Where Were You // A song about suffering, inspired by the book of Job.

Музыка

On this Good Friday, we remember that God came to earth, came down to the dirt, walked with us, and died for us. God is good. Jesus will reign forever. The book of Job is a powerful story of how God knelt to speak to us in the midst of our pain. God is present in your pain.
Song Info:
Where Were You
Performed by Ghost Ship
Written by Cam Huxford IV and Brian Eichelberger
Lyrics:
I said, God, I do not understand this world
Everything is dying and broken
Why do I see nothing but suffering
God, I'm asking, could this be your plan
Sin has taken hold of this whole land
Will You not say anything else to me
He said, where were you the day that I measured
Sunk the banks and stretched the line over
All the earth and carved out its cornerstone
Where were you the day that I spoke and
Told the sun to split the night open
Called the morning dawn with its light to show
Who shut in the ocean with stone doors
Marked the reach of tides on those new shores
Hung the day the waves rose and first broke forth
Have you seen the springs of that great sea
Walked the caverns carved in the black deep
Through the gates of darkness there on its floor
Have you seen the armory I hold
Snow and hail are stacked up in silos
For the times of trouble and war and strife
Can you raise your voice to the storm cloud
Would the thunder answer and ring out
Does the lightning ask you where it should strike
Who has cleft the channels for torrents
Rain to sprout the desert with forest
In the wilderness that my hand has filled
Can you hunt the prey for young lions
Can you use the chords of Orion
Is this whole world bending beneath your will
I spoke of things I did not understand
Things too wonderful for me
Although I had no right to ask
My God knelt and answered me

When I get a little too big for my britches (ugh....disdaining the "stupid people" instead of agreeing how stupid we all are including me) Job 38-42 cures me right away of that!!! All I have to do is kneel with Job and listen ... this song reminds me that is the place to go. And what a beautiful, amazing picture at the end. I didn't have a dad like that. But now my Father -- our Father -- IS that and so much more!

I recently lost my friend, a child of God as well, to suicide and began to doubt my faith. I’ve been working to reclaim it and this song helps.

This song has aided me in some difficult times over the past decade. I know Mars Hill was messy at times. But isn’t it just like God to use a mess to bring together a masterpiece. This is one of them.

I think this was one of, if not the first l ghost ship songs I listened to. Every time it finds me again, it builds upon what it meant to me before.

How great our God! So vast down to every minute detail. We are so small in comparison yet God says we are worth it. We sometimes feel that we are not heard but we are. Thank you for this beautiful song and reminder. ❤❤❤

Such a beautiful song capturing the exchange (if we can call it that) between YHWH and Job. Thank you for making it. God's using it to get me through this season.
