    I found out last year that my liver isn't doing too good. The Dr believes it was found in time to recover fully. I always told myself that once a Dr tells me I need to quit, I'd just quit. It's not that easy. I've been struggling to stay sober but at this moment I'm a few days shy of 3 months sober. Hopefully I'll pull it off this time 😊

    You will get there my friend. It is a tough road on which you will feel a lot of pain and regret. Through all of it remember you are loved beyond what you can know from mortality. Our job here is to feel emotions and learn to love inspite of circumstances. Soon, as the fog clears, you will know sobriety to be the aligned state of your self, and synchronicity will bring better luck, and a better life for you and those you love. I believe in you! It isn't corny. It is true unconditional love. Peace be with you.

    You don't want to give up on alcohol too late, and you never want to give up on sobriety too early. You narrowly avoided what some never get the chance to. Never take this for granted. sometimes I like to play this game and pretend like I just traveled back in a time machine. and I'm here right now in this moment getting to make the better decision or the worst decision. and I remind myself that I get to live this reality right now, healthy, pain-free, and everything well by all accounts. it reminds me to show gratitude. to be present. to know that this IS real, and I don't have to go back to the future, old, tired, and on my death bed. Here's to living that reality someday, and making sure that we get there by making the best decisions we can TODAY. 👁️❤️👁️

I'm almost a year alcohol free, best decision I ever made. I hope this community doesn’t find this a negative comment but I want to say to everyone out there if you find sobriety, hold onto it with both hands and wrap a rope around yourself and stay grounded. I went back to drinking after seven years and it has taken me 10 years to find my way back and in that time I have done damage to my body, my relationships, etc. etc. some of Which will never be repaired. But I also want to say that now I have found sobriety again, and this channel has helped me immensely. By Jay, giving me the grace to have a few Asterisk days I’m finding my path back to a life. Which has helped me see a set back doesn’t mean utter failure. I can rise again. God bless you my friend ❤

    After almost losing my life eight months ago due to alcoholism I can vouch to all in this community its danger. I spent 10 days in the hospital and it was touch and go. After my discharge it took 3 months to recover. I use this horror to stay sober. I have a fantastic wife who took great care of me. In December my check up showed my pancreas was working and my liver was back to normal! Everyone continue to do the best you can and stay with this channel.

    Alcohol was my go-to for depression. I was a VERY active and happy drinker/drunk. I only stopped because of my bloodwork. When I stopped drinking my depression hit HARD but I leaned in on my Dr. and Therapist and am pulling through! Reaching out to the professionals has been amazeballs for me. I'm on antidepressants and sleep meds and I'm FINE with that. I'm only 80days sober. When I'm years sober and feeling steady, I'll work on getting off those but for NOW, I'm focusing on sobriety. I am a LITTLE nervous about staying sober on Easter with my drunk family. They are not so supportive when they get drunk, but I love and miss them.

  • @GettingSoberAgain

    @GettingSoberAgain

    Because we love and miss __________ is not a reason to put yourself into a situation that may cause you undue stress and the possibility of causing a premature end to your sobriety. There are plenty more holidays to spend with your family, where you can and should be more confident in your sobriety journey. A good sign is: when you won't be nervous ✅

  • @gwillis01

    @gwillis01

    3 ай бұрын

    In my trivial opinion, it's a dangerous high risk situation. I would skip the Easter dinner and wait until you have several more months of sobriety in your history. If you feel that you simply must go, I would merely make a token appearance of fifteen or twenty minutes at the very beginning of the event. If you need an excuse, work with a friend to set up a fake. "emergency " call that pulls you away from the event.

    You don't take credit for others' sobriety. It's true that each person has to make the decision for themselves and work towards sobriety. However... The valuable facts & information, positive feedback, and videos you create has surely been the catalyst or the final motivational factor for many people. You have already saved more than one life by now, perhaps several, and that's the most honorable thing one person can do for another. You can stay humble, but I don't have to be. 14 weeks ago I accepted the conviction that my relationship with alcohol was no longer OK. Once I embraced that truth then I began to watch your videos along with a few others. Since then I’ve been getting sober again… A few times. Every time I held off it was amazing how fast my body recovered and felt better. My energy was better, my sleep was better and my overall mental and emotional outlook was better. Every time I would go back and try to drink “responsibly“ then it just went back to feeling bad and anxiety kicked in and the outlook didn’t look so good. With God’s help, I am six days sober again… And it is amazing how much better I feel mind, body and soul…again!! This time I cut the cord off at the nub. I cannot reattach the plug anymore. And I don’t want to! Thank you Jae for your encouragement!

    I would still be drinking and thinking about quitting manyana, manyana... Quitting felt like a life sentence, "you are sentenced to a life without alcohol" But at some point you start realizing the damage it is doing to your body and your life and looking for someone who can inspire you to want the rewards of a sober life and not to give up even if you have some relapses. You, Jae, are that person for me and so many others. Thank you.

    I would have derailed my life. In june 2021 I had drank every day for two years. I was looking at how those two years had been and I came to the conclusion that quitting is the only option. I had three short slips in first four months, then it sticked. Sober since October 3rd, 2021. Many areas of my life have improved a lot. I had nearly 30 000€ worth of debt because of my drinking. In summer I will have 0 debt. I'm so grateful for that and other beautiful gifts of sobriety.

