***UPDATE TO THE UPDATE*** So ST17 came out and it flippin slaps. I have a more detailed update about it on the community tab but in summary it's the best "starter" product by a substantial margin. It's powerful out of the box, simple to use, and has a very strong upgrade path. If you have the means, I highly recommend grabbing 2 copies. If you're still a bit on the fence and don't want to commit so much money, ST16 is my second place pick.

Competitive Yu-Gi-Oh Player here. Seen just barely enough Digimon content to know the barest of core concepts of the TCG, but this video was awesome! The content was well delivered and provided very good insight into the most important parts when picking up a deck, especially when transitioning between games or freshly learning. Even at 15 minutes this was a breeze to watch and enjoyed it all. Hope to see more content from you!

A few additional notes to each deck for those interested: -You can actually build Gallantmon in a mono-red way, which will prioritize its DP deletion effects; or in a red-purple way which will prioritize milling and really big swings to security, as well as a direct counter to other purple decks (the purple side also makes use of ChaosGallantmon and Megidramon, for those interested in flavour) -Ulforce will always play second fiddle to Imperialdramon, unfortunately. It will never get that much support. -Contrary to Ulforce, Imperial is extremely popular and its BT12 support is actually the 4th wave. This one is a sure bet for the future. There's also a BlackImperialdramon deck, but it's completely unrelated to the main one. -Mastemon usually gets indirect support as long as yellow and purple angel/demon cards get released. Some people go as far as to consider it an evergreen deck, tho I'm more of the opinion that Machinedramon is the only deck that has truly earned that title. -Jesmon has currently a card on the banlist, it's unknown when it will come out, if ever. It also started getting paired with Gankoomon as the Starter, and you can actually build a more defensive variant of Jesmon GX focusing more on Gankoo. -Ragna is indeed a lost cause, but a very fun deck regardless. As for future support... There's Armamon...? Maybe Bandaid will take its alzheimer medication and remember him one day. Even if that happens, he may not even be Ragna support and instead end up as part of a Barbamon combo (which we also don't have yet, funnily enough). Also, the next scheduled Starter will be the Beelzemon one, but that one actually follows a different rule, so I recommend anyone interested to look it up, just remember that building a fully upgraded Beelzemon deck is very expensive. If you come from Yugioh, Beelzemon is kinda the HERO deck of DCG if you catch my drift.

As far as BT12 is concerned I've seen a lot more Ulforce than Imperial. The BT11 stuff Ulforce got makes it pretty competitive. If you're going to assign a Yu-Gi-Oh! alias to Beelze it'd 100% be the Lightsworn of DCG.

As someone who got into the game a few weeks ago and built the Beelzemon deck, i bought the starter deck once for 30€, then everything else for 50€ from a fellow player + the 2 Beelzemon X Antibody from cardmarket for 10€ , and it's ready.Overall, 95€ total shipping included. I wouldn't call that very expensive compared to other TCGs , tbh.

This game just needs more current starter decks. I got into this game late last year and picked up Imperial, Mastamon, jesmon, and Ragnaloardmon. Now my nephew is playing but the only new starter is beezel and he doesnt want that. So he cant play until another 2-4 starter decks come out to choose from…. Which will be in 6+ months???

Hi guys, I was wrong! Here is a quick update post, mostly dealing with how good these decks ended up being. We are now solidly in the middle of the BT12 format so we have data to show how well these decks perform. Mastemon unfortunately never really took off, even in BT11. I have to move it down to D. Needs more support to become relevant again. Imperial didn't fare too well either. Might be better than Mastemon but still not meta. C/D. New support was decent but didn't make as much of an impact as I thought. As for the others, Ulforce is right on the cusp of the meta. A solid deck but not a top pick. B. Very strong in Ultimate Cup (single color deck format). Gallantmon is always getting new support. It's not particularly meta relevant right now but is pretty good in Ultimate Cup. C? Jesmon gets support in BT13 but nothing major so I don't really expect to see it being played a ton, will hold off on rating it for now. Ragna has nothing and is basically totally irrelevant by now. F. Will update again in BT13.

I started this game early last year with 2 copies of the Imperialdramon deck. I personally think that deck is the best start. It has a straight forward strategy (paildramon rush, defend with Mega Death), isn't TOO expensive to upgrade (plenty of budget options that make it semi competitive) and as you mentioned is getting ridiculous support in the future. Anyway, that's my 2 cents. Nice video.

