My girls layed eggs all winter long with a heat lamp...now spring summer here in NC food is great water plenty treats of lentils and beans no new chickens they are maybe 2 years old...only thing that has changed I turned the heat light off. I have bought some LED red lights that do NOT produce heat and I installed a shop fan in the coop. If they do not lay after this idk what to do. I have oyster shell flakes coming I have noticed they are eating their eggs. After Oyster shells, red light, deworming, fan, idk what else to do to get eggs.

Also coccidiosis can affect older birds. I am feeding my birds meat and some game bird food mixed in their layer feed too. Watch the cheaper food it has messed with my hens. Great video. Thank you

My chickens are 33 weeks old and have not laid an egg yet. They are still on crumbles and I feed them 3 scrambled eggs every day.

Is there a way to get them to use the nesting boxes?? Mine dug a hole in a corner of the coop and only lay on the ground. I don’t mind it, but it doesn’t get the eggs dirty and it’s not as convenient. If it makes them happy then that’s fine, just wanted to try to get them to use the boxes though for convenience lol

I have a similar issue. I think my husband put the nesting boxes up too high, not making the same mistake in the new coop that has a winterized spot for them to get out in the cold months. I thought they had stopped laying for a couple days but saw a couple coming out of our screen porch where the husband left door open and was storing straw. 14 eggs were under his pizza oven where some straw had fallen. apparently they found it more appealing than the pine bedding I guess? who knows, they do their own thing I guess.

Mine did the same after I integrated them with the older hens. She always used the box before.

My birds lay in the winter for some reason. But if they don't get a break, they could become eggbound and die

One more: She laying her eggs somewhere else. I found one yesterday in a corner outside in the mud. She’s never done that before. Finding it was just luck on my part.

I'm not sure that the advice is relevant for non-commercial owners. A hen will lay around 600-650 eggs in her lifetime, depending on the breed. Don't force them to lay more eggs and they will keep laying eggs well into their late years. It's very similar to women, that are basically born with all of their eggs, no new are ever produced.
