I love the magical, mystical fairytale-like element in your paintings. Please follow your heart, and don’t worry if you aren’t “perfect.” That’s a constraining, impossible goal anyway. As to the mixed media question, I have totally fallen in love with the joy of watercolor, and personally would prefer that you stick to that medium, with maybe a touch of gouache if called for.

Thank you for sharing. This is the first video of yours I have viewed. Your journals feel very special and personal. Your women are beautiful. Where do you find inspiration for their faces? I'm not a watercolor purist or any art material purist. Perhaps being so new to the world of creativity, I haven't found my sweet spot. Peace.

Hello, Stacy and thank you. I usually find photos on Pinterest or Unsplash and I end up mostly using them as reference for light and shadow. Indeed , by the end, the features don’t resemble the photo anymore. In most cases I am not looking for resemblance unless I am painting someone specific or a commission. I love that you’re not a purist! Maybe watercolour can become your sweet spot. 🌈

My whole life I followed the rules no black and white for watercolors, no masking fluid, reserve the white of the paper but this year I finally don't care and I'm using gouache and pen and ink and pencils and many many styles and subjects I've never done and frankly it's quite freeing and much more surprising in the results.

Yes, it does. There are so many wonderful artists that do sketchbook tours that are beautiful and I literally have to search and search to find them, because the same 2 or 3 pop up every time I look. 😕

Great video. My question to you is: why be a watercolor purist as you say when there is so much artistery to explore? So much type of paints? So much fun to be experience. 😊

Exactly. My only point is that I don’t want to lose the transparency of watercolour. But using gouache or acrylic to create extra elements in a piece or define certain areas, why the heck not, right? 😀

Anxiety, my girl? one of those pictures that I see that you did before things come to fruition are all pieces of art and I would love to hang one of them on my wall!! we put too much emphasis on what we think that things should look like, and what other people think they should look like because beauties in the eye of the beholder.
