Hi I enjoy wild camping just to get away from it all I was taught to leave no trace you have been there, only camp above the fence line in wild areas and only stay in the same place for one to two nights, take everything back with you, you took with you. These pictures we see in the news are not wild campers and are frankly giving us a bad name.

We had the same issue with boy racers at Lake Vyrnwy. Had to move in the middle of the night, didn't feel safe. I was a bit disappointed to see the comment regarding taking out a crowbar, that is poor advice. You shouldn't escalate a situation where you feel like you need a weapon. Just drive away if you feel that unsafe. Otherwise great video, thanks for sharing.

District Association camping (local DA of the Camping & Caravanning Club) is good, too. Meet up with friends. A couple will soon be missing as next month they go on a camping trek in Bhutan. THIS weekend I have taken Friday off work as the evenings are drawing in & it would otherwise be dark by the time we got there and set up. So it will be a noon set-off, travelling to Sutton Park (the “pile” belonging to Samantha Camerons’s parents just south of Easingwold & north of York). We camp in the grounds in a rally field where they do have SOME electric hook-ups. About £10 per night, for a place to camp in a nice field with trees around the edges, a water tap and an Elsan point to empty the loo. Maybe an extra £2 per night if we have electrics. What can you do, lawfully, for £12 a night/day? May be a BBQ. Maybe tea and cakes in the sunshine of the weather forecast is lying again. Maybe a trip to Easingwold and it’s butchers and nice market square. Could be a trip into York, and no doubt a bottle of wine with friends in the evening. Apparently people now call DA camping “off grid” (if you don’t have a hook up and there’s no toilets/showered/washroom, like you get on a commercial or a Club site). Been doing it almost 30 years and it’s GREAT. Tilley Lamps for light, warmth and heat in the awning, and that reassuring hiss). Occasionally a camp fire.... (not on commercial sites and only if you leave no trace). What a life.

  • @raymondporter2094

And don’t forget the solar panel! With that, Tilley Lamps, propane and a charcoal BBQ you can camp and make anywhere a fun place to stay!

I was car camping at Ivinghoe Beacon car park one Saturday night in the noughties. Around 1am 20 odd cars turned up and parked next to me and proceeded to do wheel spin laps of the car park. I waited it out for as long as I could but had to drive off eventually to the next car park along. Weekends are always worse for camping in a car park. People come and go throughout the night.

It's often used as shorthand for "living in a motorhome or vehicle outside of camp sites, without hookups of any kind" though. Which isn't strictly speaking illegal but often frowned upon, mostly by citizens who are stationary, and especially in areas where there are issues with housing (so you have tons of actual homeless who have to live in a vehicle; towns near London where housing is incredibly overheated for instance.) There's not a lot of actual "wild" left in the UK to camp in. Every square inch of it is owned by someone.

The term "wild camping" is used to describe living in a motorhome or caravan outside of camping sites. It may or may not include living in the wilderness. Not that there is much wilderness left in the UK, with 60+ million people living on a relatively small island.

Boring tip for wild camping, watch your alcohol intake, you always want to be in a position to bug out if your spot turns out not to be the quiet safe place you hoped it would be. I also give my van a good once over before setting off in the morning, just make sure it’s not be tampered with in some way. Oh and make sure your fuel cap is locked. They are easy to smash but it may put them off.

a few good points there about conserving electric they are as you say only use what you need use solar panels use the LED lights in your van they use less power and if your not watching the tv at anytime switch it off morning after go for a drive around this will help recharge some of the used power in the leisure battery as long as you are on a split charge system might be a good idea to carry a spare ready charged 12 v battery too that you can swap over if your van only has 1 liesure battery fitment

Technically this is not wild camping, which is unlawful everywhere in the UK including Scotland with a motorised vehicle. Please revise and stop using the term "wild camping" when rocking up with a motor home/camper. It gives the wrong impression and greatly upsets people who live and work locally. Parking up is perfectly fine. Carry on and enjoy, responsibly!

Free parking should be you're title. I have to say I don't like videos like this..........why.........it encourages those with less initiative to join the free parking brigade when you can clearly afford to support the local economy and use a registered site. Ok what's my point......... what you are clearly ignoring is what happens when you advertise and encourage free parking, the hoards of other sheep that follow you create a take over in car parks, within no time at all the council will either put restrictions on the parking or worst still put height barriers up.........it's then ruined for you and anyone else with a bit of initiative. I've experienced this in some of our national parks recently and try touring west coast of Ireland where so many height barriers have been put across car parks........you can't even get a motorhome in to park for lunch. Think carefully about what you post, for every action there is a re-action. Finally I should say I'm a motorhome owner myself, and retired, so this isn't written with any envy.

where does it say i have to pay someone to exist Graham? Pay for somewhere to sleep when i own my own place? Why should I pay £4 per day for electric on a registered campsite in addition to £20+ per night when i wouldnt use £4 of electric in 2 weeks? Show me where i signed up to be part of the rat race rip off you blindly subscribe too and promote? I I'm happy for you that you feel the need for state guidance on how you ought to live your life, but you have no say in the decisions of those that dont and that see beyond it. I've not lived in a house or been part of the nannystate for over 2 years and have zero intention of ever subscribing to it ever again. And no, i dont even even a motorhome (yet).
