Where Do Birds Sleep?

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Birds need sleep like other living animals. Where birds sleep depends greatly on the lifestyle they live.
Mark McKellar is a wildlife biologist with over 35 years of bird study experience. He has a degree in Fish and Wildlife Sciences from North Carolina State University and has worked for the Department of the Army, the Wildlife Departments of North Carolina and Missouri. He ran nature centers for many years in Missouri and Pennsylvania before buying the Backyard Bird Center in the Northland area of Kansas City. Mark has led hundreds of bird hikes both locally and abroad. He has taught classes about birds and other wildlife to groups of all ages and brings that knowledge to the customers of his retail business every day. I was at my parents house a few years ago. They have some woods on their property that was being visited by turkeys. I walked into the woods one fall night and I looked up and there were at least 30 of them all sitting up in the tree tops. I made a noise and they all took off. Had no idea they slept up that high.

That they do! I’ve had the wits scared out of me by a group taking off from a tree at sunrise one morning. Big noise

Thank you... I wanna know that There is millions of birds I see flying in the sky but I rarely see any dead body of any bird... So Where do they die?? I mean at which place... It's weird question though 😅

Truth is there are loads of scavengers out there that get to bodies of dead animals quickly. Mice, rats, raccoons and opossums just to name a few. Nothing goes to waste in nature.

Hello, I live in Northern California and I’m just started backyard birding. What seed mix would be best for my region/area. Thank you so much!

I would stick with the simple rule of seeds instead of grains, so sunflower, safflower and peanuts are great. Avoid mixes with lots of millet, milo, cracked corn and other junk fillers. This may help: kzread.info/dash/bejne/i5mGpdawe7C8ndo.html

If birds are locked on a tree limb when they sleep, wouldn’t that keep an owl from snatching them?

  • @MarksBackyardBirds

No. When the owl snatches the bird the weight is lifted off of their feet and that unlocks the tendon.
