10:23 I am originally from Morocco but I was born and raised in Canada (I still live here), ever since my siblings and I were born, my parents talked to us only in Arabic at home, they would get mad if we spoke French at home (because we are from Montreal), and when we went to school, that’s where we learned French and English, and that was the only place where we spoke French and English, not allowed to speak them at home, ofc only when it was school related. And Al HamdulilAllah, we speak English, French and Arabic fluently. So my advice is to maybe speak Arabic only with ur kid, cuz Arabic is our religion language, and InchAllah ur kid will learn the other language at school. Rabi yhfadkom ❤

10:42 louisa is right! im libyan and i speak 3 languages fluently. born and raised in scotland so by default english is my first language. my mum only spoke to me in tamazight and like louisa said she would always say to me ‘i don’t understand’ if i spoke to her in english even though she did which pushed me to speak tamazight. and lastly for arabic, my mum made me and all my older siblings to go to a libyan school which i attended from ages 6-14 every saturday which was where i learnt arabic from social interactions and lessons as well as islamic lessons and history etc. if you guys want your child to be bilingual, i highly encourage using the method of saying you don’t understand them when they speak english. especially because they’re bound to pick english up anyway from relatives and media and stuff so i would recommend focusing on arabic at home. may Allah protect you both and your child 💓

Allahumma Barik, here’s a suggestion for the languages, both of you should speak Arabic to the kid, if the kid is going to be learning English at school. My dad spoke to us in Arabic and my mom in English but none of us know how to speak Arabic, we only understand it. If the kid isn’t learning English at school then it would make sense to speak to it at home. But anyway I truly love how you guys are putting this video. Subhnallah I feel like I am part of the secrecy

My son is 6 and I spoke to him in English as he spent most of his time with me. His father is Algerian so because he worked a lot he wasn’t at home as much as me so my son grew up speaking English. We now live in Algeria and my son is only starting to learn to speak Arabic now. So from experience speak as much Arabic to your child as possible xx
