This comeback was after NSW was given a try, after a blatant knock on. Former QLD greats were calling for Locky's head if he didn't win the series. QLD was on the brink of losing their 4th series in a row, then came that intercept....Locky went on to lift the shield, premiership trophy and tri nation trophy in 06....to me this game he showed the other QLD players how he won't give up on them. He seemed to elevate other players around him...to me his the goat, the ultimate clutch player.

Agreed. Jarryd Hayne had the highest ceiling of anyone I've seen, and of all traditional first-receiver halfbacks I've seen, I'd say Johns was the most complete package, aprticualrly in terms of inherent phsycial gifts. But no-one had a stronger combination of ceiling / prime / clutch / consistency and leadership like Lockyer. No-one. Of all the playmakers that come to mind, Lockyer was the best all-round footballer (2 Golden Boots in 2 totally different positions in 4 years). And of all the all-round footballers that come to mind, Lockyer was the best playmaker.

This is why I don't understand why people complain about biased Origin commentators, it's been like that forever. You have the main caller (Rabs VIP) and the 2 colour commentators (one QLD, one NSW) that basically call as knowledgeable fans of their state. And then one or two from each side on the sideline too. It just adds so much to the TV atmosphere.

As soon as he was out and Gillo got stuck on the wing Queensland’s attack became restricted and 1 dimensional and we couldn’t come back. It started with Brent Tate and ended with him.

I've always remembered this as one of the greatest origins I have ever watched. Because its the ending, you've missed alot of context why this game stands out. Nothing went QLDs way this game, and the really rub the salt in the wound, NSWs last try was as clear knock on, but video ref still gave the try. It was dumbfounding how they could get it wrong when it was so clear. As if the video ref pressed the wrong button. Even with these set backs, in those last 10 mins you see they never gave up, Thurston stepping up and providing a line break leading to tates try. Lockyer intercept try. Its because they didnt give up and they made it happen, even when the chips were down. Ironically, it was the beginning of the 9 straight QLD Dynasty. The mentality to stay in it and win. This was a champion team.

Theoretically NSW should actually always win, which is why Origin seems to always be about QLD. 3 times the player depth, the Daily Telegraph and SMH on side all the time pushing those cringeworthy narratives that so often spectacularly backfire...plus, NSW's superior depth means the Blues can can experiment with different game plans and strategies in anticipation of / in response to what QLD shows up with. QLD actually don't have that luxury, and what we see this year is a case in point. Maroons just don't have the cattle, so scorelines like the 2021 are no surprise really. Same logic with the Bledisloe - what makes the All Blacks so impressive is the fact that they should get trounced every time - yet we're the ones that are continually being trounced, lol.

You call that a dynasty? Please.. NSW won 23 years in a row. Now that's a dynasty. And they had less imports than any QLD side since SOO.

@@troystaunton2541 or 2 players is hardly stacked with Queenslanders. And Queensland still had more imports than NSW. Just like today. It's funny how you blokes count modern QLD rep sides with up to 8 imports as legit but don't recognise the NSW sides with 1 or 2. Very convenient. Not even logical. Inglis, Izzy, Thiaday and more were in the same team for years. Kerry Bousted played one year because of injury and it wasn't with Beeston. Beeston had been dropped by then. Those NSW sides had plenty of immortals making Beeston look good. Hardly our best players.

@@boganbob2708 I would love to see where that "23 years in a row" is on paper. Origin officially started 1st July 1982, with 2 experimental games the previous 2 years. QLD has won 22 series, NSW 16. There have also been 2 draws. I think you might actually be referring to IRL. Which wasn't State of Origin.

@@blaze7930 SOO is just rebranded rep footy for the TV audience. Before that you had to go to the game or listen to it on the radio. Same as today it was a selection run for the Australian team. Rep football between the two sides has been played since 1908. If you can only find results since 1980 then that is your problem. If you go into NSW headquarters you can have a look yourself at the trophies. It is also freely available online with the results and teams of every game. I wish the current side every success in matching their record again.

@@boganbob2708 I'm just playing with semantics. That 23 year dynasty was not SOO, so a 9 year dynasty (as the video is titled) is the current achievement for SOO. Anything else is just wishful thinking. Rebrand or not, it became a separate entity, and as such previous records can't be attributed to it.
