I am so thankful to Ava for telling the REAL story in such a respectful way, and thankful for the cast for using their talents to tell the story of snatched youths by the the “justice system”. You know you're innocent, which is why you don't take a plea deal because that makes you a liar and you would be owning up to "your crimes." So you take your chances on the jury and you end up with an even worse sentence. There's no way out of it when the cards are already dealt against you.

Ms. DuVernay did the damn thing on this series! I cried for those boys and their mothers. This also made me angry! The shear calculated justice system screams reform NOW! No person under the age of 18 should be interrogated without a guardian and/or lawyer being present. A minor cannot sign off on a job permit, school registries, etc; so, why is it by law a 16 yr old can wave his/her rights to an attorney?!! A 16 yr old can’t even purchase cigarettes (in some states), nor liquor; can’t vote, can’t get married without parental consent. So it is paramount when it comes to the justice system that a person under 18 must never be left alone with a cop/investigator.

Could hardly breathe in part 1. Was angered throughout parts 2 and 3. Cried through much of part 4. Not only do they deserve to be exonerated and the money from judgments awarded, but those who railroaded them should now spend 6-14 years behind bars in the system those dishonest and dishonorable individuals corruptly used in trying to destroy these young men. Hard to watch, but a crucial piece of history to absorb.

That’s the lowest estimate I’ve heard. I’ve read 2-5%. We have a 90%+ plea rate. How many innocent people copped plea’s on a lawyers advice or because the plea sentence was 5-10 and the possible trial sentence was 25-life or something comparable? How many innocent people are locked up pre-trial because they can’t afford bail? I believe the real number is in the 100’s of thousands in any given year. Our criminal justice system is fucked up.

Strength, peace-of-mind, and great blessings to all five and their families.

Just re-watching this makes me super emotional. I've seen the series yesterday and got a headache from all the wave of emotions it triggered, from anger, sadness and absolute heartbreak at the injustice these children have gone through! I wasn't around in 1989, so I wwasn't familiar with the story and had no idea how it would end, but it was definitely excruciating to watch. I truly hope this is not gonna be just another show people will watch and forget, but would actually try and do the best they can to stand up for the opressed in a rotten system that needs to be changed completely.
