Brisbane is based on the French national anthem that was originally used during the French revolution. The former Fitzroy Lions Football Club used that same theme and when they merged with the Brisbane Bears in 1996, they kept the Fitzroy song with word change. South Melbourne to Sydney had one word change "South will go in and Win overall" to "Swans will go in and Win overall"

you should do the same thing but with the teams singing them as it completely changes the songs. As some are so old the music makes them feel different to hearing the team sing their song after a win plus you get the passion from the team. although i have to admit in my opinion port has the best song and that is coming from a Carlton supporter, it is catchy and i like the build up and i also know all the words and it gets stuck in my head after i hear it. also as a Carlton supporter i am holding back so much with your Carlton comments

The best way to judge the songs is either by seeing the players sing it in the rooms after a win, they all have their own ad libs. Or the crowd after the win. The way the Carlton players start the song with the ba, bada, bada improves it greatly. And I hate leaving the ground after losing to Richmond when the crowd yells “yellow and black”

Some of the versions you had were outdated. All the Victorian teams had their songs re-recorded about 4 years ago but I think most (if not all) have reverted back to the versions recorded by the Fable Singers in the 1970s (probably because of fan backlash, wanting to keep with tradition and the fact that new songs are over-compressed and lack the same raw character). The Collingwood, Melbourne and Hawthorn songs in your playlist were the 2018 versions. The Eagles also now have two different songs - in 2018 they introduced a shortened, simplified version of the one you played which currently blasts over the loudspeaker after they win games. Since 2021, they run out with a controversial new song that keeps the chorus of the old song but adds verses and has a digeridoo and electric guitars. It also has a music video which kinda looks like a TourismWA advert. It was horrible when they briefly had it as the final siren song but I think its okay for pre-game. You should do a video on that one though because it was really controversial among WCE fans.

They weren’t the 2018 versions but they were used beforehand for The Footy Show. The Hawthorn one they used in the 2008 grand final but I’m not sure about the other two.

Western Bulldogs were originally Footscray, they didn't merge or relocate, they only had a name change to Western Bulldogs to represent the wider Western Suburbs of Melbourne that was growing and redeveloping during the 90s. After their near extinction in 1989 and merger attempts with Fitzroy during that time, Footscray realized they had to change their name in order to attract more sponsorship so that is why there are changes from their 1972 version of Sons of S'cray to Sons of the West. The AFL W version of Western Bulldogs has their own version with Daughters of the West due to obvious reasons but still it's a nice song that still keeps the original Footscray tune of the original.

I commented on the other post Rob that the swans song is a version of the original SANFL Port Adelaide Magpies team song which goes: "Cheer cheer the black and the white, honour the magpie day and by night, lift that loyal banner high, shake down the thunder from the sky" etc - hence the lightening bolt of the Power!! And is the reason you can't get your mind around the Swan lyrics! Why do they have to steal so many Yank songs? No original composers in Oz? And not just steal the melody but some steal most of the lyrics. Sydney Swans is almost word for word.

Fun fact. The Sydney song is also the same as Port Adelaide's SANFL club song just changed to fit their Magpie persona in the SANFL

The Brisbane Lions song is from Fitzroy Lions. Fitzroy merged with Brisbane bears. They got Brisbane's location, Fitzroy's mascot and Fitzroy's theme song refurbished

Listening to the theme songs on their own definitely some don’t sound that great Maybe check them out at the final siren of the matches with the crowd affect This is where you’ll get the full affect of the songs I reckon you will think differently then Just like you would have loved it when you were at the Preliminary Final listening the Swans song Great watching your Vlogs mate If you can, try to put Tassie on ya list to visit when you come Down Under next time Cheers 😊🇦🇺👍

It should also be rated how easy it is to chant along or have some sort of fan engagement since its the team anthem, not just one that people listen to and enjoy

Should also include some of the past songs, like Dare to Beat the Bear from Brisbane Bears during their early years before their merger with Fitzroy. Some of the past Eagles songs like their first version including some nice verses. There were some unofficial club songs like Up There Sydney from the 80s as well as Cat Attack from the early 90s.

Glad you put the Suns up top as you will be hearing it tomorrow, when they beat the Swans. 🤣

You also have to remember that most of these teams were made in mid-late 1800s not the 1900s so it is going to be very oldschool

The version of West Coast you hear was the 2000s version, the current Eagles version from 2018 is completely different in tune but still has the same chorus. Their chorus has always been We're the Eagles the West Coast Eagles and we're here to show you why. Their 87 version that is their original version is perhaps my fav version of their song, even if it brings back memories of them beating my Cats in 92 and 94,

As a Freo supporter, I will admit that the original West Coast song was good. Each version since then has been worse. I also prefer Freo's original version with the Russian boat song intro, but I think Rob wouldn't like it as much.

