sung by a girl, I have heard it only one time in the radio many many years ago.... .... .. meanwhile found it out: these chords so strongly remind me of Minnie Riperton's "loving you".. a tune popping out of a different life, ... a better time?
