Billy Mccoy dies off screen but they show his body being buried. His mute companion watches. It takes place right after his last scene where he's calling for the nurse looking for his blanket. Very next shot we see a body wrapped in the same blanket being buries.

Great analysis. I think Dr. Oakes heads back to Kansas City a little later though, after Klein and the missile silo operator arrive in Lawrence. I remember a scene where the woman doctor (JoBeth Williams) treats the silo operator. Dr. Oakes is still in Lawrence and only leaves after finding out the other doctor died.

My take on the first nuclear explosion that causes an EMP. The Soviets would have fired, submarine launched, ballistic missiles At the most valuable time, sensitive targets. One of them would’ve certainly been a high altitude large yield detonation in space designed to disrupt our military forces prior to the arrival of the land-based ICBMs that you see exploding over Kansas City subsequently.

The missiles based out of Whiteman (not Whitman) were operational in 1983 when this movie was made. They were decommissioned after the Start 2 treaty went into effect in the early 90s

The sad part is, they never show you the final result of who died immediately, and then who died down the road years or decades later from the from the radiation and the sad part is some stayed in their bases for quite some time and a lot of it decayed to a whole lot safer levels will should fair a lot better in comparison to those who went outside weeksupon weeks later, no matter what you’re going to have some level of radiation smacking me in the face and

During the explosion scenes, they clearly show several of the film's cast members being vaporized. I remember the farm family trying to escape in their truck, Bruce, the boyfriend, the doctor's wife and daughter, and the airman's wife and son getting vaporized to name just a few. Carefully rewatch the attack segment and you will see who died immediately.

Reason you can’t find the missle fields in/around Whiteman is that they are now decommissioned. They were phased out when the B2 Bombers went operational there.

Thanks for this. May i be honest? Threads is far superior to this in every way. And it was made on a budget of 100k. TDA was 5 million US (I believe) Smashing vid Ant p

The Day After is the one with the pop culture following though...over 100 million Americans watched ABC that night.
