Where To Locate A Meat Rabbitry On Your Homestead

Deciding where exactly to put your meat rabbitry on your land is more complicated than you might think. A lot of issues that people have with meat rabbits don't have much do with the rabbits themselves. The problems are with their setup. By taking everything into account before you build your infrastructure, you can make your life a lot easier in the long run.

I never thought of the proximity to cover determining predation. Putting yourself in the paws of coyotes, learning how they think. I like it.

Wow that is crazy! They reached out to me a few months ago and I wanted to test out their products before talking about them. So far I've been really impressed!

Thank you for sharing all this information, looking forward to future videos. I have basically no experience with raising livestock but I am going down the self sufficiency road and can see myself doing this. May start with a couple rabbits as pets to get some experience 😁 cheers from South London 👍🏻

Great video…it’s making me possibly rethink where I build my rabbitry. Our plan is to only have a buck and two does. I was thinking about building it on the back of our hay barn, which is just into our woods. We do have a new LGD, which I’m hoping will help keep predators away. She lives in the goat pen, which is about 25 feet from the back of the barn.

I imagine you'd be fine in most situations, especially with a LGD. Predators really only become a big problem when you have rabbits in tractors or colonies.

Just out of curiosity have you thought about building a water cart that you can fill up at your house, lug over to your rabbitry and have enough water to only have to take it back to refill once a week or so?

Good question. I should be able to string two hoses together without to much of a pressure drop. My automatic watered have a good sized tank so I usually only have to fill them once a week.

Can you put guttering on your barn and collect rainwater? I was wondering if that is safe for rabbits to drink.

Good question. If your roof is metal (and not painted with toxic types of paint) than yes. Otherwise no.
