You know.. to some degree I feel this the gaming community’s fault. Respawn did everything that ppl cried out for. Delivered on a amazing FPS, free dlc, no pay to win and everyone put their money on the same yearly exhausted COD and battlefield. Respawn might have gone under without this deal from lack of sales to keep them afloat.
I think it's fairly obvious that EA set this up from the start. Titanfall 2 was released at the worst possible time so as to guarantee low sales and force Respawn into a financially precarious situation so that they'll be forced to take the deal with EA to save the studio financially. I mean why else would you release an FPS in between COD and Battlefield unless you're trying to fail deliberately. Just a conspiracy theory. Don't mind me.

My thoughts exactly. Why get out of bed with Activision and end up with a mistress like EA ? They say gamers never die, they just respawn, but in this case they've signed their own death warrant !, 2 think anything else is sadly delusional !.
@jcaashby3

It is something to think about. The release date basically killed Titanfall 2 from succeeding. DId EA think that 3 FPS releasing in a 3 week span ..that all 3 would be a success? COD and BF were clearly going to be 1 and 2 ...leaving TF at 3rd in sales between all three.

Cantthinkofaname it is normal economy that you lose like 80% of player base over time. To keep the game alive you have to get constant new players in. But Titanfall 2 is literally one of the best shooting games with the worst marketing. Players are leaving like any other game but only a few new players are generated.

SirCreepsAlott You not liking it doesn’t make it mediocre. For example, although I understand the appeal of The Witcher 3, I don’t have much fun playing it I but I don’t go running around telling people it’s mediocre because it would not be an objective statement. If you’re just going to reply that Titanfall 2 was objectively bad you’re going to need serious evidence to back that up.

The main problem with how business work these days are the people at the top. They really don't care about the company they run. They have job security in huge severance packages if they fail and large bonuses to give themselves in a risky venture works. Worst of all no matter how bad a CEO does, even going so far as to embezzle from a company they always seem to find work at another company no questions asked. In Respawns case it's a pretty simple practice of the current people in charge sell the company for a huge sum of money and more than likely won't even be around in 5 years time to see how things go. Even if it fails they'll be rich enough to not really care.
@victorpleitez8867
6 жыл бұрын
You can't really blame Respawn, chances are they had no choice in the matter. Titanfall 2 is good sequel game that EA screwed over in favor of another game, or perhaps maybe they thought people would go out and buy 2 fps games all within a week of each other, which is just so stupid and greedy of them. Chances are the studio was struggling to stay afloat cuz of the lower sales and needed that extra cash.

Microsoft has the lowest market share in terms of consoles sold. This means that they would have to offer much more money than EA offered and would be more of a risk for them. Seeing how poorly Microsoft has doubled down on exclusive support this generation and the coming one, I can't see how Respawn would take it seriously, unless they were in danger of closing which no reports have hinted at.
Its dead. They killed it. They will kill again. (c) Ross Scott on EA

This game is very cheap nowadays, Don't hesitate, it's an awesome game !!!
Well considering that EA has literally shutdown every single studio, I feel confident that Bioware wont be around to see 2020, that it has ever gotten I going to assume that Respawn will get a lot of initial support from EA, then it'll be forced to make games with impossible to reach expectations, then it'll be delegated to support team to make other games, then we'll get layoffs and then Respawn will be shut down.
EA set up Titanfall 2 for failure to buy Respawn at a discount. That stupid launch window finally makes sense.

This would be fine if profits were correlated with the quality of the games released. But sadly they aren't, uninspired games that exploit their customers are what are currently raking in the money.
We were nowhere even close to "excited" if you look at reddit the community immediately said their eulogies for the franchise

If Titanfall 3 is added to EA's yearly cycle, making it a Battlefield-Battlefront-Titanfall pattern, then I think Respawn has a chance to do great things. The twist in the tale is talk of Respawn working on a Star Wars game, which might pump the brakes on Titanfall going forward. Either way, I hope Respawn maintain their top talent and a healthy portion of creative control. Those guys running with a big budget Star Wars game does sound exciting. Let's just keep an eye out for those filthy loot boxes, eh?
Well might as well not bother with Titanfall 3 because we all know what will happen to it now that EA is in charge of it.
I'm more interested in the current Respawn leadership. If they bail to form their own new company again then that's when I'm calling the end of days for Respawn as we know it.

