They didn't point out it was Koreans own broadcasting stations that was keeping small companies like Bighit back then away from being broadcast. Cutting their performance and not including them in variety shows unless they come from the big 3. Bang PD had no choice but to reach an audience through KZread. Now that they've surpassed the big 3 it's just sweet karma how broadcasting stations now are trying hard to invite BTS back to their stations again.

Ofcourse it's not just purely through social media.. But from the beginning, bts started to gather international fans with the use of social media and youtube, in their pre-debut, they already have fans waiting for them since they promote themselves through social media, maybe that's what they meant. Being smart by using social medias and youtube to promote bts, youtube with their blogs, and behind the clips that enables fans to see their personality, and bts is active in communicating with fans through social media, for me that's what they meant. I think bts being caring for fans as they always try to communicate with us (especially during early debut, they literally reply back in twitter).. Well, in my case I became a fan after some video about their success, I actually started of liking the artist themselves and not the music first. (i'm not that into kpop before, Id even understand why people lile them before, well I'm glad I understand, and bts was my first fave group, just sharing)

The choice of using social media also related to bts situation back then. They were underrated group coming from small company. It's not easy to appear in tv anyway. At that time they use social media solely to interact with their fan. From my observation, they didn't seem to expect to hit any popularity. It was the only choice back then as tv channel only give opportunities to group coming from big company.

Some K-Media tends to brush out out BTS achievement by stating this social media point. The thing they missed out is social media is only a platform/ tools to communicate. The important thing is the content and messaging. It's all about 7 members in bts that actually attract people to follow them. It's their own talent, personalities and individualities that put today outcome.

RM himself talked about the chance they have to be born in social media era. So about your question, there is two reasons: - Decide not to use them - Use them but poorly Other Kpop groups didn't use social media as much and/or as well as Big Hit and BTS has done (looot of interesting content such as behind the scenes, vlog, blog and all)

@@esilenna8716 Here is the thing, of course social media is the door to them. But social media would not let me stay. I've seen multitude stuff and people on social media. But I also left after a short while, because they didn't offer enough for me. After I got to know BTS I listened to many more Kpop out of curiousity, but only a few I really liked, most of them are treated like one hit wonders by me, I occasionally like one song, but I don't grow into them. Not to say that the idols don't have talent, because many obviously do, but I think that BH has really good producers and their songs and lyrics stand out more to me personally. Same with shows and variety, many groups do them, but overall BTS personalities and especially their group dynamic shines through for me. That's why I didn't left and I wanna stay here for very much longer, because as artists and people that have never let me down so far and I have big faith in them. I'm 45 y old and for a loooooong time no artist has touched me like they did. Not even my own boyband in my youth.

But to say that they become popular because of social media.. it’s not like the other kpop idols didn’t have access to the same social media as bts

Whereas hobi had a stronger background in hip hop and freestyle coz he was a Street dancer , that is mainly what bts did in their choreos since the beginning , that is the reason why their choreographer picked hobi as best. I don't mean to say that jiminie is bad but was initially less experienced. He is incredible too specially because he fuses the elements of different dance forms to bring a more impactful performance.

Very interesting point of view about BTS but exscuse me I don't think that their popularity is caused only from social media... I am a 7month army from Greece and my meeting with them started from Spotify. When I put some of their songs to my playlist I started to search about them... and thanks to You tube I saw how talented, hard working and beautiful personalities are. And their beat, their lyrics, the choreography, the different style of genres. I believe that BTS is a category of their own!!!!! So it's not only the social media effect... do not annihilate all the hard work they have done all this time ... They don't deserve it.

I heard INU while shopping at a mall, and that song stayed in my playlist for almost a year. I don’t even know their face that time, it’s just pure music that attracts me, they have very good musics.

Their success is not because social media, they have success for the quality of their music, lyrics, their talent and their personalities plus the effort and hard work of them and their team. being successful just because you use social media is such a shallow reason. that's not why armys stanned bts. it's because of their sincerity, passion, good music and personality. they didn't just become popular but they became artists with the biggest fandom. and it doesn't take such a shallow reason like "using social media"(which everybody does) for someone to become a dedicated and passionate fan of an artist.

BtS didn't have that so they use social media aka KZread , twitter, etc but the most prominent specially at that time was KZread.

I wasn't even planning to stan them but i did because i fell in love with everything about them.

I don't think so someone can became an instant fan bc of social media.I stan BTS because their music/songs helps me to stand up and motivates me.

