I found my ficus in a store on a shelf in total darkness. The lady did not even know what kind of plant it was. She said she hadn’t watered it in 3 months but the plant was luscious and green. I bought it transplanted it gave it a good drink of water and put it in my bedroom with low light and it’s flourishing. It is doing well in low light.

Oh my grandma got me a ficus too. Is she doing alright without light? My room has only the lamp light.

Cool, that’s the kind of bansai I need one that thrives on low light cause I live in a four plex condo. Are there different species of ficus? Would be nice to have one that I can have in the winter time.

This only pertains to certain species. Some species of bonsai like 4k. Carmona for example needs at least 6 hrs of full sunlight every day.

Hey! leaves drooping happen due to lack of sunlight, If you're growing your bonsai indoors, place it near a window that receives plenty of bright, indirect sunlight. A south-facing window is usually ideal, as it provides the most light throughout the day.

Hey! Watering too often, while the tree is planted in a soil mixture that retains too much water, will lead to root-rot and the tree dropping its leaves. Make sure you only water when needed; when the soil gets slightly dry. Underwatering, or forgetting to water for several days, is a sure way to kill your tree.

I just got my bonsai today and I'm scared that it might die please tell me how to prepare a soil mix and when should I water the plant ?

Hey!The best potting soil mix for Bonsai plants is one that is well-draining yet still retains moisture. Watering should be done in such a way that you have to water your plant completely until you see water is leaking from bottom and next watering should be done when top layer of soil dries.

It says the lux is around 1900+ is this enough for the bonsai to live? Or should I try to find a place with real sun. ?

Actually this is ginseng ficus bonsai..which is grafted..... And the grafted ficus is ficus microcarpa

@@HadleyFlame I know this is 8 months old, but artificial light is fine. Plants will prefer the brighter white light of natural daylight bulbs, but others can work as well.

I'm not sure about you guys but my ficus thrives in direct sunlight from morning to sundown...
