Where, When and How to Rattle in More Bucks Using Science

Deer scientists who hunt studied the effectiveness of rattling antlers at calling in whitetail bucks. They tried rattling under different conditions, at different volumes, using different sequences, and at different times across hunting season. Here's a recap of their results that will help you know where, when and how to use rattling antlers more effectively.

Great video thanks! I have a possibility as to why the low cloud cover might increase the odds with rattling. In the radio world it is called NVIS. Near Vertical Incident Skywaves. It is a condition that reflects radio waves off of the atmosphere and back down to earth, effectively 'skipping' the sound long distances across the globe. Could be the same thing if atmospheric conditions are better to reflect the rattling sound, kind of like a low ceiling. Anyway, good info!

Clouds mean humidity. Humidity makes sound travel farther.

Been using drippers for 20+ years. Love them. Pointer: it will drip any liquid you put in them. I have used vanilla extract in them. You have to find a scent that attract them. You can also use them for cover scent. Can use them for predator hunting as you saw. Can use for hogs. So my advice is like fishing, change your lures for your area. Cant just use first scent. BTW you dont have to buy drippers they are easy to make and you can make 2 liter drippers. Remember its the concept. It drips whatever you put in it during daytime. Try using for a cover scent like racoon pee etc between your stand and food plot, game trail etc. That way when the wind isnt perfect you have cover. Goodluck

The best time to rattle is during a windy day. And also it's better to rattle on the ground and ruffle the leaves at the same time.

2 years in a row, mature bucks rattled into 10 and 30 yards from a tree stand in zero wind.

Are there any differences in rattling in Southern states compared to mid Western states?

Yes, if you rattle in the southern states, the bucks won’t respond if they are in mid west. Via versa

Yes but it's mainly only because the deer go into rut at different times of the yeas depending on the seasons. Down here in Texas we often see the rut in Late October or early November. However if we have really warm or really cold Falls that can change when the Deer rut.
