A decade ago I was on a cross country bicycle tour. I was in Greenville, SC waiting for a train. It was about 2am, and I was talking too another man. He was an artist who showed in NYC, and he described where he lived - not far from the Appalachian Trial, which I had thru hiked a few times. I asked him if he lived near Pete Seeger. He told me that he was his neighbor. He also told me that Toshi, Pete's wife, had just passed. Half a year later, I am in a hostel in Harpers Ferry, WV, an hour by train from DC. There is a young Japanese American woman there. She just graduated college and took a job with the Smithsonian. Her first assignment? A display honoring Pete, who she told me just passed. I've marched with Joan, sung many of Pete's songs around the campfire. People like those two helped put meaning to my life. (Edit) I just tried singing this a few minutes ago. I am in a tent in the middle of the desert, all alone, on another bicycle tour. I couldn't finish the last verse. I have hiked over 26,000 miles. On the long trails I have met many veterans trying to walk off their PTSD. They open up to me because I am a vet. But I enlisted shortly after Vietnam. I grew up listening to body counts on the radio every morning, and hoping that one of them wasn't my cousin, or the brother of one of my friends. So I enlisted to do my time before the next war. I was in essence a draft dodger. So while I was in, most everyone that out ranked me was in Nam. But even though they were hurting, they held it all in. But times are changing. Vets are starting to open up, but mostly to other enlisted vets. They are hurting. And some I have met I fear will join the all to many who have killed themselves. You see, it is not so much battle fatigue that takes the lives of our vets, but the fact that they cannot cope with the fact that they killed someone. All I am saying, is give peace a chance.

Joan Baez, such a pure voice, singing this beautiful song by Pete Seeger. As we remember the young men in uniform and women, all of them on this Special Day of Remembrance. We know where all the flowers are gone and indeed,,we ask, when will we ever learn.💐 Lest we forget..

We had entered a small Church in the E. Village after a Nam protest in N.Y.C. and in the center of that sacred site stood Joan Baez and Country Joe singing anti war songs. That was in the mid 50's and still etched in my brain. I have on numerous occasions sent in requests to The Kennedy Center asking for their recognition of this National Treasure. Finally ....

How can you keep the welling of your chest from exploding with emotions while listening to the power expressed by Joan Baez as she shares every morsel with each of us. STOP!! Don't listen just once, but play it again and again. Satisfy your soul.....

Came here after watching her 2020 tribute to first responders on her diamondsandrustpro youtube channel. No one else could sing like this in their 50s after singing for nearly 35 years. She is legend. And now for 79, she still sounds pretty damn good. Pete Seeger also legend.

The 60s were full of these types of songs. Imagine where the Country imported nothing and Made Everything you see or wear or could ever think of.? That was the sixties. Imagine every Muscle car in Wild Orange, Purple, Sky blue , Midnight Black and more Chrome to polish on Everything. Wish I could go back. RH DSD