Man, I really went in deep for investing into Ragnaloardmon… but man, I just love the sheer gas of it. I’ve always had this weird experience with TCGs due to gravitating to the dumb high roll decks that occasionally kill you before your opponent, but it’s just too gratifying climbing out of nowhere into an immediate and sometimes game-ending field presence that literally makes the struggle worth it all- to me, at least. That being said if I put aside my Stockholm’ed insanity, I can honestly agree on the recommendations that you put forward for the starters as entry products to the TCG. After watching this, I’m probably grabbing a one-off Jesmon starter to matchup against the one-off Imperialdramon and Mastemon starters to teach my Yugioh friends. I think the variance between the aggro, tool-box, and control decks would allow people to find their favorites. Overall, great video, and consider me a new subscriber!

I think its a pretty good and cheap deck to build for anyone looking to get into the game. Its pretty fun and you can upgrade it for not too much money (if you plan on buying deathxmon or not, I chose not to buy any). X antibody, and starmons are not expensive and can be picked up for cheap. The core of the deck looks to be really cheap on tcgplayer to build.

@Digivolution Enjoyer mainly around Acient dragon. It's a pretty simple deck, with a lot of value, you just need to figure out the like 3 key plays for it. I'd personally even recommend it over Jesmon, because while Jesmon is powerful, it's a much more fiddly deck that just never seems to run right for me. But I also started with Ancient Dragon and have had terrible results with Jesmon so I'm pretty biased.

The reason I got into the TCG is because I like Digimon, not really because I expect to be playing a lot of competitive games. And when I saw that RagnaLoardmon contained some of my favourite Digimon, I knew that that would influence how much fun I will have playing, as I probably won't buy a lot of additional cards. It came as I expected, I made an uneducated decision. But I'm still sticking to it. It's about the fun for me after all.

Really cool video idea. I see you only have one video, unless you torched your history. You will probably get better videos in the future. As someone who doesn't know anything about the decks, if you would have highlighted the one you were talking about it would have made it easier. I had to study the boxes figure out what which you were talking about.. A lot of that information was wasted about upgrades because well a person wanting to know about best starters probably doesn't know what any of the cards do anyway. I'm not sure if your retention shows people skipping through the upgrades/tournament sections. Good luck making future videos.

When I saw that Ragna was getting a structure deck, that was like straight adrenaline. I could take all the prior cards that came and use it as support to itself- while I can agree that the gambling mechanic is a bit wackadoo for new players, or at least I suppose? Personal experience aside honestly and there are better options for beginners, of which I would vouch for the Imperialdramon and Mastemon ones without question- at my locals those were the picks from the other players. However I can't deny that playing Ragna's structure just feels fun despite it's built in gamble on top decking into something beneath a playcost of 7 and being a Legend-Arms. With how the deck is stacked anyhow, you could go through the deck casually and not have to worry much about getting to Ragna immediately, 24 of the cards in the deck wouldn't really work to the effect from a rookie hard play. It just takes more patience, seeing Ragna pop up in starting hand is great and seeing him in security is funny for when it's a well timed check- or just the luck of it- but what I love about the deck is that from the original cards, the newer ones gave them some much needed TLC- Durandamon and BryweLudramon having their own ability to stand by themselves now is AWESOME- Durandamon being a pretty nice attacking digimon and BryweLudra being solid in it's ability to avoid deletion. I'd go against it for newer players because there are better options but DAMN if it ain't awesome to see it going in motion!!

Ngl, I like Ragnamon's starter deck...with Izzy in it. I repeat. With Izzy in it. Because he gives nice memory and knowledge over what's coming up, which helps loads in terms of trying to pop the rookie effect off for the free play. Not even mentioning when going for some big brain on play effect strats to cycle out the cards. I feel that the deck does suffer on card draw though; although, I feel a 1 of metalgreymon bt12 might be able to bring the deck around. Frankly, I only really use the ragnaloardmon in decks where I need a nice finisher card in case a game's taking a bit too long or I don't have a nice upgrade path up from my bossmon (I actually been tempted to play him in Hina decks. Though that deck has gamble to 11, honestly worse than Ragnaloardmon in terms of praying your pieces come out since you have to pray a Hina gets in your hand. It's awful.

