    You are brilliant! Here I am, in mid-August in the south of England, with brown and browning post-flowering crocosmia. Now I know to cut back selectively:) We had a long drought and it's the day before a week of heavy rain so, I have found you two just in time! Your friendly advice is really watchable and helpful. Thank you🙂!

    I'm the same, that blast of heat browned mine even with care but now they are flowering🤔 as anyone advice what to do. I'm a fairly new gardener about 4 years young🥰. I'm learning loads from propagating to seed collection learning as I go. I'm enjoying watching my garden grown.

    Thank you! I just bought a crocosmia and I know nothing about it - all I know is that it will have red flowers! It is budding now…………thanks for the tips about cutting down in the fall. AND thank you that you use corona pruners…….I get tired of gardeners on you tube who have us running out to buy the most expensive everything. I appreciate your simplicity and down to earth way of teaching.

    I was wondering if you can just gently pull on the brown ones to release from the corm ????

  • @SpokenGarden

    Hi there! Yes, you can, but you run the risk of pulling up the corm a little or a lot if the brown leaves/stems aren't completely withered. Also, if not completely withered then the corm itself can be damaged with tearing on its surface. Maybe give it a gentle tug first and see if the leaves/stems come loose. If not, then don't keep pulling; use your hand shears or other cutting tool to then remove. Hope that helps and thank you for commenting and watching! 😀😊👍🏼👍🏼

    Hi Guys, I really enjoy your videos. May I ask, what do you plant near your crocosmia when it’s pruned back … I need something to give a bit of colour when it’s pruned back. Thank you 🌺🌺

    Hi @mmckgpio! 👋🏼👋🏼 Thank you for watching and for saying that. 😊😊 Great question, too! In our old yard that this video was filmed in, we had a couple of plants in front of it, as it was the tallest plant in that bed during the early summer into late summer. Right in front of the crocosmia were some Shasta daisies, Campanula, then Primroses, Pansies, and mini groupings of Tete-A-Tete Daffodils. At an earlier time, we did have vinca (Periwinkle) growing in spots in that bed, but we eventually ripped it all out. Hope all these plants help you in your plant search! 😀😀

    @@SpokenGarden Thank you so much Guys, you really have helped me with your guys to hedges, pruning.. I really loved the statement you made in one of your videos “ where you prune/ cut, you are affectedly telling the tree/shrub where you want it to grow”. A real light bulb 💡 moment for me. Thank you again 🌳🪷

    Is it bad that I cut mine back with my lawnmower in the winter?

  • @SpokenGarden

    @SpokenGarden

    It might have been better to cut them by hand, because a mower does cut, but it also can pull as it cuts and can dislodge or pull up bulbs in loose enough or wet enough soil. If you didn't notice any rock-like sounds as you mowed over them, your crocosmia should be ok. 👍😉