I only discovered them 2 years ago. Now i'm a 66 year old die hard ARMY. Seriously, their music is way above average.

As an international army i would love to point out the main reason i stan them is not social media. I accidentally come through N.O once when i'm searching for some new music and decided i love their style and decided to dig more about them. I gave all of their songs a try (it was early 2015) and i just love everything and decided to become an army. It took me exactly 7 months to find out that they were actually active on twitter during that time so i decided to make myself a twitter account. Also, they are not that active on social media nowadays so i believe social media is not the main factor. It's more like their music is the one that makes all army around the world to gather on social media. Not the other way around. Not to mention that they had no chance back then. They keep being cut off from broadcasting, and the only way they can communicate with fans was through social media.

I'm thinking of that where were all those praises for BTS songs such as DOPE, I NEED YOU, back then, they are the same songs nothing has changed. Back then even if BTS had the best songs, no one admitted that, just because they were from a small company, they cut their performances, they made them go through a tough time, they accused them with hundred things, they didn't want them in the TV shows, but now everything has changed. Everyone is trying so hard to invite them to their shows, but it's not that easy, KARMA IS AN ARMY. For the reaction videos to 쩔어, the editors ignored all the male reactors?? There are so many BTS reactors who are male! Obviously this video would be different if created by someone without preconceived ideas. I don't mean offense.

After reading a lot of comments, I have to say one thing - why people feel attacked when they say BTS has reached international audiences with social media? I mean, it's not wrong. Do people forget that KZread is also a type of social media, not only instagram or twitter? They are not saying BTS songs aren't good, they are saying people from other countries heard about BTS through social media, it could be by solely watching their mv, It doens't need to mean that they watched the personal content or run episodes prior to their music!!!! I am an international army that only got to know BTS through youtube. I watched a few mv's and from that I wanted to know who they were, and then I just fell in love with their personalities and their message.

Till BTS, i haven't seen personal and backstage content from other groups, i'm talking about 2010-2012, and the vlogging wasn't a thing back then... my opinion is that the message that BTS deliver, makes the difference, they are speaking about their struggles, about being accepted as how u are ( which most of us have this issue, me included), having love problems... and can't recall other groups singing about this.

Every other groups and singers have their own music video too but we don't see anyone being close to be as big as them. Other idols and singers are on social media too,, but they don't come as succesful as them. So the only answer left is they are genuine to their passion for music which lead us to understand about their endearing personality. It's not a "Thanks to social media" thing. If it's about social media then everyone would have atleast 1M pre-order when they do a comeback or release new content.

Everyone is talking about heights but that's actually Bang PD's goal of making his BTS known all over the world. For BTS, it's not just one member wanting to be the best he can be and be more. All 7 members share that passion to be well known worldwide, so they have to try as hard as they can and polish every move in every routine. When they practice just as hard, they did it as if it's end of the world. So much that fog covers the entire mirror and they were still not done. They didn't slack off nor give a sloppy performance when it's just practice. They're totally serious with it as a team. When it's time to perform, it goes to show that they put out more than 100% than they gave off during practices. Plus add Bang PD's faith and commitment with them, BTS has become unreachable now. They're legends of the current era. MJ paved the way for pop artists first. But sad to say that during his time, hardly an Asian pop artist makes it to the U.S Billboard. But then years later, BTS made it. They did it and paved way for more Asian artists to come. KPop is now well known worldwide because of them. BTS are the pioneers of making KPop well known worldwide and social media played as one of the significant factors of that success. But to say social media? Alone? I completely disagree to this, because while social media was chosen by Bang PD-nim to market his band, what he actually never realized was that while doing so, many Worldwide Armies have already passed on the discovery to others through just their music, others hearing them for the first time on the radio, others seeing them for the first time on TV (not just korean stations but also Billboard Awards, Grammys, GMA, James Corden, etc.) Others in youtube, twitter, or just coming across Google/Yahoo news. Newspapers, magazines. Others even just through word of mouth and the news passed on to other groups of people. It just came together. So it's best to say that apart from social media, there are avenues that made BTS known and it's thanks to the people, internet, radio, and television. 😎

Pleaseee, ARMYs became ARMYs because of BTS' sincerity. No matter how good you are with SNS, if you aren't sincere, people aren't gonna idolize you like that. It is very true that BANG PD is a Genius. Superb choreographer, the Staff have worked hard. However, the fact of having selected precisely these 7 wonderful young people, facilitated and provided the necessary synergy for all the success that BTS is reaping. These 7 young people are great too and they planted passion, talent, willingness, sincerity towards their fans, ARMYS, in each project. God arranged that all the pieces form the wonderful magic that is BTS.