Honestly? So I got into the game last week or so, and I wanted to approach Digimon in a way that I hadn't in any other TCG. I went for what I enjoyed, and not what was "great". One thing I love about Digimon, is that damn near everything is viable, with the right build, the right strategy, and the right play. I personally got the Venomous Violet starter, and the Mastemon starter. While I agree that the Mastemon starter has more upgradeability to it ... That purple swarm and boom boom deck is just so much fun to play. One of my favourite Digimon has always been VenomMyotismon, and I like the fact that while colour-combos came into effect, it didn't completely eradicate the old themes either. This isn't a game like Yu-Gi-Oh! where one meta controls absolutely everything, so you do get a lot more play-options when it comes to doing what you enjoy. I agree with the video for the most part, though with one caveat. Your ranking is stellar, but it's fair to say that any of these decks are good, if that's the style of gameplay someone wants to go with. I admit that Blue may trump purple in certain regards, but because Blue is just not my playstyle? It'll never be that good for me. Again, take what I say with a grain of salt, because I am a beginner in this game. Yu-Gi-Oh! was always my thing, and I'd frequently attend YCS for it. This game is just so very refreshing because of the freedom it offers. THAT BEING SAID. Love the video, and if you're someone that is incredibly knowledgeable about the game? I'd love some help with my VenomMyotismon build.

I really wanted to like the Mastemon deck but i feel it doesn't move nearly as well as the others I went to a begginers tournament back in november with a slightly modified Mastemon starter and a friend went with a Slightly modified Jesmon started, I ended up last and he ended up 2nd lol I could not for the life of me get any good draw, so since that mastemon deck was borrowed I ended up buying th UlforceVeedramon one, I still don't win sh*t but now I feel is my fault not the deck's lol

I started playing the Digimon TCG last year after one of my college friends basically forced me to play with them lol. I ended up getting the Mastemon starter deck to try and learn how to play and it did not go well. They basically destroyed me with their BlackWarGreymon deck called me a noob and didn't teach me shit. After going online and watching deck building videos and tournaments I basically taught myself how to play and it's actually really fun! I play 4 Great Dragons and Examon as of right now and yes, I kicked he's ass for not teaching me properly lol

One aspect that I think sometimes gets glossed over is booster packs. Some people do like to pull from packs to help build their decks, even if it's inefficient. In that respect, I think this is the one major weakness of Jesmon. To upgrade Jesmon, the biggest upgrades come from bt6 and bt10. Bt10 is fine, but bt6 is just not a very good pack to be pulling from. There aren't very many good or even fun strategies in it, and it's just generally old and irrelevant. Pulling your upgrades isn't even easy - there's a sealed-only series where the guy started with Jesmon and just gets dismal bt6 pulls, it's not very fun. And the nature of the deck means you can't really slot random stuff in that you pull. To contrast, I think this is where Gallant is king. You can pull from multiple recent sets, with low-rarity upgrades making each pack feel good, and each pack having varied, fun, and even meta archetypes in them. Bt9, ex2, ex3. You can even take the deck in multiple different directions. It's also true of Imperial to a far lesser extent. The deck notably has a very flexible bottom end, so you could theoretically open just about anything, although the obvious bt8s are just solid packs. Even if you don't support pack-pulling, trading is one major aspect of the game, especially in more remote regions ehere singles are rarer and more expensive. And you're way more likely to find help among your local groups for commons and uncommons from a wide array of recent packs, instead of hoping someone somehow has spare bt6 cards they aren't using.

Most ironc Thing is ragnalordmon is better in dragon linkz. Because dragon linkz focuse on control and stun so they can easily get two level 6s out for Ragna. And Ragna can then be a blitz omegamon for game

Which starter deck should I buy? Well, they released one with Gallantmon on the cover, and that's my favorite Digimon, so the choice was made for me. No, but seriously, I did mostly watch this to get a vibe on how "good" the Gallantmon deck is and what the other options were. I appreciate the honest nature and I'm glad Gallantmon got a pretty good Upgrade score. Maybe I can do a little something with it.

I'll always recommend playing what you like over playing what's good, unless you're looking to compete at a high level. If you can, wait for BT12 to come out before you buy singles so you don't waste money on cards that aren't used anymore.

I dont really understand why you talk about the match up between these specific decks, instead of the actual meta decks. The only time this would be relevant if you decide to buy one of each and play against each other with a friend. That aside great Video very informative and easy to understand. Thumbs Up.

The real crime is the st8 veedramon doesn't have memory +1 as his inherited. Every inherited affect matches on the main line Digimon in st7 and st8 except the lvl 4s. Sure you could argue it's bc hammer spark but fck that card. I took all 4 out for 4 great maelstrom. Hammer spark sucks in security

Just want to add digimon starter decks aren't good value compared to buying singles. Unlike other card games S-tier decks can be built extremely cheaply. Your main issue is card availability. Often times you will need to buy from individuals and only needing a few bulk items can be detrimental. It maybe easier to go to east or a digimon meta site and just give someone a list and $100