    Heaven and Hell are already both inside of us. As anyone knows who's struggled with addiction, we know what hell we can go through in the pursuit of just temporary happiness. Being of service to others is the greatest gift any of us can give, and I'm happy that there are more people NOW helping me to win this war. Because if there ISN'T a heaven after this is all said and done, I'd be sad to not meet you all there 😇

    Exceptional episode! So vulnerable, and that is how sobriety happens. Truth. Addiction is only truth in the fact of itself--which most addicts deny. I wish I had more to offer folks in terms of strategy for sobriety. I don't. I was an Olympic class drinker--a supremely functional alcoholic. Probably rolling with a .2 BAC for several years before an unrelated illness caused me to die for a moment. In that space of truth I saw how I had ruined my life and others, and for some reason also graced with a second chance. Returning to my body I found it easy to ignore what my body craved because my mind was now reconnected to my higher self. In six years since the lessons of near death keep coming, and one thing I have just realized is that for all the pain I was trying to kill before I quit, I also killed all the good memories too. Emotions are the glue that make experiences significant. Alcohol distorts and destroys emotional connections, making experiences less meaningful. Good or bad. We are supposed to feel all of it in full technicolor splendor. It is how you grow as a soul. Peace be with you all!

    Tomorrow is day 200 of sobriety for me. A lot of what you say in this video hits me hard. Like you, I would drive myself home because the bars I went to were right down the street, so I convinced myself it was fine. I also smoked cigarettes while drinking and partook in the little baggies you talked about. It's all so terrifying to me now when I look back. Any one of those times that little baggy could've been something else. I've had people in my life die from that very reason, and it's just horribly sad. I was stuck in the cycle for so long, thought I was just "having fun" because all other aspects of my life were seemingly normal and I was well put together. No more. My eyes become more open each day that I'm sober. Thank you for sharing!

    I didn't drink for 18 months during covid, not commuting took a lot of stress away. Back at work, we had a bad drinking culture. At the same time, my less talented colleague became my boss. Then at the same time, I had to fly back to UK and deal with a very sick parent during the omincron lockdown. I was stuck in a English seaside town, during a bleak winter and figured my dad didn't need his nice liquor collection, lol. The irony is, his ashes are sat in that liquor cabinet hahaha. It's easy to justify drinking while grieving, i gave it another year and became so depressed from the drink I was done. 4.20.2024 was the last day. Dropped nearly 50lbs since then.

I’ve DEFINITELY noticed: it was easy to stay sober. It’s hard to get sober. Don’t take that first drink. Just don’t. I promise it’s not worth it!!! It’ll suck you back in. So hard so quick. Yeah that debt is a killer. Like I said, I was $18k in credit card debt plus interest, but now I have no back interest and pay off my cards every month back to $0. It's ALL a journey. And it's always good. keep track of your own results. maybe get yourself a big white board and put it in your bedroom so you can visually see your different goals. maybe you have a weight loss goal, or a muscle building goal, or a ping or credit card down goal or putting money into a savings goal, or X amount of days sober goal, saving towards a vacation, or saving up for a down payment for a new car. That's why I always talk about getting these things out into the open. because so many people just stuff what's going on in their lives into the back of their minds and they don't have a clear visual. If you don't have a clear visual, you can't clearly see your path. And if you can't see your path, you don't know where you came from to appreciate where you're going. 🫡

    What an inspirational video Jae👍 I am fast approaching six months sober so here we go. I now sleep all night and I remember my dreams which the majority are all happy ones! I am never hungover anymore(I must have been the worst at dealing with them ever!) I now make positive and constructive decisions. I am always able to be a full time, anytime designated driver for any of my family, without saying "Sorry I ve had a beer, get a cab or well go another day" (which then never happens!) I am now physically active everyday, I have fallen back in love with the gym. I have definately lost weight. I have definately more disposable income. I could keep going 😂 I am not saying its been easy, I am sometimes glad its not as I have been tempted recently to just pick up a pack of beers from the shop, It couldnt hurt? Could it?? I will fight this everyday, some days I dont need to fight too hard, other days this journey can be relentless and so cruel. I am not about to give up on me! Not tonight or any other night and I dont care who I offend by politely refusing a glass/bottle/pint of it! My sincere thanks to Jae and this community

I honestly don't know if I'd like me as much as I do today but it was on the small steps I took that helped me realize I needed to care about myself and extend a hand to the drowning prone guy i used to be. I still swim now and again but I'm no longer diving into the deep end flirting with disaster. No more empty bottle shrines around the trash can and no more hang overs at work or on a day off recovering. I've actually done some cool shit in the last couple months. Continally thankful to this channel for assisting me in learning not to be abusive to myself. It's not abusing alcohol it's abusing yourself. I relate so much to what youre talking about in this video J. Alcohol crippled my mental health, physical health and my creativity. I had played the guitar through my teenage years but ditched it for booze for a hot minute. Im 27 now and finally went for it and went for my dream of becoming a musician. I started busking a little while ago and ended up getting myself a gig for a 30th birthday party on my first day street preforming (later that same day). Now rather than spending 100-150 dollars a week on alcohol im making that money doing what i love. Its not much but its a start. 171 days in now. The thought of even having alcohol sends anxiety and nervous pain all through my body. God bless you and your family 🎉

