Also remember, if you know the fielder ain't gonna catch it, go! And always tag at 3rd n when they catch it, or don't, go!

By tag up are you meaning stay at the base until you see them catch or drop the ball then take off. Understanding that if you take a lead off [big or small] and the defender does make the catch the runner has to come back and "tag up" then if they are quick and in good position can attempt the steal. I'm hearing you diferentiate between tag up and lead off. Said another way - stay on or close to base if runner / base coach feels a high probability fly ball will caught [ you are also not backtracking and then trying to run all in those precious seconds]. It just depends on where and how it’s hit. Some plays you’ll be tagging up, others you won’t be and you’ll be steps off the bag because of where it’s hit. There are certain hits, like gappers, where you’re more aggressive with a bigger lead anticipating the ball dropping.
