Mortius, I just wanted to say Thank You for putting this lovely video out for us while you have so much going on with the move. Please do whatever works for you at this time, if you need to go down to one video or if you need to take some time away while you deal with the move. Im so sorry that the move isnt going well, if I had the ability to help out i would, all i can offer is positive vibes and hope that everything works out soon. As for this Voiceplay song, i have to admit that its grown on me. I wasnt sure what i would think of this song cause i have no connection to the song and all i knew was that it was like a teenage break up song. And ive kind of fallen out of that style song once i left my mid twenties. I also wasnt aware that they sampled another song in there until a reactor mentioned it, they did it so well that it felt like it was part of the first song. But I always end up loving anything Voiceplay does, they can make songs i have no interest in interesting and they always sound great even if im not in love with the song itself.

I didn't like this song, but Voiceplay has the power to make me change my mind. Thanks to you Mortius, for teaching me to appreciate a cappella music in a more technical way. And I go on to leave my love to Mason, simply for being the best 😍.

That’s how I felt about Shenandoah. I’d never heard of it before, so I looked up original recordings. They did absolutely nothing for me. But Geoff’s cover breathed new life into it.

I wasn’t sure about this one at first, but the more I hear it the more I like it. One thing that helps (and this is true for all their videos) much of the enjoyment comes from always being able to understand the words. I rarely have to turn on captions, which - lets face it - aren’t always too accurate anyway. They make great music, but a large part of that is having a real feeling for the words and spirit of the piece. This selection is a great palate cleanser after the last couple of heavier pieces they’ve done. I hope all goes well for you, but if you’re thinking of videos per week it sounds like it may be a prolonged situation. My thoughts will be with you.

Here's a little assistance for your next Hotel Reaction. First, to assist the audio quality, use some audio dampeners to aid your recording. Use the hotel to reverb to your advantage, but use something under your microphone to aid in your recording. Unless you are doing VO work, and have to have peak audio crispness, this should do wonders on your recording, no matter if your AC is blasting or a microwave is whiring to make a bit of hot tea. The best audio dampeners are the hotel pillows and towels, but it would helpful to use your dirty laundry bag as it'll be sitting near your feet to help with the audio.

I've read that Voiceplay felt that if you were going to sing a song about teen angst, who better to help sing it that a teen? I thought that Adriana did a great job with this and Cesar was terrific as a supportive friend backing her up on all the crap she was going through. :) Fun reaction and I hope things get better!

i had trouble hearing the lyrics even in this cover but I thik I've worked out why. I'm old and when I hear words stressed on the "wrong" syllable it just doesn't compute in my brain, and it happens a few times in this song. However having see the lyrics, and seen the video with closed captions I can now make it out. Her voice, Layne going crazy , Cesar's expressions.... Thanks from commenting on Cesar's expressions , most never mentions them and I find him so cute.

I think I read in a comment that Tony Wakim of PattyProduction was responsible for those outfits, you'll have to reach out to him for it's origin. Also that it was meant for Cesar but Layne snagged it first. Sincerely hope your problems sort themselves out sooner than later. Think we viewers will be content with what you can send our way. Glad to see this video.

According to the credits, it was arranged by Rob Dietz. Layne/Eli/Tony are listed for direction, and someone else did the video editing. Wonder what Cesar wanted to do?

I didn't know this song, probably because I'm old and anything to do with teen angst is waayy behind me! So I gave the original a listen before VP's rendition and unsurprisingly, I prefer VP's version! They just have a way of tweaking a song and writing such wonderful harmonies (not to mention their fantastic voices) that always appeals to me, no matter the genre, so I ended up really liking this! The notes and phrasing used are identical to "I need you baby..." from Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons' "I Love You Baby" which took on new life for younger generations because of Jersey Boys. Considering the frustrated nature of both songs... appropriate.

Had never heard the original of either song until VP released this. I'm a bit past teenage angst. ::cough:: But as usual, VP made it awesome. They filmed in a vacant store in the same mall as Pattycake Studio. Tony was there for wardrobe and co-directing. Fun bit: there's a clip of Adriana's mom sweeping ... using the same red broom Geoff danced with in Way Down.

Mortius, I have to say that when I heard Misery Business get incorporated, I was absolutely ecstatic. I couldn't contain my excitement and kind of squealed from happiness. It is such a nice cover and probably one of my favorites. Also, I hope that Ella is doing okay. That sweet pup is probably confused with the move. this is a fun one! love all the sass! and I love Cesar air-quoting "EMOTIONAL". like, I'm sure I'm being "too emotional". I also adore his mortified gasp at "couple weeks". high five, Cesar! although I have to say, that little harmony just before "like a damn sociopath" is driving me slightly crazy, because everyone, including Geoff, is in the higher register there. and it's bugging the heck out of me that I can't pick him out! that man isn't fair, I tell you!

