i think you need to go deep in the late 70s early 80s soul/R&B because it was just sooo funky but the music is so so good back then... its real and authentic and the instruments are so vivid during your listening. keep at it... i want to follow more of your stuff... make sure you show your humorous expressions and one-liners... its hilarious but a big plus!

Make That Move was released as the second single from Shalamar's 1980 album: Three For Love. It was written by Kevin Spencer, Ricky Smith and William Shelby. It was produced by Leon Sylvers III. The song reached #60 on the Hot 100 and #6 on the R&B chart. This live performance is from the 1981 Rhythm & Blues Awards show (which turned into The Soul Train Music Awards in 1987). Shalamar Info 📰: Shalamar was originally a Disco driven group created in 1977 by Soul Train booking agent Dick Griffey & Soul Train show creator/producer Don Cornelius and signed to their record label SOLAR (Sound Of Los Angeles Records). As noted in the British Hit Singles & Albums, they were regarded as fashion icons and trendsetters, and helped to introduce "body-popping" to the United Kingdom. Their name was created by Dick Griffey. Both Jody Watley & Jeffery Daniel were Soul Train dancers. Also, Jody Watley & Jeffrey Daniel dated each other during their Soul Train & Shalamar years before breaking up in 1980. As well as, Jeffrey Daniel was married to Stephanie Mills from 1980-83. The first hit credited to Shalamar was the 1977 song: "Uptown Festival", which was recorded at Ike & Tina Turner's studio Bolic Sound in 1976. It was released on Soul Train Records. Its success inspired both Dick Griffey and Don Cornelius to replace session singers with popular Soul Train dancers Jody Watley and Jeffrey Daniel, to join original Shalamar lead singer Gary Mumford. Gerald Brown took over the spot vacated by Gary Mumford for the group's second album in 1978: Disco Gardens, which featured the hit song: "Take That To The Bank". After conflicts over lack of payment from Dick Griffey and the SOLAR record label, Gerald Brown left the group. Howard Hewett replaced Brown in 1979. The group was joined up with music producer Leon Sylvers III in 1979, signed with SOLAR, and scored a US million seller with the song: "The Second Time Around". Shalamar had a number of Billboard chart hits as a group with Howard Hewett as the lead singer. The "classic" Shalamar group line-up consisting of: Howard Hewett, Jody Watley and Jeffrey Daniel would be its most successful one. The classic Shalamar line-up of Howard Hewett, Jody Watley and Jeffrey Daniel scored a total of four gold albums: Big Fun (1979); Three For Love (1980) which eventually went Platinum; Friends (1982) which also went Platinum and The Look (1983). In the UK, Shalamar had a string of hits songs including: "Take That To The Bank" (1978), "I Owe You One" (1980) and songs from their 1982 Friends album: "I Can Make You Feel Good" (1982), "A Night To Remember", "There It Is" and the title track "Friends". The Friends album, which crossed the genres of Pop, Disco and Soul, was also a big seller in the UK in 1982. The group's record sales in the UK increased when Jeffrey Daniel demonstrated his body-popping dancing skills on BBC Television's music program: Top Of The Pops, which had premiered the moonwalk on television for the first time. Michael Jackson was a fan of Shalamar, particularly Jeffrey Daniel and his dance moves, after watching him dance on Soul Train. Michael Jackson and Jefrey Daniel met afterward, and Michael Jackson took his then 12-year-old sister Janet Jackson to watch Shalamar perform at Disneyland. Jeffrey Daniel and Michael Jackson co-choreographed Michael Jackson's "Bad" and "Smooth Criminal" videos in 1987. In 1983, after recording and prior to the release of the group's album: The Look, both Jody Watley & Jeffrey Daniel left Shalamar due to personality conflicts within the group as well as money issues with Dick Griffey (SOLAR). Although the group's album: The Look, wasn't as successful as their album: Friends, had been the previous year, it still yielded a number of hit singles in the UK, including: "Disappearing Act", the Grammy-nominated "Dead Giveaway" And "Over and Over", and featured more of a New Wave/Synth-Pop sound than previous Shalamar albums. Micki Free and Delisa Davis would replace Jeffrey Daniel and Jody Watley in the group for the group's 1984 album: Heartbreak. Shalamar reached #17 on the Billboard Hot 100 with the single: "Dancing In The Sheets", which was also featured on the 1984 Footloose movie soundtrack album. Shalamar also contributed the song: "Don't Get Stopped In Beverly Hills", to the 1984 Beverly Hills Cop movie soundtrack, which won the 1985 Grammy Award for Best Album of Original Score Written for a Motion Picture or Television Special. Both songs: "Dancing In The Sheets" and "Don't Get Stopped In Beverly Hills", were included on Shalamar's eighth album: Heartbreak, which was released in November 1984 and went gold. Howard Hewett departed the group in 1985 to begin a solo career. Both Howard Hewett & Jody Watley had very successful careers as a solo artists after leaving Shalamar. Micki Free also had some success post Shalamar as a solo artists and in other bands. Sydney Justin took over as lead vocalist for Shalamar's 1987 album: Circumstantial Evidence, which was co-produced by Babyface and LA Reid. Shalamar's 1990 album: Wake Up, which featured a New Jack Swing sound was the group's final album before the group: Micki Free, Delisa Davis and Sidney Justin, was disbanded by the SOLAR record label. As of July 2018, Carrie Lucas and Carolyn Griffey, wife and daughter of Shalamar creator and SOLOAR Records owner Dick Griffey, officially own all Shalamar licensing across the 28 countries of Europe. Carolyn Griffey once challenged Jody Watley's trademark of Shalamar in the United States, claiming that she (Carolyn Griffey) was the sole owner of the name. Jody Watley countered, and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board ruled in her favor, saying that the petitioner (Carolyn Griffey) never submitted evidence of her claims. Jody Watley now owns the Shalamar trademark in the United States. Shalamar was featured in a 2019 episode of the TV One series: Unsung, in which Jody Watley, Jeffrey Daniel & Howard Hewett shared their stories about the group's creation, the lack of payments & royalties from SOLAR, success, egos & the breakup of the classic group lineup. Dick Griffey, Micki Free, Delisa Davis & Sidney Justin were also interviewed for the episode. Shalamar still performs their music live on stage in America and around the world with a group line-up consisting of: Howard Hewett, Jeffrey Daniel and Carolyn Griffey.
