He was shipwrecked in mljet which a Croatian island in the Adriatic , which was known as melita at that time. St Paul was bitten by a viper, but there are no vipers in Malta, whereas the Dalmatian coast of Croatia is swarming with snakes, especially vipers

I agree. Most probably, the "Melita" that Luke was referring to is the present day Mljet, Croatia.

How then, would you explain the conversion to Christianity of the Roman governor of Malta and is now St. Publius. How also, would you explain the conversion of the entire Island. Then there is also the four anchors that were discovered and are displayed in the Malta Maritime Museum. They were located in water that has the same depth, as described in Acts, and location befiting the same Acts description.

And his next stop was Syracuse, which is on the way to Rome. The Adriatic is not in the way to Rome.from Crete. Perhaps the venomous species was a non native stowaway that simply died out on Malta over time?

Hi Dave, it's always so good to see you show up on my phone. Godly truth is always a plus for your day. Even if someone doesn't believe in God it's a good thing, but I do know Jesus and love Him too, and hearing what those who also do is a great encouragement to me. Blessings Dave and Cold Water for doing these. Keep them coming. I'm sure there are many subjects you can find to produce. The Lord will bless.

Not Malta in the Mediterranean. Paul was shipwrecked on Mljet island off the coast of Croatia. The bible clearly states Pauls ship was in the Adria, (Adriatic). Plus...there are no vipers on Malta, but there is on Mljet. Anyone doing research will also discover, Mljet was known as Malta as well during Pauls time. Nope...not Malta...but Mljet.

The island was not Malta. It was the Greek island of Kephalonia in the Ionian Sea. Melite was the ancient name of Kephalonia and means Black. Because The island has a a large black mountain covered by black fir tree forest. The island has many snakes as the one that bit Paul. There are no snakes in Malta. Kephalonia has a complicated bay with two seas as described in Acts as “bi-thalassos”. Experts of Mediterranean winds claim that all storms in the area south of Crete always throw shipwrecks into the Ionian and Adriatic Sea and never to the area of Malta. The sailors had trouble recognizing the island. That’s because Kephalonia is a humid and foggy place difficult to recognize from a distance.
