Honestly the low-ish quality (it’s not even that bad???) of these gives them so much heart. Like I’m from the far future even compared to when these are theoretically set and found a data key with the songs on it

Oh, I have sailed the midnight sea From Earth to Alpha VI Seen flame-jams on Aldebaran Met rocks that were alive But soon I came to realise As world to world I roam That nowhere in the galaxy Could really be my home So call the navigator Set the course and go We've stars and planets to explore My wild heart tells me so Beneath the metal decking I can hear the engines sigh And all I need is a mighty ship And a star to guide her by The nights are long between the stars And lonely too for me I wonder how I might've fared With home and family But the bonds of friendship I have formed Will last my lifetime true Security is not for me My dreams are all of you So call the navigator Set the course and go We've stars and planets to explore My wild heart tells me so Beneath the metal decking I can hear the engines sigh And all I need is a mighty ship And a star to guide her by I've seen a million beauties And I've known a million fears And life is what I've found between The laughter and the tears Still I will sail the last frontier Through worlds both tame and wild And marvel at their strangeness with The wonder of a child So call the navigator Set the course and go We've stars and planets to explore My wild heart tells me so Beneath the metal decking I can hear the engines sigh And all I need is a mighty ship And a star to guide her by And all I need is a mighty ship And a star to guide her by Yeah, all I need is a mighty ship And a star to guide her by

VirtualVikki I have only recently discovered filks... kinda shame, honestly. Even more 'cause as far as I know filking's not really a thing in my country (apparently there's at least one band that performs every year in one convention, but I've never been in that convention and anyway, apart from that one band... I haven't found much anything). A bit less than a year ago I heard the term "filk" for the first time. I was in a meeting of a group of Tolkien fans, and someone had found a bunch of LOTR-themed filks (in my first language) that were based on songs basically everyone knew. Then I didn't think about it much for over half a year, I mean it was fun singing something about war and death and nazguls to the melody of a cheery Christmas song, but I didn't think about it more. Then in August, in Worldcon, there were a few people (one from Germany, two from Britain or USA, I think) who explained what filking was, and then kept a filk circle every night for like last 3 hours the convention was open each day, one hour themed and two hours free. And I absolutely loved it and started looking for this stuff online...
