Whetstone Sharpening the Worlds Cheapest Knife

Ойын-сауық

I bought this knife at random from a dollar store in Canada, for only $1.50! Is it even possible to make this thing sharp?!

I don't think anyone says you can't get an edge on a cheap knife. In fact, it's easier than usual. The problem is it won't hold that edge for shit.

It took me a few weeks, practicing daily, and being very adamant with my techniques and criticism. That was with a cheap smith 2-stone kit which was basically garbage... If those stones are at all decent, they will do it with good technique. Technique is KEY. Even with the best stones on the market, you'll get nothing of an edge if you don't know how

Good example, thx... and yeah, even the cheapest steels these days will still take a nice edge. And this one only took a few minutes to accomplish. Unlike some of the newer 'super steels', often taking over 2-3 times as long to sharpen, and also requiring much more 'aggre$$ive' abrasives. And where a cheap 440 or AUS 8 steel can be sharpened on a rock in the middle of nowhere.... on the other hand with something like, say D2, better go find some 'diamonds to sharpen that blade (and also hope there are no 'chips' to smooth)... cuz nuthin's ever 'free'!

@@kyle_noseworthy Perhaps using it in the kitchen for a while just to see how long it can keep the sharpness. Good video anyways.

Upsides: easier to use than stones, given that angles are fixed. Less user skill required. Downside: Takes up a ton of space, you don't learn transferable sharpening skills, not portable, expensive, doesn't last like stones do.

Sorry brother but I had to shut his video off. Incredibly irritating to listen to somebody else sneeze snot and cough on a speaker. Possibly suggest editing out body functions noises for future videos. Understand you are not well filming this video.Just don't get making a feature out of this. This common is intended as constructive criticism...