Writing a comment for engagement

I've reached the age where I've become, essentially, a hermit. The Pandemic contributed heavily to this, as I retired the same month the Pandemic started being CALLED "the Pandemic" (March, 2020) and suddenly found myself considerably more confined to home that I had anticipated. So I spend a LOT of time playing on my computer and somewhere along the line I discovered PTX, VoicePlay and Reaction Videos. And have now acquired a brand new addiction. There is a circle of reactors that I listen to habitually, around a dozen or so, and you are FIRMLY in the top three. Possibly the top, as I have listened to a few of your reactions several times, for the sheer joy of your nerdgasms. I wish I could help you financially, but ... "fixed income" and all that. Plus, if I could become a Patron of the Arts, I'd be spending a few thousand dollars a month, as there are quite a number of deserving artists I love, from music to webcomics to theater to vloggers. This would make it difficult to buy food - especially when my typical grocery run that cost $80 last year now costs $140 or more... I have never heard this song, or the artist in question, and did go look for the original video just to compare, and frankly, didn't like it. The whole cheerleader choice was a mistake (in my opinion), because the singer has clearly never actually BEEN one and has no clue how one moves (or smiles). Also, there was not a single moment I believed she'd been wounded, but I really found it easy to see how resentful she was. I greatly preferred the emotional portrayal in the VP video. Still angry, but hurt, too.

Thank you Mortius. You have proven exactly why people like your videos. It isn't about the equipment, or even the video quality, it is about how you react and how you analyze the songs. You have a way of bringing a deeper understanding of music to everyone who watches. My 6 year old son, who loves acapella music, enjoys every video you post and you have given him (and myself) so much joy in each of them. I'm not in a place to support right now, but will do so when I can. When things get tough remember, what you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.

I had never heard this, well since I'm disabled my husband dies the school run ect. I heard the voiceplay version 1st and was so impressed, I then downloaded both theirs and Olivias original. When you hear them next to each other I find the voiceplay one sounds fuller. Laugh was I was in car with my almost 16yr old daughter , who dispares of me liking voiceplay lol, the original came on my mix and she was like oh where did you hear this as its one of my favorites. She wasn't happy when I told her it was via voiceplay lol. Also in the behind the scenes footage cesar was in the flamingo shirt and they made him swap with layne lol.

It's grown on me. The first listen brought out a WHAT? Now I like it.

it wasn't my favourite, but i'm listening it on the repeat and it's definitely working it way up the list. it might not be the most theatrical or techniqually taxing song they've ever done, but it is definitely one of the more easier going and plain old fun songs they done in the while.

I actually like the effect you had on the headphones, even if it wasn't intentional. When I first heard the original song it did remind me of like a very pop version of Paramore. While this isn't a top ten in my opinion, because it sounds like the female singer is screaming in my ear, I do like the background vocals.

Not my favourite but that's a good thing in my opinion . My favourites are the ones that do alot of cool a capella things whereas this is my traditional to the original. And for stuff that's super a capella I find it's not a song that's in my playlist or one I will play loud on speakers n stuff whereas something like this I can get in the car and play loud or have a song like this in my playlist . I love there cool arrangements but there not playlist songs in my opinion which is why I love that voiceplay gives a mix of playlist songs and new cool remixed a capella songs .

I'm not a fan of the original. I love this version, the emotion, attitude and angst come through really well.

I agree with you. When they cover something I haven’t heard before (I am very old) I always go back to check out the original. And the original was fine - it’s not some thing I would listen to all the time but it was I can see where it has a lot of appeal. But I just didn’t connect with it the way I do with the things VP does. I think that for me a lot of it is the complexity. I have always been at best a casual listener of music. But over the last few years, after listening to VoicePlay I listen a lot more attentively and all those layers is what brings at home for me.

Don't know the original artist, never heard the song before, cause I'm an old woman and don't listen to much current music. However, I love Voiceplay, together and individually. It took me a couple of times and now I love this piece as well. Really enjoyed your reaction! Hope all goes well for you, Mortius!

I wish I could help you but I'm on a limited income and budget. I've been in your situation. I feel for you. 1998-2000 I lived in the woods. Then a year and half ago my sister, her son and I were evicted from our home. I had to stay in a hotel for a couple weeks. That's when my daughter moved me from ft Myers fl to Memphis tn with her.
