When to SHIFT GEARS in a MANUAL Transmission CAR!
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
In my video tutorial in which I taught you guys how to drive manual a lot of people left comments asking when they should shift between gears. Now although I can not tell you exactly when to shift in this video I give you some pointers as things to look for that indicate it may be time to shift up or down in gears. I hope you find this video helpful and subscribe to my channel for more information about driving stick shift!

Its great that you mention when you should shift in a manual car because I'm sure there is that guy that will think redline is the "Shift Zone" lol...

It is, in a performance car on track. But, if (and I'm sure you were) implying that someone will allow it to BOUNCE off the red before shifting, I think he'll learn a lot about engine damage and replacement, so, a lot of lessons learned here....

Hey Rush..another great and helpful video for us manual transmission rookies. How about a small video on downshifting only..I know I could use a few pointers as to when

Been preaching shifting by sound ever since my dad taught me how to drive. Automatic drivers think I'm insane lmao
Awesome vid Rush. Love my manual GT but I had to drive home from San Francisco earlier this week during traffic... only time I wanted an auto.

You are right though I’ve been driving stick shift for over 20 years I can tell by the sound went to shift the gears also, you can also downshift as well when I spent time in the Philippines it amazes me how they drive manual transmission. They start the car up in second gear and start driving it in second, which really intrigue me which I’m thinking about doing.

I can’t wait to get my first manual. It’s gonna be a GT mustang too !
My automatic 2015 Honda Civic got totaled and I’m not getting any money for it bc it was financed. Now I got a manual 2005 eclipse as a beater upper to learn how to drive manual. Hopefully I get good enough to finance a mustang! My boyfriend said it will feel better driving a newer manual but I first I need to learn on something cheap 😂
Your video just made it click as what I wasn't understanding about a manual vehicle.
Using this to learn how to drive manual with my racing sim setup! 😂
I've literally watched all your vids in like 5 days love your channel keep grinding rush!!!👍
Holy cow that Costco is packed! I never see gas stations packed where I'm from that would drive me nuts. I got a Ford Focus 2012 for really cheap and I'm trying to educate myself about manual bc it has a manual transmission driven by a computer so it's "automatic". Most people have their clutches wear quickly and many say to "drive it like a manual". I wish it was a manual manual in a way bc you kinda have to make the computer drive like a manual. It's pretty cool though and I think I get the concepts now.
really like your vids (just recently got a manual 2016 GT PP1 with corsa extreme) btw the owners manual actually states the recommended shift points for best fuel economy 1 to 2 - 13 mph 2 to 3 - 24 mph 3 to 4 - 31 mph 4 to 5 - 39 mph 5 to 6 - 43 mph

Great Video. You said something in the other one that surprised me. Can you really let the clutch out from a stop without giving any gas? I would think it would stall for sure. I feel like I start pushing on the gas when I start letting up the clutch.., so that when the clutch is engaged, you have enough gas to start moving...
Dude, you should do a video on when to use your turning signal! (It's the little stick on the left side of your steering column!) ;-)

I install a louder exhaust, if needed, and drive by sound. I only check my RPM or MPH at times, if need be. Also, most MT car manuals have a graph in it showing the rec. shift points, etc. But, any aftermarket stuff in drive train, clutch, etc. requires an adjustment to drive habits.
Good video bro
Wow gas prices around here are $2.20 a gal. Since I have a turbocharged Vw I usually shift around 2,000 rpm. I'm new to the channel btw and you have great content, keep it up.

When you did this video. Did you already had the corsa installed. I’ve been between the borla atak and the Corsa extreme. I want something quiet as a daily but when at the track or want to go full throttle i want the beast to wake up
Thinking of getting a Z31 in a couple months, but don't know how to drive manual. The only person I know that drives a manual is my moms friend. So I'm thinking of asking her to go with me when I go see the car, so she can drive it.
Congrats. It is definitely an accomplishment. I wanna know from anybody about how fast are you going before you’re able to engage in six gear? By that I mean for me so far, the RPM shoots up to 4000 -4500 and does not sound happy. I usually shift back into fifth. Any advice??
I have a 2015 5.0 also. I can confirm he definitely had to stop for gas!
Cool, J Cole (middle child) so dope
$4 two years ago in California.. wow, the old days.
Cool man. So, for when you are slowing down to turn, you downshift to 2nd or 3rd?
Hey Rush what about when your doing a drag? Are you quickly just in and out on clutch? I feel like im riding clutch or something
Ik all the basics I jus feel nervous like j won’t be able to do it. I’m more nervous abt stopping and downshifting
That much for gas in Texas where I live we pay about 2 26 for each gallon

I love driving manual but I do it on an automatic mini cooper. Do I use the same principles?
I stubbornly still drive stick despite my ocd getting worse in regards to shifting and various other things. I now drive without shoes even in the winter because I got so used to it. I recently got a scion tc after driving an 02' nissan spec-v for many years. I am having issues with basic timing of shifts not being smooth enough and somehow too fast of shifting and footwork at the same time. I need to get just stop thinking about trying to shift perfect so much and just drive. I'm not even sure how to describe how I'm messing up shifts and timing.
I learned on a 1972 VW Beetle. 4 speed. That thing was very loud and had no tach, so you had to go off sound. I wanted to get a newer manual but couldn't drive it at all. 2011 Hyundai Sonata with a 5 speed. Stalled it out so many times I decided to get an automatic.
Could make a video on hitting corners in a manual
So when racing you wanna shift a lot later in every gear right?
Where I mess up a lot is when I have loud music and once in a while I forget I am at a low gear in a freeway and can't hear my engine stress, until song changes or worst when you feel engine overwhelmed, hurts
