Where did I go wrong - BeeKeeping - Why am I getting stung

A beekeeper split his hive and now the bees are really mean. He got stung several times. I tell beginners to be sure and wear protection.

    When you crack open the lid, you have to rigorously shake the bee hive, and show the bees who's boss. Then, they won't sting you.

    Hi, as a third year bee keeper from little old sussex England . I would like to say your thankyou for your informative down to earth videos. Your love of bee keeping spills out a vast knowledge that gives a clear message to over come the problems accrued in the learning of a great pass time. Ps, primitive knowledge wins through. Best wishes Tim Willett.

    Some materials will burn hotter then others,that will make the smoke hotter. That is why I like to use pine needles the smoke is a cool smoke.I like to test the smoke on my arm to see just how for to keep the smoker from the bees if you get the smoker to close to the bees and put hot smoke on them it will also make them mad.

    Jute or duet wool sack washed well and rinsed 3 times cut into squares wrap green pine needles up into a roll. Will be difficult to light but lasts long time, use old burnt end of previous roll to start new roll. Light the black charred jute put in smoker put new roll on top and start puffin. If your pine needles dry out its still ok but wrapped up tightly in jute so it's well packed in like a brick the tighter the better. As soon as you can fit another roll in do it but you constantly got to open smoker and push the wad down so it lasts longer. Keeping it full keeps it cool.

    Mr. Durham we have just gotten into beekeeping this year and I have greatly appreciated your videos as they have helped more than you could imagine. But in the past week our Russian queen has either died or gone missing. Their are no new eggs and they have 2 queen cells and are in the process of making a third. We received the bees in the latter part of April and we are located in Texas and as I'm sure you have heard it's like the great flood over here; so what should we do now, will the bees make it? And also would the wet weather have anything to do with it?(The hive is elevated from the ground)

  • @WallsBeeMan

    @WallsBeeMan

    You question is a tough one kind of. Assuming it is honey bees getting after your children. When you go into the hive, do you get the impression they are mean then ? If your colony is aggressive/mean, then you have 2 choices, move them further or requeen. Mean bees don't let you have as much fun as gentle bees. Same thing applies to a Wife.

    Well hell, it sounds like you're getting it on more than I am and I'm close to half your age. I'm not married either, go figure! Boy I tell you, something gone horribly wrong... Anyhow, when does happen, I make it count. I enjoyed your video on Mole Control, I even added the link to my Facebook Page. What a hoot. I followed your advice about making "The Sure Thing Split" and they sure did take to their new queen. I'm surprised more beekeepers don't use your method. I hope to see more beekeeping videos. Perhaps you could do one on "What should a hive look like in the Winter time" or something on "wax moths". Have a good day Tim.
