She also got me bedside tables with storage so I would have lots of space for all my stuff. It helped me learn to organize my room and it made it look so nice when it was clean, which encouraged me to clean my room and make it look nice. I used to do this as a child too. Then when my parents kept buying me stuff they'd later yell at me for having, to keep my room clean, I hauled it up to the attic where they violently threw it away as trash from the window to a dumpster in the driveway. The same stuff they bought for me to prove they loved me because that's how they showed it. I now have a few things left that prove my parents love which can easily be lost or broken and barely any good memories of my parents now that they passed from obesity related cancer. Don't prove your love with items, don't spoil your kids with materialism, don't treat items as the end all be all. Be there to make good memories, because that is all they will really have in the end.

Not to mention, I feel like if you're going to give your kids a separate bedroom, you might as well allow it to be their own separate sacred place that they learn how to manage themselves. I know it might seem like they will never be interested in cleaning it up no matter how dangerously messy it gets, but if you never ever inquire about forcing them to clean up their space, they might eventually actually pick it up themselves, and doing things in the closet, is actually really great. So, it's not organized, but a parent at least must acknowledge that they put it in a place.

I don't know about you or anyone else, but that's why I said what I said, because I never had a sense of cleanliness because cleanliness was forced upon me as a child, as with most children. A child will naturally develop a sense of cleanliness and organization, and I think giving them a separate space to dictate what they do in it is actually great developmentally, so they can eventually learn how to manage things on their own in their own home years later. Again, I don't know about you, but this is based off of my own experience.

Then we did putting things away together, now we have a time of the day where we all stop and clean together for an hour before bed. This way we aren't treating them like servants and they know how to care for themselves. Shelves, bins and buckets are essential to ending clean up fights.

I wouldn’t mind that honestly, maybe add a shelf or have her just put it in seperate piles to be more convenient or just less crowded but, don’t get the fuss about it.

My mom encouraged this. Mostly because she was lazy and is to busy to help or reward us for doing it. We dont keep it a mess, just for 3-4 days. But we have alot of room and keep most our stuff organized in there anyways.

oml i read this totally wrong i was about to go off cause i thought you said that mothers are lazy and that you should be rewarded for doing chores but yeah it isn't like the room stays a mess it will be cleaned there are just so much more interesting things to do when you're a kid

In my house, the closet doesn't count. If it has a door that mostly stays closed, then I don't worry about it.