    Another great video Jae ❤ I’m 80 days today and this last week I’ve noticed a tangible improvement to the amount of available energy I can tap into. I’m more active, I run regularly, eat better, sleep SO well and dream every night. My anxiety levels are low, and I’m positive everyday. I took some time to reflect on these last 80 days, and realised these things. I was impatient earlier, almost expecting a lightbulb moment of profound change, but these things are incremental aren’t they, and self reflection / meditation can really help you understand the subtle differences, and be grateful for them. And I’m hugely grateful for you!

    @@GettingSoberAgain I’ve actually started taking creatine again, I used to take it when I worked out regularly as a younger man, but I never knew about the other benefits of it. From what I’ve read, we probably had more creatine in our diets in our ancestral diets. I wasn’t aware about potential eye sight improvements, but I’ll see if I notice any changes now you’ve mentioned it (pun unavoidable!), I have a rare type of macular degeneration which is being checked in on every year, be very interested if this helps me! I’ve definitely seen an improvement in my workouts, maybe the creatine has a part to play in my overall energy improvements too. Interesting…. Either way, what I’m doing is working so I will carry on and enjoy all the positive benefits I’m experiencing!! Always feel welcome to drop in with an update when I have one. Thank you!

    Try this out: When we ask God for assistance, what if God is there with us? So if we are WITH God, are we going to do what we are asking for help with? God is there...WITH you. Watching. So, in those times of temptation, simply try this mantra "I am with God", like you're walking into a VIP party and you're God's +1...Say it with confidence! know that you belong in that exclusive room and that exclusive company of sobriety and that God opened the door for you. Jay, I have been here for a while. Ive had myself a few asterisks and now my mindset has changed completely. As you always say, it’s not about the destination it’s about the journey. For the last three years, I’ve gone 14 months solid without a drop and up until this current comment I would say a total of a half a dozen drinks in the 12 month span. They’re all at Milestone events, random one off at a fancy dinner, etc. but I have not drink more than 2 in any setting in these last 3 months. My mindset around drinking has also given me the confidence to kick nicotine and weed. Im so happy you’re here Jay I’ve given up the whole aspect of just 100% total absence because it seem to still occupy my mental space just as much as it was when I was getting drunk on the daily. I know I’ll never be a “Normie“ but I have a much better sense of awareness about my actions and how I make a choices and for that I can thank you.

    Well if it makes you feel any better, I always like to remind you that this is "No Judgement Sobriety". I already know you're being harder on yourself than anyone else would be. This may come as a shock, but I don't particularly mind if people drink. What I mind is, when people in the community know better, and wind up back where they started. It's all about progress. I'm not under any delusion that any more than a small single digit percent of people here are going to remain "totally abstinent". At the end of the day, I just want people to be proud of themselves. if that just means they went from 20 beers a day down to 2, cool. If that means that they took a year off and reprioritized they lives and goes back to casual drinking on special occasions, so be it. And I'm happy to have people here like yourself, who can be honest, happy, and hold their heads up with integrity knowing that they are truly doing their best because they actually attempted their best.

    That's how it should be in my opinion. After watching one my our videos, I hope that you feel like you just had a conversation with a good friend that cares about you.

    When I was 22, I found out that I had a severe fatty liver with possible fibrosis. I stopped drinking for 9 months and got cleared by the specialist who told my me liver was fine based on my bloodwork returning to normal, so I then started going out drinking again on weekends. It was your typical binge drinking, because of social pressure. I've worked on my fitness and lost 30kg in the time since, with various stints of sobriety and binge drinking on weekends still remaining a part of my life. Thankfully, when I was 26 I had my liver enzymes checked again and they all came in normal, so I kept drinking on weekends. A year on from that test, it's only just hit me what an idiot I am, no friends are worth this. I am getting sober for good this time and moving to the countryside so I'm not tempted to keep drinking. I just hope it's not too late! Any reassurance would be great.

    My pleasure: Don't keep killing yourself. Don't keep overthinking. Don't look for anyone else to tell you what you already know to be the truth. 😎

    An Awesome video. Thank you. This candour and honesty is very much needed by me, who doesnt suffer fools gladly (and there are quite a few on the internet!) You have motivated me to find out what "...getting bloods done..." means and if I can get a similar blood test here in the UK. All the best to you sir.

    "getting your Blood labs done" = blood test A Complete Blood Count (CBC) checks red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. A CBC can identify conditions including anemia, heart disease, autoimmune disease, leukemia, and other cancers. The comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP) is a blood test that gives doctors information about the body's fluid balance, levels of electrolytes like sodium and potassium, and how well the kidneys and liver are working. my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diagnostics/24508-blood-tests

    Ask for a complete blood count. It's a series of several chemical tests done to one vial of blood. It's a very common diagnostic test.