Let's be honest... the best club song (to you) is the song of the club you support... but you are right, Carlton's song is a dirge... and GWS' 'big big sound', reminds me to Monty Python's 'Knights of the round table'.

The Eagles song is by far the worst. A draw between The Suns and The Giants...great songs.

The heroes are those who have earned the right to wear the silver teal and black and white............ and that's all you need to know. Also that's probably the most GC fans have ever heard their song .🙂 And I'll admit I was in some form of pain trying to listen to other clubs songs, It's just not something you do.

I think it's generally agreed upon by most people (it's subjective though, so it differs) that the Tigers song is the best Edit: It's fine to say "the" before a team name. It's weirder not to. I don't know how you put St Kilda (also the most hated theme song, West Coasts wtf haha) above Richmond's but I'll respect your opinion lol. It's much better with a crowd, the Yellow and Black is increible

@@RobReacts1 If you're going to say the full team name like "I go for the Richmond Tigers", then the is definitely needed. Or you could obviously say "The Tigers, The Power, The Swans", but not "The Sydney, The Richmond". Not many people would use both their team names though. One situation where you wouldn't put "the" before a team name is if you say "Go the Swans!" or "Go Tiges". Edit: Although, you could also hear "Up the mighty Tigers" as well

The Hawthorne song, and the West Coast Eagles song is not the up-to-date versions

What team do you go for

The songs are the older versions for some clubs so it would be better if you could listen to the new ones by just searching up the team song individually instead of searching afl team songs. You would go Collingwood song 2023

The worst AFL club themes are the more recent teams Freo, GWS and Gold Coast. Although I don't support them, I reckon the Port Adelaide power is the best. My team the Sydney Swans theme is ok about middle of the list. Magpies Bombers Tigers Cats and Dees are reasonably good. I agree Carlton's song sucks but is not the worst!! I just hope they get a good songwriter for the new Tassie Devils theme!!

When 60 thousand Collingwood supporters are singing and only 10 thousand Gold Coast supporters are singing, at that point in time the Sun's song just doesn't compete. It' s all about the passion and number of the supporters singing the song.

No offence, but this seems a pretty bad tier list. I get that this is all subjective opinion but merely listening to the recorded studio version doesn't do the songs justice. Footy club songs are best song arm in arm with your mates or with a stadium of thousands around you. The thing about them is that the newer more 'corporate' sounding songs are just awful to sing as a team after a win. I can see you enjoying the Fremantle song, but remove the beat and the guitars you like and the lyrics are awful. That's what gets sung. Pretty uninspiring. The same can be said for hearing the songs at the ground when you have other fans singing it with you, When you have 80000 tigers fans singing, that song slaps, when you hear the eagles song at Optus? not so much. Hearing the suns run out to theirs is drastically worse than hearing the giants run out with theirs. Almost all the older songs are based on a pre-existing tune that was modified for the football teams. Adelaide - US Marines Hymn, Brisbane (Fitzroy) - La Marseillaise, Carlton - Lily of Laguna, Collingwood - Goodbye Dolly Gray, Essendon - Keep your Sunny Side up, Geelong - The Toreador Song, Hawthorn - Yankee Doodle boy, Melbourne - You're a Grand Old Flag, North Melbourne - Just a wee Deoch and Doris, Richmond - Row, Row, Row, St Kilda - obviously, Sydney - Notre Dame Victory March, Western Bulldogs - Sons of the Sea.

Some of the club songs have been revised since their original versions, as far back as 1972 with the original VFL clubs. Adelaide had one revision of their club song that was really epic intro from their 1997/1998 Premierships. The opening sounds like Gladiators marching into the stadium and NOT the Circus version of Gladiators.

I find it funny you love Dockers the most. Everyone hates that song. Probably because it’s so unlike most of the other songs.

The AFL songs from the Victorian based Clubs were originally written/recorded back in 1972 in the VFL era, early 70s so that is why they lack that punch compared to the songs that sound like they were from the 80s and 90s. Richmond Fans really shout out YELLOW AND BLACK in their song, while the St Kilda players go with the Call and Response in their second chorus. (Oh when the Saint's OH WHEN THE SAINTS Go marching in GO MARCHING IN) The songs by themselves don't always reflect how the fans and players change their versions during game day.