Okay thanks for the info but I'm really done listening to everyone saying BTS reached global success duw to their use of social media. Tell me ARMY who here stanned BTS because of TWITTER? As for me. I always knew of them. An army introduced me to them. I saw their music video. Got drawn into it because it was unlike anything ive seen. It was like Art. When visuals and music and meaning came together. It is only after that I got curious and got into everything else. Let's give BTS the credit they deserve. It isn't just ARMY interactions that makes us love them. They are very talented. It is a cherry on top that they choose to be sincere and communicate freely with us.

Like seriously I didn't even have twitter to know about them . I installed twitter later after becoming army just to follow them. Also they don't even have insta account of their own unlike other artists This is so stupid to say that they are famous bcoz of social media when they only put their updates only on twitter and that to in a single account 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️💜💜

I was one of them but frankly it made me think of how shitty i was as a person because I had no idea what I was judging without even seeing anything. So when I actually listened to them I felt like I need to be a better human being. Truly. There are many things that helped making our bond with band stronger and it is NOT just social media.

The thing is that many also can't accept the fact that BTS aren't just famous because of SNS, visuals or whatever but because of their (MESSAGES IN THEIR) MUSIC, TALENT, HARD WORK, their PERSONALITIES etc. In addition to that, even if media knew of BTS' hardships and struggles they face(d) (K- and western) media wouldn't admit that they were the reason for most of the problems like for example hate since day minus one and until now they are still treated unfairly. BTS outsold and outcharted others and still aren't nominated in the categories they should have been nominated in not to mention that they would actually have the potential to win those awards. So, Award shows etc are basically ignoring them until Armys get loud and fight back with FACTS and EVIDENCE. So, I totally agree that people should hire Armys to give correct input. (But as I pointed out it seems like they DON'T WANT to provide correct and complete* information about BTS' journey because media would get exposed) *of course they can't include every single detail but you know what I mean

RM, Jhope, Suga...all genius in making music..with their big boss Bang Pd..the big revelation here is how Bang Pd made a marketing strategy that BTS paved the way to the top..Bang is a great boss here..through a give and take process and freedom of choice..their relationship has no barriers as boss and employee..so awesome..

it's absurd to say it was mainly thru sns bc BTS made it to the bb charts early on in 2014 or 15 which was lucks play basically (obvi the album that topped at no. 5 was amazing but it was rare for a 1 year old kpop bg to enter the BB chart) and by 2015-16 before wings era they were well known in SK and eventually, internationally after their wings tour which further contributed to their presence at the AMAs and BBMAs in 2017 in conclusion it's all bc of BHs promotion and BH BTS and ARMYs hard work

One of the hosts mentioning that social media was one of the factors that made Bangtan famous is true. That is a fact and they didn't imply it was the main factor but as ONE of the factors. However, I find it very misleading that as if they are implying that Bang PD-nim planned this even way before, that using social media was something planned. In reality, they never explicitly planned it. As some of the comments here said, Bighit was a small company at that time with limited power to be able to promote their group on broadcasting stations. As a course of action, they filmed behind the scenes clips of their daily lives through Bangtan bombs uploaded on their youtube channel. Take note that during this time, not a lot of idol groups have free and accessible behind the scenes contents. They were just provided the freedom to show their self, as also shown with the members having a Twitter account.

Every kpop idol has access to social media they were not debuted on stone age and also most of their members are very handsome. i see some armys disagree to the fact that bts success is partly because of social media, ngl that is true. they showed their personality trough social media which is why many armys felt the sense of close, friendliness with them+ their songs that are extemely meaningful. so yes social media did play a quite good part for our boys, due to the fact that other companies where blocking/hack them to not being broadcast in SK

I agree.. But, I think the reason why they've said that sns plays a big part is because of the beginning of career of bts(they kust have consider it crucial), as you've said they couldn't broadcast in sk, so the way for fans to reach them out better is only through sns, and other platforms, that made it possible for them to communicate. It would have been better if the person(in the vid) elaborate the sns part. Since, bts music is sooo good, and their performance is amazing, and so their personality..

They do only with bts.And they do it every single time. That's what make me mad.
