I had the 10.5" in Rose Gold. Really wished they did that color in the 12.5". I really liked the smaller one, this was my first iPad. I fell in love with it. After using it for a couple of days, I didn't like the size. I found typing on the attached keyboard not so great with the smaller screen. I decided to get the bigger screen. I went with the biggest memory only because I wanted to use it like a second laptop, when away from my desktop. I love watching movies on it and since getting it I pretty much do everything on it now from reading books to writing. I especially love using the pen and writing my thoughts down. (it's replaced my paper notebook) My sister now has the 10.5"

I had the first gen 12.9 and finally upgraded this year to a 2017 10.5. And to be honest, the 10.5 is the perfect size. I loved my 12.9 but it was a beast, and could be unwieldy. Typing on it was also a pain in the ass. Everything that bugged me on the 12.9, has been eliminated on my new 10.5. I believe the 10.5 is the way to go guys.

One big difference (that I didn't see explicitly called out) is that in a split screen landscape mode (with two apps open side by side) the 12.9 will display each in their normal UI control format (will appear like two full side-by-side ipad apps) where on the 10.5 the apps will be rendered at a reduced UI mode (so you end up with iphone sized versions of each app rendered). This depends somewhat on the apps you are using but its worth noting the 12.9 does 2 "full UI" ipad apps side by side and the 10.5 will most likly render a reduced UI version of the app when running side-by-side.

I picked up the 10.5 iPad Pro, as i was upgrading from the iPad Air 1 . I found the marginal increase in size good enough, and the spec boost to be phenomenal! The 12.9 is too big for me. I usually do my mails, Facebook, stream Netflix KZread music and do a lot of reading on the iPad, so the 10.5 was the better choice for me. In portrait mode its just feels better in the hand when reading books, comics and holding it in bed at night. The speakers are actually quite good in both devices, though not once have i found myself turning up speakers up to full! Man is it a great device to have for basic tasks ..

I will now return my iPad pro 12.9. I‘ve tested it thoroughly for media consumption, games, work etc. and it is of course really good, but after a while I lost the wow factor for the bigger display. It feels chunky now, especially the bezels make the 12.9 look old compared to the 10.5. I will buy the iPad 10.5 instead, because 90% of the time I only surf the web and watch videos on it and it‘s smaller size makes it easier to use and it looks so much more beautiful and futuristic compared to the 12.9

For my purpose: I‘m studying economics and I‘m tired of printing all the documents and writing on extra papers without being able to write stuff right into the script. I would use office on my iPad and work with texts as well as underling important passages and taking some notes. Here and then I would listen to music, Play 1-2 Games and watch videos when not learning. Currently I have an iPad Air 1st gen 32gb and I want to upgrade because of the lack of stylus/pencil-support for making notes and not enough power. Thanks 4 helping!

@Luna Lily ... There's absolutely no debate. If it's for Art, go with the 12.9 version. Multitasking split screen will be significantly better with the larger screen real estate. If you're going to be using the Procreate app, the ability to split screen with a picture and Procreate is great. Also, you have to realize when drawing, your palm/fist/hand will be taking up a lot of screen real estate on a 10.5 version. The 12.9 gives you breathing room to do more.

The 12.9" iPad Pro makes it possible for the visually impaired to enjoy the iPad experience without having to give up too much of the viewable text. Selecting bold and/or larger text on a smaller screen means that at least some of the text will be truncated (chopped off) making it more difficult to interpret. :-)

@Chris Bogart ... Go with the 12.9 version if you like to multitask with split screen. Go with the 12.9 version if you're going to be doing art using an iOS art app along with reference material from the internet or your library photographs. Here's a side by side visual comparison between the 1st gen and 10.5 ipad. The size of both ipads are basically the same. I have the 4th gen ipad, and hypothetically if it had the ability to do multitasking split screen, it would still be way too small. Go with the 12.9 version if you like to work in split screen. 1st gen vs 10.5 ipad kzread.info/dash/bejne/dpZl2sqhZc20eNY.html

I'm an artist and I went with the 12.9. I like it because it feels closer to an 11x14 sketchbook to me. It probably doesn't make *that* much of a difference either way and I'm sure both are awesome, but 12/9 is a nice and comfortable size of a tablet for me create on.

The 12.9 inch is just too big due to them bezels. I went with the 10.5 and it feels just right for me. Saving 200 bucks. Also the split typing really does help when viewing in portrait. The 12.9 is uncomfortable to hold. Here’s to hoping eventually we get a 13 inch bezel less display in the near future in the form factor of the 10.5.

so I'm stuck between the two variants, my company is moving to a fully digital platform and has come up with a program for the sales team exclusive to Apple... this program allows for a slideshow-like presentation layout that also provides inventory selection content in drop-down menus which formulate our contracts.... the demographic that is primarily services are those belonging to the older generations and with all that being said, which do you guys think is the better choice for this type of presentation usage? (To note) I will ALSO be using this tablet outside of work for personal use as well for all of my own files and such

There's no doubt that the 10.5 is beautiful but if people really want to replace a laptop and have the ability to multitask with a lot of room, then the 12.9 is definitely the way to go. I understand that the edges are wider etc and it might not look as 'pretty' but having used both, the 12.9 just feels a lot more luxurious.

I’m planning on getting one to replace my MacBook Pro (too heavy). I plan on running an online store, and doing video content creation (iMovie, Lumafusion) However I plan on being a digital nomad with it, so portability is a factor. Is the 10.5 big enough? Also plan to read and watch videos a lot.

I do have a question, I am a remodeling designer. I design home additions, mainly sunrooms. We are about to switch to an Apple based design app that will use augmented reality, much like Pokemon go, to actually design and "place" the room on the home. So I will be using it during design appointments to put into the homeowners hands so that they can move it around 2 view the room and its placement on their home. Would I be better off going for the larger iPad? I am currently using approximately a 16 inch laptop, but I only use it while sitting at a table. I think it would be easier for my homeowner's to handle the 10.5 inch, but it seems that they may get a better view with the 12.9. Your thoughts? I believe that the majority of the time will be spent at a table top but a good bit will also be spent standing at the back of the house allowing the homeowner to visualize what their addition would look like with the iPad in hand. So portability is not a big issue. I already carry around a case of the laptop. This will replace that laptop.

Ugh it’s hard. I had the 9.7 Pro and ever since then I’ll only get the pro versions of the iPad but the thing I loved it most for was to watch videos or stream Netflix. Screen is gorgeous with way above average speakers so I think the 12.9 would be better. The only thing how long does it take to charge the 12.9. Apple needs fast charging Esp for the iPads. The minus charge quick. I had a 12.9 Android note tablet before and it took forever to charge. That was a waste of $1,000.00 bucks

I have a question for you....why do videos not have sound if the video is an in-app video? For instance, in my news apps, if a video is embedded in with a story in the app, and the video plays in the app, there is no sound. But, if the video opens in another page, there is sound. One person in the Apple discussion forums wrote me to pull down from the top right on the screen, and the Control Center pulls down. She said there should be a red bell. If it’s there, I need to click on it to unsure it. Well, the red bell is on one iPad, the newer iPad Air, but not on the not so old iPad Air, the iPad I use for internet, the games, etc. So, is the red bell on the iPad Air made in certain years the only ones with that red bell? Is it certain operating systems only that have the red bell? Is there a second solution to enable in-app videos to have sound?
