WHEN WILL THEY LEARN? SWING WIDE OR DROP AND CALL A 50!

Hello Ladies & Gentlemen and as always, thank you for watching!! I hope my viewers are enjoying the new 4K videos!!! Today, I'm running solo...still. Well, I have my trusted Peterbilt 389X #11 with a Miller Industries, Century 1150R rotator heavy towing and recovery unit with me. Last week I showed you the first job of the day: • MOBILE PARKING LOT HIG... This job is IMMEDIATELY following last week's video. I left straight from that job to come to this job. This one is a bit more complicated. Driver turned the corner too short pulling into his delivery location and dropped the loaded trailer into a ditch. I'm not allowed to block the road and don't have a good angle to work from. The trailer is fully loaded and the truck's drive tires are off the ground. One wrong move and this thing could slide further into the ditch or roll on its side. Our ARC nemesis has to join in on the fun while we work to try to free this unit before some major storms hit. I hope you all enjoy this video!!! Thanks for watching and God bless!!!

I never officially drove but learned to drive in case of an emergency but I rode for 7 years. To this day nearly 30 years later I still swing wide and constantly check my mirrors. I believe it's called being a conscientious driver no matter the size of your ride.

As a kid, my father taught me to steer the trailer. Once I learned that, I never had a problem making a corner. If I had to take two lanes to swing wide enough to make a corner, then so be it. "Use the truck to steer the trailer." He was a good teacher.

I was an Army Combat Engineer Officer, and we had a lot of big rigs and long lowbeds. Training of drivers seemed like never-ending, especially in South Korea, where the roads were narrow, and the shoulders were invariably too soft. If you are not "driving the load" you will never get it to your destination.

I had two places where I really needed to SWIFT, one I could do with just two lanes, but tandems all the way up(and nobody on the cross road, other wise needed all four), and one where I needed the entire intersection, so about six or eight lanes (90° curb, construction had it down to one lane). Of course I had cooperation from traffic, they figured out the name on my trailer, and the store where they were going, was one and the same.

Ron I do something unique I try to find where you are working on a particular job. That Checkered Pattern Tower was intriguing to me. You would tilt the camera at just so and I could never get my bearings. But you finally came through. When you moved around the your MW Truck and I could get a straight shot of the building in front of were you were working I captured the back of Schaefer's and figured out the rest. What is really telling is that evidently the internet does not know there is a Red and White Checkered Tower in Scott City MO. Otherwise I would have found it much faster. Would you know if that is a Water Tower? I figured that it would have to be. Those types of towers usually only have a single function.

If you can't keep your cool you aren't professional enough to work with the general public. I've said that to a lot of people that thought they could do a job like this. People will test every last nerve you have if you let them. If you don't, they will still try. There is nothing you can do about that. What you can do is control yourself.

I'm confused, where and when exactly would Ron ever have the right to lose his cool while performing a recovery? The driver's aren't rude. Even if they're being slightly annoying and lingering around you, that's no reason to lose your cool. I don't see a reason or where he has the right to lose his cool during this job. It's not like he's there for free and it's an inconvenience to him. He's there to get the driver back on the road and to make money. Or make money first, I imagine helping people is first on his agenda.

yup but if the driver is an owner operator it's his insurance that will be screaming about any damage so it is kind of understandable why he would hover a bit. He pays for the recovery without a claim and his rates don't go up, he claims it and they do.

I'm sure its annoying to the operator, but I work in IT. We have to deal with people who either hover looking over your shoulder or manage to disappear at exactly the moment you want them to 1. Recreate the problem or 2. Test the fix. Of the scenarios, having them wander off before you get confirmation you fixed their problem is the worse one. Not to say the shoulder-lurkers are enjoyable, but I would tske those over the Office Houdinis any day.

Got myself in to a pickle one day at a customer who has relatively small space to turn around. I didn’t do what I had done the past few time. I tried something new and inadvertently went in to the mud. Ground was soft from melted snow and rain. Had to be yanked back. I was there but also out of the way. The operator was trying to set the chain on the part of the ICC bar and keep sliding down. I asked if they needed a hand, lent them a quick hand as needed. Long story short, getting stuck sucks. 😊 Oh also stay out of the way unless needed.😊

Ron, first, I love watching your videos, and I love the professional way you deal with people; and especially the way you take the time to teach principals along the way. I understand the constraints of profitability, but I would suggest that it's time for you to always carry a swamper in the truck with you. You are getting to an age and an importance to your company where you need to let younger people wrestle with the heavy chains while you deal with the more technical issues of operating the wrecker and teaching them the ropes. Spoken with a sense of admiration, but with a few more years on you.

I know that just about every trucker gets into this mess at least once. I think some of the fault should be put on building developers who do not properly engineer access for these big trucks. I really wish there was better legal coverage for truckers to refuse to deliver if the access is not wide enough, safe and clear. Sure wish you had a swamper with you, Ron. Working off a narrow two-way street is safer with extra eyes.

@Felicia Scott. I TOTALLY AGREE! Kentucky is the worst roads for a 53 foot trailer! Plus, the road edge bumpers are e right on the edge of the pavement, then from the bumper strips on many of the roads (especially after leaving the parkways ) there's only 18 inches to the ditch, or a cliffside that drops off about 400 feet..Anybody ever driven over to Gray Hawk Kentucky in the snowy winter from Wyckliff?

@@ArtStoneUS exactly! Just truck a few miles in Kentucky OFF the parkways and make about 6 delivery stops in those old towns. Most infrastructure is designed for 1940's era equiptment, alleyways and truck docks not designed for 53'trailers...but we do it because that's how we roll our pay.

I blame the legislature and the semi-trailer design. The driveway width and proximity of the ditch would not be an issue if they hadn't put the axles on those trailers all the way to the rear. These axle positions on a semi-trailer would not be legal in Europe, and even if they are in the US, it's still unsafe and impractical.

I remember my time driving through Missouri usually on my way to Texas or OKC. I would look over and see 2 or 3 of these kinds of accidents where trucks fell into culvert ditches along the service roads next to the freeway.

Great recovery Ron. You have great patience with these truck drivers. You could see the driver was physically upset about the situation. Your right Ron, these things happen. You got that calming disposition from your Dad. Looking for your helpers for traffic in this video. Too much traffic for shutting down a lane, unsafe.

Don't say that! It would be a loss of dependable revenue; revenue that is helping you pay for your first rotator and could help you buy another rotator. A pair of father / son rotators to the rescue. NO job too big or too small Midwest Trucks will tow them all. Better yet, it could be ' No job too big,...EVER!" BTW, excellent use of the cones; you can never be too safe. Have a great weekend everyone.

Correct me if I am wrong here, but isn't sliding them to the rear appropriate for a fully-loaded dry van trailer?

@@UahUahUah no it is not, tandems are slid to different positions for weight distribution and bridge laws and most costumers require them all the way back when in the dock. That driver just made a costly mistake though