great video thanks for getting some light on it.
there is potential that EA could do the EA thing with the 140 Million bonus and set the requirements to achieve the bonus so high that it is unobtainable. For example if Respawn makes a 100 million dollar game every year over the next four years EA could say that Respawn did not qualify for the bonus because Respawn didn't make 150 million dollar games.
I like the financial analysis of this video, it really puts things into perspective for me. Love the unique and scientific approach of this channel!!!
yea boi hit me up with that titanfall 1 soundtrack
Basically every Respawn games is going to have Microtransactions.
Thanks for shedding a professional light on that matter (which most vids don't/can't). I have a follow-up question though: Doesn't the agreement entail that EA can't shut down Respawn before said 5 years have passed and the performance is evaluated?
Thank you for your work D.T.
Would have been interesting if Respawn Entertainment would have been acquired by Valve and current/future Titanfall games would be on Steam with modding/workshop support the game would have a great player base also the Titanfall games uses the Source Engine after all ;P = Valve.

Kinda worried by this
another one to the waiting line for firing squad.
initially i thought "well then they will get spurred to make a great, long lasting game" on the other hand as you said it, if the sales are bad they might as well make dlc, MT and loot boxes
The thing is that in order to get more sales EA might push them to release yearly sequel and turn in to COD method
So where does Vince Zampella head next? Ubisoft?
anyone saw that he kept shooting friendly in the gameplay?
But that is just business I mean even when I go to work I get bonuses based on performance
We weren't excited, we were worried
I'm gonna miss you so much ion and monarch.... it was great while it lasted. 👍😢
Rest in piece Titanfall, you were a great Video - Game - Franchise!
Honestly, this is where we as gamers need to stand up. DO NOT BUY RESPAWN'S NEXT GAME. I don't care who you are: Do not fall for the commercials, the bells and whistles, or the hype. Let EVERY COPY sit on the shelves and ROT. Don't pre-order, Hell don't even read reviews. It's time these publishers learned that THEY ARE NOTHING WITHOUT THE PEOPLE THAT BUY THEIR GAMES, and that they NEED to give us our money's worth for $60. Period.
He “titanfell”. I get it.
My first thought was microtransactions. Unfortunately, it looks like this is the future in gaming. Hopefully they can implement it in a way that’s consumer friendly. I guess that’s the best we can hope for. Good luck Respawn.
Depends almost entirely upon how many games EA wants respawn to make. if they want say only 2 in that timeframe, that doesn't restrict their creative freedom that much, but if they want annual releases of Titanfall with microtransactions so extensive you could shift the Pacific ocean into non-existence, well let's just say that we're going to have some serious problems with every game being Titanfall 2 in a different case.
The letter "B" in EA stands for being a good company
What I'm more worried about is that all the payments end in 4 years. Meaning that after the four years respawn can do what they want, which will more than likely be against EA's wishes. This means that In four years, the company will more than likely close as EA will sack the studio.
This will either launch the Titanfall | series into the success it deserves or send it to a certain grave - I hope this game gets the player base they deserve and it doesn't become pay to win... Call in your Titans and standby pilots 💖/💔
i want titan fall 2 to have atleast 10,000 players everyday, for the quality of titanfall 2 thats a minimium

Well that’s unfortunate
RIP Respawn. You will be remembered.
sucks bc titanfall 2 was actually a really good game, big improvement from the 1st, I figured the third will be even better but who knows now
To who goes that money? The shareholders of the company right? So most of that money goes to the founders and investors and a bit to the employees who got some shares, right? So it seems to me that the employees only have their jobs at risk and the mayor shareholders will push them to make fast money.
Sad times
A small player base... 2000+ player actually connected on PC. Even BF1 has less player online right now... On PC of course.
UGG microtransactions and loot boxes are not gambling, you have guarranteed value, even at a small level, but when you gamble, you risk losing everything.
Well Respawn, it was a great ride while it lasted. Good luck to you, you're going to need it!
Great video mate ! Quality content.
I need to watch more episode of shark tank
The sad part is their gonna be closed B4 then so they don't have to pay them
Titanfall is going to have a ton of microtransactios now, probably bring back season passes as well.
Respawn sound like a smart bunch, the CEO especially. He's not afraid to play with the big publishers. We have to remember that EA did in fact publish Titanfall 2 and they couldn't force any of their anti-consumer practices onto the game. If Respawn can stand their ground we may just receive a decent Titanfall in the Frostbite engine.
Oh, the puns.
