I was going to say something similar but you said it better. I live near a major NE Ohio city and all the WalMarts near me have issues with theft, credit card skimmers, low stock, spoiled stock, or just plain goofballs shopping there no matter what time of day I go. I prefer to scan and bag my own groceries so I can sort things as I go and my bread isn’t squished under the bag of apples but I prefer Aldi, in and out with no distractions and no drama.

I'm German-American and lived in Germany for many years where my family shopped at Aldi a lot. Not exclusively, but still significantly more than most other grocery stores in Rheinland-Pfalz. I was so thrilled when I first saw an Aldi in the US in the small town I lived in back in the late 90's. I haven't lived anywhere since then that didn't have Aldis all over so I very rarely shop at Walmart any more.

Aldi remodeled all the stores in my area and almost immediately the prices went up. Many items are now the same or more at Aldi now. I like to do curbside pickup and Aldi hikes the prices for curbside, Walmart does not. If you do curbside Walmart is way cheaper on pretty much everything.

I'm definitely an Aldi shopper. I actually prefer a smaller store on top of the great prices. I get overwhelmed with so many options. I shop Aldi first and then Hy-Vee and Fareway for items Aldi doesn't have. Hy-Vee frequently runs some great sales, but Fareway tends to have more specialty items for better prices. We are Team Extra Toasty Cheez-Its in our house! But typically that's one of the few snacks we buy in name brand. Aldi's version are perfectly fine Cheez-Its duplicates, but they aren't toasty enough to be extra toasty in my opinion. 😀

It is definitely regional because our Aldi's now has either the same prices as Walmart or actually more than our local Walmart. Which is crazy to me because I have been shopping at Aldi's for a very long time and I would always go there first. Now I still price check, but rarely find that it is worth it. Plus ours is always struggling to stay stocked, which then makes me go to Walmart or another store depending on sales, to get what I need.

Prices make my decisions for me. I'm lucky as I have a Winco & a Walmart & 2 Adli's very close to me. I find Winco & Aldi are the cheapest. I try not to spend over $3 for meat. Last week, Winco had huge boneless pork loins on sale for $2.19 lb. I got one & divided it up for 10 packages for chops & a 2 lb roast for pulled pork. Frugal shopping is possible. It takes planning, & discipline. I love marked down racks. But, each person & family are different with different needs & desires. Happy shopping!

I have noticed lately the Aldi store is raising prices and they are close to Walmart, so as you said if you have drive much farther from your home to get to one or the other, the closer one would be best. I compared prices on some of the items I had recently purchased (granted most were name brand), the price was either the same or higher. The other thing that was a turn off was the overall disarray of items on the shelves. The one bright spot was the produce but I was fully stocked so left without spending a penny. Costco, Sam’s and HEB remain my favorites, with WalMart for certain items.

I've been an ALDI shopper for over 30 years. We also shop at BJ's warehouse weekly. And once or twice a month we might hit Costco, Sam's Club, LIDL, World Market, Publix, Ingle's etc...

The next town over, Texarkana, Texas, is getting our first Audi in the area. Our nearest one was 100 miles away. Texarkana has a Sams, Super1 and Albertsons that i like to shop at as well, great sales. Texarkana in a state that doesn't charge sales tax on food, so added benefit. Between There and my local stores, i can keep my grocery budget down. I know its a lot of running, but my grandbabies live there, so i only do that when i am seeing them.😊

So it will just be an add on to one of those. From what ive heard is that they dont use food dyes in there food. Which will help this Add adult that has a very strict food budget.

I'm on Long Island, NY, until last year the closest Aldi was FAR from me. Now there are 2 close to my job. Walmart here isn't very easy though. Most aren't Supercenters & there's only 1 neighborhood market in the county so we have very little meat & produce in Walmart. I'm actually going to Aldi for the 1st time tomorrow & I'm so excited!

I shop at WinCo, Aldi, Wal-Mart, Dollar Tree and Price Mart. I've noticed if you go at certain times of the day, they will have a good selection of discounted meat. I also go to the clearance sections of the store. I'm temporarily in a town in Delaware County, Oklahoma. The food here is much more than the Tulsa metro. I'm a frugal and smart shopper.

I did a couple of comparison shops of Walmart, Aldi, and Publix. I chose sale items and/or store brands at Publix and was not brand loyal. I chose store brands at Aldi and Walmart. All three stores came within a dollar or two of one another. I feel like if I shop the sales, I'm doing well.

Walmart is too far away from me so do Publix and Aldi. Most people think Publix is insane on their prices and they are if your buying at regular prices but if you shop the sales and the bogos it can actually be cheaper than the other cheaper stores.

  • @hashtagCatholic

    @hashtagCatholic

@@BrianK-zz4fk I agree. Their BOGO prices are always less than both Walmart and Aldi in my area. You have to do some meal planning and stocking up when your favorites go on sale to save. Sales are on a 6 to 8-week cycle so it always comes back around. I eat cottage cheese and avocado for lunch every weekday. Publix almost always has a brand of cottage cheese on sale, even if it's not my favorite. I can stock up on my favorite when it's BOGO and make do with another brand when I'm out. If I plan, I can save at Publix. I like the quality, too, so that's a big win.

I shop at a local grocery store for their ad items, then Sams club, Aldi and walmart last to get whatever I couldnt find at the other stores. Our stores are pretty close together. It takes about 3 hours to shop per week. Our budget is $280/week for a family of 7. It includes all meals, (I pack cold lunches) and laundry soap, kleenex etc.

Great video! It's good to know the prices for Walmart and Aldi. Aldi's is wayyy too crowded for me, and too small of a store. I have bad anxiety so I go to Weis at around 7am when it's just opened and pretty empty. Weis is a bit more pricey than Walmart on certain items but overall about the same, and Weis offers e-coupons. I liked your suggestion in another video to do pick-up orders from Walmart so you stick to your list and don't do an impulse buy

I love shopping Aldi and have for over 15 years. I am torn over the last few years as I enjoy the convenience of grocery pick up and know I’m paying more for my Aldi pickup when using the third party app. I go back and forth with Walmart and Aldi now. The wait time at pick up is MUCH less at Aldi too, which I assume is due to the mark up.

I’m fortunate that I can shop at Aldi, Trader Joe’s, Food Lion, Walmart and Wegnans all within 5 miles of each other. I always start at Aldi. Wegmans is pricey but great for unique items for special recipe ingredients.

For a few years now, my father-in-law has taken off one weekday morning twice per month to drive 30-40 minutes into the nearest city (we live in the rural Great Plains) to hit Aldi, Trader Joe’s, Sam’s Club, and more recently Costco. The only major grocery store we have in our town is a Walmart Supercenter. I started going with him on those bimonthly mornings when I can, and the cost difference is substantial, and I do most of that shopping at Aldi. The gas ends up being paid for by what is saved on groceries. Also, concerning living in a rural area, things go out of stock at our Walmart and take a while to come back, often accompanied by a price hike (heavy whipping cream and eggs, for example). It’s so nice to know that I’ll more than likely find the item for a slightly cheaper price and better quality at Aldi. My family and I are moving this year to an area that has an Aldi in town, and we’re so excited :)
