    I have a coworker like this. His mom is also one of my coworkers. Anything that requires any thought, he freezes or panics if his mom isn't there to give him the answer. Though one time, he was about to answer, and his mom answered for him, contradicting what he was about to say, then she got upset when I tried to point out that he should be allowed to answer, so I guess I can't blame him entirely for it.

    Over-dependance often stems from parent who don't allow or snub out any chance of independance at an early age. I was highly independant at an early age when living with my narcissistic mother, but developed over-dependance when coddled by my father.

    Ngl, when I have to give information and my mum is there, this is generally what happens. I'm quite quiet, and sometimes have anxiety, but so many times I open my mouth and she straight answers for me, so I end up just closing my mouth and looking away again. After the first few questions I'm kinda like "idk what you're looking at me for, this is your interview." Then I'll actually get a chance to answer and it'll be some detail I don't remember like where we lived when I was two and I end up having to ask her anyway. Like, thanks for telling the doctor about my mental health, now could you tell me if I ever got this vaccine as a kid or not? Idk, it kinda gets to a point where I don't want to talk in front of her, but there are other reasons for that too. I'm never sure if I'm supposed to be the one giving the waiter my order though o-o

  • @AmySkribble

    @AmySkribble

    Exactly. This comes from children that weren't allowed to talk for themselves, because they'd always get in trouble, so they grew up always having to make sure it's okay to talk.

  • @udontevenwannaknowbruv

    @udontevenwannaknowbruv

    6 ай бұрын

    @@artywolveWtf yes you are supposed to give your order yourself to the waiter, you should not become dependent off of anyone, how are you going to live the rest of your life? Just call your mom for any detail? If you want to remember those details, I suggest you write it down in a little notebook that you reserve especially for those things and keep it in your bag or at least write it down in your phone’s notes app. Do you know your bloodtype, allergies, what’s your health insurance etc. There are some things you should learn babes and sorry I didn’t mean to sound condescending 😂 It’s just that some parents out there, have this problematic relationship with their children called ‘parent codependency’. It’s when they deliberately want their children to stay dependent of off them and/or be excessively controlling over them in fear of being abandoned by them. It’s not healthy if you’re an adult. Because you can find yourself in an abusive and controlling relationship with a romantic partner as the way he/she will treat you, will feel familiar because your mother treated you like that.

    Omg this is hilarious! I’m totally the opposite. I hated when my mom would answer for me as a child and when she tries to do it now it leaves me completely flabbergasted. 😂 My son….he was terrified to talk to anyone while he was growing up. I was his voice. Then; at 20 years old, he joined the Army. Needless to say, I am no longer his “anxiety while in public interpreter”. 😂😂😂

    A month after I turned 18 I went to the eye doctor on my own, the attendant said it was refreshing to see someone so young being so independent. She thought I was 16 until looking at my records, I just filled out my forms and information then paid the bill.

    When I was 17 I attended a doctor's appointment on my own. The doctor lectured me that my guardian should be attending the appointments with me since I was still a minor. I smiled and nodded, since I was going to turn 18 before out next appointment!
