Hope this is helpful! What kind of bass do you play? Also you don't need to buy all three types of basses I mention in the video! In a mix with other instruments, the differences between basses becomes pretty small, so buy the best one you can afford and work on making it sound as good as possible and then you'll sound great on all basses! Also be a bit cautious with cheap active basses as they can sound a bit nasty. Big Love.

I like your channel. Years ago (many), I wS a working pro. My p bass was a workhorse. Too heavy, but the sound and sustain.... These days I use a 7/8 scale J bass copy. The old P is retired, and not for sale at any price. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for explaining this. Was just able to get a bass, and it's definitely not any of these which, with me being a beginner, is totally fine with me. Dean Edge 09 in case anyone is curious.

Very descriptive! I play many generes includying disco, so my next bass is probably going to be either a jazz bass (70's vibe from Fender/Squier looks gorgeous) or maybe some active one like Edward's

Which bass to buy? Well, if you are lucky enough, as many as possible. You covered most of the usual needs here so nice job. I have a P and an active bass, but also a Ricky 4001 which is quite distinct in itself. Especially with a pick. I love the Ricky sound and you can shape it quite a bit, especially if you are prepared to change the strings out too.

I just purchased my first bass about 3 weeks ago, I found a 60th anniversary fender jazz bass (MIM) barely used mint condition, also came with a hard case, a second pick guard, strap and I really love it. Sounds and plays much better than the Squier jazz bass I borrowed from a friend that didn't play bass anymore

I wanted a Jazz bass to get closer to Geddy Lee type tone. I stepped away from active basses cause i just started and wanted to just plug and play. May get one in the future, but I'm very new at playing bass

IMO, you can’t go wrong with the cort pj bass. Build quality wise it’s as good if not better than the American fenders I’ve played(all the corts I’ve tried have been incredibly well built). It can play almost anything and it’s got 24 frets! The electronics aren’t going to blow you away at this price point but you can always switch them out later, they sound great but for certain types of funk you might want to swap out the neck pickup. At $200 it’s hands down the most value for money musical instrument I’ve ever played.

Thanks for posting Ian. I've never played a Cort, but I'll see if I can get my hands on one.

Here are a couple of tips Check for bowed neck ( truss rod issues ) run away as fast as you can Check for cracks and gaps where the neck meets the body Check for rust on the hardware ( tuning keys bride knobs) Plug it in and listen for cracking or popping sounds while turning the knobs Good luck. And check new and used prices of the same bass online if possible

@@takareon you can also check online reviews but ultimately the choice to buy or not is up to you but online reviews sometimes point out issues in electronics and build quality of a specific model. You're welcome

That's not a P bass, the extra hole for that extra J pup destroy the resonance and the extra wiring adds hiss to the electronics. PJ's are always worse than just a P.

@El Novice Bassist thanks for the advice. Right now I have 2 passive bass, both 4 strings. A long scale fender jazz with round strings and a Ibanez short scale with flat strings. Both are quite muddy even with a pic. Looking at getting a Jackson 5 string active.

@El Novice Bassist Thanks so much for your advice! This is the Jackson Bass I ordered: www.jacksonguitars.com/gear/basses/js-series-concert-bass-js3v/2919021527 Also got strings in case the stock strings are lame. A friend of mine is a bassist in a Metal band and recommends these: www.daddario.com/products/guitar/bass-guitar/nyxl-bass/nyxl45130-set-long-scale-regular-light-5-string-45-130/

@El Novice Bassist Thanks. I’m skeptical of the nickel strings, always did stainless. Was under the impression that nickel strings aren’t as sharp and more muddy.

Never saw a bass player walk on stage with only a pickup in their hands. There are other components that contribute to the sound. So why not take an extra 5 seconds and identify the basses make/model your playing for your audience? Geez.
