They could also meet at sea. That would be very pirate.

Good idea. Would fit with the idea of Shanks playing dirty by putting the Straw Hats at a disadvantage.

There's a pretty simple reason why the Red Hair Pirates might turn back around and come back to Elbaf. If a group, like say the Marines, attack Elbaf, Shanks would probably drop whatever he's doing to help them. One of the few things we know about Shanks is how commited to protecting his friends he is, so it wouldn't be surprising for him to do something like this. The Marines (and possibly the Holy Knights) also have a motive to attack Elbaf, that being that they're harboring Ohara's poneglyph research as well as Jaguar D. Saul. There's also the possibility that Shanks may be leaving Elbaf but is just traveling to another island within the Warland region, which is probably an archipelago like Tot Land. While there is a possibility they meet on a different island, there seems to be too much tying the Red Hair Pirates to the Elbaf storyline in my eyes. Usopp meeting his father Yasopp (this interaction will likely be very important for his character development), the Red Force being similar in design to a viking longship, Shanks's character likely being inspired by Erik the Red and the Norse god Tyr, his subordinate crews being stationed at Elbaf, Kidd's grudge against Shanks (if and when the Kidd Pirates are revealed to be alive), Elbaf being Shanks's territority as well as his alliance with the Giant Warrior Pirates, etc.

@sebastien-loikntsangou-kan5264 I have a couple problems with this. One is that it might be just logistically impossible for Shanks to arrive at Elbaf in time for the Elbaf arc. By the time the Straw Hats come to the island, Shanks should already be days of travel away, so unless the Elbaf arc lasts for a while, I don't see how Shanks can get there in time. My other issue is that I don't really see the purpose in making Luffy and Shanks' reunion so vague. It's one of the most anticipated moments in the story, so I feel like Oda making it crystal clear that Shanks is going to be waiting for Luffy on Elbaf would be more interesting than him leaving Elbaf and then immediately coming back there.

To address your first point, while it is logistically impossible for most crews to reach Elbaf in time, the Red Hair Pirates seem to be the exception. They managed to get from the New World to Marineford in only a few hours, the same journey that usually takes pirates days. Getting from their current location to Elbaf would be relatively easier. To address your second point, Oda has done things like this several times. A great example of this, Jimbei staying behind instead of joining the others in going to Wano, despite how anticipated him joining the crew has been since Fishman Island. The ambiguity just makes Jimbei's eventual arrival to Wano more surprising and thus more impactful. I believe the same is being done here with Shanks. In fact, this wouldn't even be the first time he's done this with Shanks as the same thing happened in Marineford. He was said to be unable to intervene due to battling Kaidou in the New World, only to make a surprise appearance at the end of the arc. Shuffling characters around for impactful introductions is just one of Oda's go-to narrative devices.

@sebastien-loikntsangou-kan5264 I just feel like in the case of Luffy meeting Shanks, it would be more interesting to build up to it rather than do it as a surprise because it is such an anticipated moment. To me it's more comprable to something like Luffy vs Kaido than Jinbei joining the crew.

Idk if yall have talked abt this alr but I was watching a theory video by sword piece abt when luffy will meet shanks, So yk how the last road poneglyph is held by the man marked by flames, and how Oda has stated when a person/pirate appears that means the story will end soon what if the man marked by flames is the person/pirate with the eyepatch, Because he holds the last road poneglyph aka the last part needed to claim the One Piece, and when Luffy claims the one piece and becomes pk that's the supposed end of the story so it would be right for that person with the eyepatch who is possibly the man marked by flames, to come into the story, But idrk it js stood out to me, I could be wrong, I could be right, who knows, but thats how theories go anyway

I think there will be more to the story after claiming the One Piece, probably not more than half an arc to an arc though; but I do agree that the man marked by flames will likely be the character with an eyepatch.

Shanks won't be at Elbaf when Luffy gets there because he's going to try and stop Blackbeard. And Blackbeard will wipeout the Red Hair pirates. Giving Luffy a reason to go after Blackbeard

I don't think I'll ever understand the appeal of this idea. I'm perfectly fine with Teach beating Shanks but I feel like it makes all the sense in the world to have it after Luffy meets Shanks.

@dude360ism Not necessarily. More often than not, Luffy's allies/friends go their own way after their arc is done. Ace met the Straw Hats in Alabasta, yet still got later beat by Blackbeard.

I saw that Blackbeard beats Shanks because he is very lackadaisical. He could've stopped Blackbeard well before he got all this power. And the only reason I think he's leaving Elbaf to stop Blackbeard now is because he knows that Kid and Law were both at Wano. And if he got poneglyph rubbing from Kid, and he knows Luffy is at Egghead then that leaves Law, and Shanks knows Blackbeard is an opportunist and was probably waiting for one of them to go that direction after Wano. And at this point in the story what better way to make Blackbeard an even bigger threat to the world then by taking out The Red Hair pirates

I find this concept interesting but I don’t know, it’s foreshadowed bb and shanks will fight and it seems the elbaf arc will be the place for it. Also you would be insinuating with this video that shanks will be the final “villain” in one piece

I personally think it's almost set in stone that the story will continue past Laugh Tale, so there would still be room for Shanks vs Blackbeard to happen after that in my mind.
