    France's 5 subs play for: Inter Milan x 2, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Bayern Munich. Ireland's best player tonight is a Luton reserve. That's 4 teams that could all easily go very far in the CL, while Luton will probably get relegated. Big gulf.

    Get used to never qualifying for anything for the next decade at least. Ireland had rode off the back of the Premier League for years and now that the premier league clubs have big money Irish players just don't break into the premier league clubs as much anymore. James Mc Clean is League 2 ffs. We need to fix our domestic league now and bring it up to modern standard if we don't ever wanna head back to the way things were before the Charlton era.

    Croatia is a real football country. Football is a minority sport in Ireland. If it wasn’t for the great dedicated officials and fans of the LOI clubs, who against all the odds, have kept professional football alive in Ireland, there wouldn’t be a league at all.

  • @warrensteamtalk

    @warrensteamtalk

    8 ай бұрын

    @@davidpryle3935 for me the issue it doesn't have top be like that. Croatia a small country with a population similar in size to Ireland, and Scotland have shown what can be done when grass roots football is organised properly, and coaching is done properly, it saddens me when I think of the commitment, and dedication that all those amazing volunteers(like those at St Kevins for example) are showing in helping football in Ireland without the appropriate tools, and support. Stephen Kenny for me isn't the main problem but he is a symptom of a bigger problem i.e. The FAI. Look at what the IRFU have managed to achieve, and Rugby Union is seen as a foreign sport in Ireland is it not.

  • @davidpryle3935

    @davidpryle3935

    @@warrensteamtalk You’ve completely missed my point. Unlike rugby, football is a truly global game. For a small country to be a power in football, football must be overwhelmingly the dominant field sport in that country. That is clearly not the case in Ireland. That of course is the choice of the Irish people, and a choice they are fully entitled to make. But on the other hand, they then cannot turn around and expect a top class international football team to magically appear from nowhere. The FAI are far from perfect, but blaming them for the choices the Irish people make, amounts to nothing more than scapegoating.

    Ireland used to rely on the English-born players who were qualified for Ireland through the granny-rule (like Rice and Grealish) to bring up the standard of the team. Those kind of players used to be not good enough to play for England so they opted for Ireland as a 2nd choice. Andy Townsend and Matt Holland were prime examples of those type of players. That avenue is now largely closed off with England hoovering up all available quality players. We also can't send players over to England now until 18yo due to Brexit. Chickens are coming home to roost for the FAI and all those idiots running off to England to support EPL teams instead of supporting and hence funding their local LOI soccer teams and their academies. Ireland's soccer team is srewed for generations to come!!!!

    I'd take not qualifying and trying to play decent football than not qualifying playing huff football, irish pundits and fans are deluded the gulf we are trying to overcome from decades of mismanagement by the fai is fucking massive! It will not be fixed quick, kenny has brought players through at a young age that no previous manager would and that will benefit us. Kenny might not be the man to guide us to qualifying for tournaments but he deserves alot of respect for what hes done. Fans engage with the Ireland team again. Listening to Sadler is embarrassing a 2 bit lower league player that has no right talking about football at an international level, and didi that just needs a pay check.

    Who would the FAI replace him with? Huff ball is dead and gone, so who to replace him and who would want to take it is a head scratcher? I would have said previously Carsley but I'd doubt it now. I do think he would make a very good director at the FAI someone who cares as much as him over the years making sure players were looked after through the age groups and pathways to senior team and wed have the likes of Rice, Grealish playing for Ireland now. Prime example is Evan Ferguson, England must be kicking themselves there.

I don't really know who we could bring in out of all the possible outcomes but if theres a decent option out there then get rid of Kenny and bring him in. The manager isn't totally at fault because the players do have to take plenty of responsability but he's had more than enough time with the group and we've hardly improved from the time he took over to now. The fai have questions to answer Kenny making the massive step from managing Dundalk fc in league of Ireland to the highest paid job in Irish football is too big a job for Stephen Kenny he has got plenty of chances now let him go grassroots football has got to improve and the fai at the top need to wake up and improve the standard of football in Ireland. Every teams have their own weaknesses & strengths, Ireland's weakness is due to lack of technically gifted players, especially nowadays, it's strength is his fighting spirit & heart, so i think ireland should play direct and counter attacking football, for example, just like the way championship teams play against premier league giants, sometimes they beat these big clubs in fa cup or carabao cup. So I think ireland should use his strength to improve. Play with heart & passion. Remember Barcelona beat Liverpool 3-0, and in 2nd leg liverpool win 4-0, how ? Because Liverpool had more passion & spirit than Barcelona on that day even if technically Liverpool was inferior to Barca. Ireland will need a man with passion to lead the team, that's the only way to help the players to aim higher mentally & feel as if they should fight for something. Need to get that passion back.
