I always have been a Nintendo fanboy but when as a kid my parents offered me a DS for Christmas I chose the PSP. most of my life decisions are regrettable and questionable but chosing a PSP over a Nintendo DS was one of my best decisions XD (I still have it and use it)

Quick correction here (and I'm about to nerd out a bit): The PSP Go can output to a TV. You just need to purchase an adapter that matches the charging plug. There also exists a "dock" stand of sorts that doubles as a place to charge the Go, as well as output it to the TV. When paired with the Go's ability to connect to a PS3 controller via Bluetooth, it begins to sound like Sony beat Nintendo to the concept of the Switch by over a decade. Unfortunately, the dock is very hard to come by, and very expensive if you do find one.

YellowSuperNintendo Yeeeeeah, I saw that. Not sure where people get superiority complexes like that. I also feel the need to note that in order to pair a PS3 controller to a PSP Go, you have to do a process that involves hooking both the controller and the PSP Go up to a PS3. Not everyone has a PS3, so that option may not be open to everyone.

Never owned a PSP myself but I remember many people in secondary school owning one in like 2010-2012. I might consider getting one at some point, especially for some Disgaea and Valkyria Chronicles Games and whatever else I can find. Since Japanese niche games go right down my alley I think even the later PSP era can satisfy me a lot. Overall really informative video. Now it just lies on the shelf, as I'm more playing on my PC, but it allowed me to play never released games in the west like Projects DIVAs, which made me a fan of the series. Ps. You forgot to mention that PSP 2000s and 3000s have 2x the RAM than 1000s have. (64mb from 32mb.) Also 3000s have build-in microphone and back in the day you could've use it on Skype, though probably Skype no longer works on PSP.

Great summary of what to look for. A couple things to add on the PSP E1000 / Street model's screen: It is apparently from what I've read the brightest of all models. Its colours are closer to the 2000 than the 3000 (but not an exact match to either). It also lacks the flickering / scanline issue that affects the 3000, nor does it have the ghosting of the earlier models, making it a pretty good all rounder. If you don't need video out and aren't planning on playing any multiplayer games (lacking any wireless communication at all), it's a pretty solid option - the matte finish may be preferable to some even.

This is a nice video and good timing. Bought a PSP around 2010-11 I believe basically before the Vita came out in North America and recently got back into it so I could finish several games I wanted to finish that are in larger franchises like Persona, and Valkyrie Profile. Got the PSP 3000 via the Metal Gear Peace Walker Entertainment Pack. My left shoulder button has a very minor chip on the backside edge and the screen could use some thorough cleaning or replacement but in great condition overall. Only games I own for the system are Assassins creed bloodlines, God of war chains of olympics, ygo tag force 5, little big planet, mgs peace walker, fate extra, persona 1, persona 2 innocent sin, persona 3 portable, Growlanser wayfarer of time and valkyrie profile lenneth. Need to get a bigger memory stick since I would like to play fan translated PSP games on my PSP or download games available on the Playstation Store, but only have a 2GB memory stick.

Get an sd adapter on ebay, they are 2-3 dollars. Also install cfw, then you can play your physical games digitally after ripping them to an iso file

One major difference the 3000 also had is it's most hidden one. It had a integrated mic. Sony wanted to try to make it a online communication device but never made a difference. Very well made video and very accurate info 👌 and it's been said but PSP go does have video output just have to buy the stupid crazy expensive dock.

I got my PSP from my dad back in 2010. The first game I played was ModNation Racers, had a lot of fun with it. It's not in very good condition though, but it still works. By the way, here in Russia the PSP was far more popular than the DS, because of how easily one can hack it and install custom firmware. Russia isn't a very well-off country and UMDs were expensive af, mind you, so piracy was the only option basically.

deafening screech I’m from Manchester England , to buy a PSP was half a months wages back in the day, the first thing I did when my mums boyfriend bought me one was hack it to run pirated games , he bought this 300 quid console for both me and my brother as a kind thing , but we could not afford the games they were 25 to 35 quid each , I don’t promote piracy but I do accept that if someone can simply not afford it , they can get a digital copy and still enjoy the machine

My holy trinity is PSP/PSV/Switch Lite.. I can’t imagine being without any of them.. Also picked up a nice little 2ds a couple of years ago for certain key titles.. I’ll use a regular DS Lite for the oldie GBA stuff being my SP is a little too dated now.. It’s ironic in that I still use my PSP 3000 mostly for music being I have the stereo adapter..

PSP popular in Southern Ontario? Growing up, nearly everyone i knew in Toronto had a DS Lite. That one odd kid with a PSP always stuck out like a sore thumb in a party. Looking back at the console, hands down I love my PSP a lot more than my NDS. It was was ahead of its time and as a developer, I can only begin to dream of how far people wanted to take the hardware on the homebrew scene. I don't think my younger self would have appreciated it as much because home console visuals, game mechanics and complexity didn't matter as much as being able to just play the same games as friends did. Pokemon was hot, and the Big N had just about everyone I knew on their side of the handheld war. if there is any reason to get a PSP in 2020, its for retro emulation as the console does a solid job. Near native 1:1 PS1 emulation thanks to shared architecture and even does GBA relatively well. I replayed Minish Cap and Fire Emblem on GBA start to finish on PSP back in like 2017 and it was a lot more fun with a proper control layout compared to touch-based android emulation.

My cousin had the GO and I always wanted one but never got it since I didn't have any money, my parents would'nt have wanted to buy me another PSP AND it was digital only and I didn't have any games from the Playstore. Maybe I'll get a GO...just looks so good and sleek (at least at the time).

What you were calling a "Scanline effect" is actually called "combing artifacts* It happens when 480i or similar interlaced video signal isn't properly deinterlaced. It's pretty common in PS2 games on the Framemiester with the wrong video mode.

I had never owned a PSP till years later when it was really cheap to get one. The system is neat , though I couldn't seem to play for too long due to its screen( the 3000 model) giving me eyes strain and sometimes even headaches, also it's kinda small for my hands which caused cramps at times.

I’m sure someone has mentioned it by now, but @5:56, this is incorrect. The PSP Go CAN output to a tv via component but only if you have the dock for the unit. In fact, it might be the best way to play PSP on the TV if the Vita TV didn’t exist since it can pair to a DualShock 3.
