Which Anchor? and WHY? ULTRA-MARINE

Why ULTRAMARINE are ahead of the anchor game, we interviewed them this year at The BOOT Dusseldorf Boat Show 2024 so we can show you guys why they are our number one choice for our Sailboat.

As we all know here, we sailers are a little reluctant to change, you know, if it works, don't change it. In my case, my first anchor was a Bruce that didn't work very well, then I switched to a Delta and the matter was worse, and finally I opted for the "French" Spade and now I can sleep peacefully in any circumstance, but I firmly believe that this new generation of anchors can easily prove that they are better. What do you think? Do we give them a chance?

By the way, my secondary anchor is Danforth used just two times in tandem format during a storm. And at that moment I felt that the sailboat was welded to the seabed.. 😂

@@marcoquiros1393 we had a spade, smaller and lighter, she did not sit at the first attempt, nor hold really happy we invested in chain and anchor, Ultramarine does deliver what they promise. We also carry 2 spare Danforth anchors to make a daisy chain setup like you describe.

I believe you, I am sure that it is worth every shilling and that the anchor does what it promises, I have no doubts, but investing €3000 / €3500 at this time only in an anchor... is a story apart, at least for me.

Definitely throw out that croissant and smelly cheese for the Ultramarine. I love France and many of the things made here but we have total trust in these guys which is why we are working with them. Oh la la,

Same here it's been wet for months, lots of flooding but the sailing season is on us so we are all happy. The sandpits are great and I did go looking for a bucket and spade but was told that they were for anchors only.

My Anchoring perspective got modified by getting into the Rhode Island Harbour of Refuge to seek shelter from an incoming very severe Tornado Storm, when the ability of an Anchor to Fail Constructively really hit home by saving my boat from what would otherwise have been a capsize, with the anchor pushing out sideways after being hit by a tornado that was so powerful on the starboard side, that the VHF aerial on the top of the Mast, was buried under the water on the port side of the boat. The water had flooded the port side, side deck, and was on the brink of flooding the Cockpit. Then the boat popped upright and the anchor alarm started screaming, so engine started, I flew the anchor between the lines of boats behind me, and reset the anchor in the clear water in the rear. Got clipped by a few more weaker tornadoes, and the boat didn’t budge. I had tried to get a Rocna An hor, but my Visa would have run out prior to getting delivery. Peter, the owner of the Boatyard, said why not get a Lewmar Delta, I can get one of those delivered tomorrow? So I ordered a nicely oversized one, which went onto the end of all high quality triple galvanised chain. Basically, to me, the Lewmar Celta is effectively a Rocna without the hoop, and turned out to set easily and hold really well. That’s the Anchor I’m going to be sticking with tbh, but there are fake ones around to be wary of. I now know of others who have been delighted with their performance in the last couple of years as well in winds up to sixty knots and more. ❤ Best Wishes, Fair Winds, and Safe Travels. A rapidly recovering still landlocked Bob in Wales. 👍🙂🌟🌟🌟⛵️

@@SVTONICBoatWives I’ve even lost the nickname of heavily bruised pincushion after all of the blood extraction points on my right arm have cleared up.🤣 My veins were getting so paranoid as soon as a nurse carrying a syringe came close they were diving deep into my arm to get away from the needles. There appears to be a lot of this p pneumonia bacteria around, as my best friend got rushed into hospital with it last week, and things are still touch and go with him after he has come out of the coma he was in. Apparently if his wife had left calling an ambulance for another hour, he would probably have been dead on arrival. My kid sister is my registered carer now, and she has been absolutely brilliant ❤️👍🌟🌟🌟❤️ . Right now I’m turning my attention to a possible redesign of boat wiring, and the posssibility of creating a zoned system to be able to make full use of the really efficient range of Victron Phoenix small smart inverters, that have really low standby power use, such as for cabins, the 385 va and 500 va models, for the saloon zone a 1200 va, or 2000 va same for the galley, with the possibility of adding in a 3000 va multiplus to function as a booster to cover the use of larger appliances. I’ll have to get a detailed spec with full compliance worked out with either Victron, or a full time marine electrical engineer, but it should help amateurs to start getting boat electrical Installations right, with simple copy and paste layouts for each zone, that then comply with with battery needs, and connections safely to off boat power sources, on boat power sources, and no power leaks off boat. Those small Victron inverters are pretty good value for money tbh. I think I mentioned that I’ve registered an interest in an ex charter Sailboat? It will be phased from the fleet in St Lucia, so getting it out of the hurricane belt in July should be fine. It’s a bit smaller than I would like, but shouldn’t be a problem to get it down to Trinidad for a haulout, a full survey and getting some work done. It has a classic Mast with slab reefing and lazy Jacks, so will need a new Mast and boom for in Mast furling .I’ll be able to ensure that essentials such as the Yanmar Saildrive Cone Clutch upgrade have been done, plus get the zone based rewiring done there too. So hoping there’s lots to look forward to, and as things will have to be done by professionals, it should all be done within a few months. Should be able to get to see the Trinidad football team playing while there as well. My father and I became supporters of them during the last World Cup he took any interest in before he died, and I promised to bring him a supporters a scarf and hat back from a visit there. Better late than never. Best Wishes, Fair Winds, and safe travels.Bob.🙂🌟🌟🌟⛵️❤️

Hi Mario, how's it going? Spades work and if set well are ok;) All we are showing is how Ultramarine has evolved and fixed many of the issues of the anchor. Our boat will be set up with an ultramarine as we trust the anchor and gear. If you are happy with yours and trust it then that is what matters by the way I like the choice of boat, the 473 is a superb boat. fair winds. 🤩😁😜
