My daddy sang this to me as a lullaby almost every night. He was born in 1921 and I was born in 1965. This song is in my heart!

Last evening, 23 Oct 2022, Dandy Don went to be with the Lord. I know the coyotes around his Melody Mountain ranch gave him one vocal sendoff. Blessings to the great Troubadour and Kathy. "One morning they searched his adobe He disappeared without even a word But that night as the moon crossed the mountain One more coyote was heard"

i hate to hear that. never met the man. but many nights when i lived up in lamoille NV id walk back home about a mile and a half from Ocarrolls after having quite a few cold ones with some of the old timer cowboys. when the snow drifts were 4 or 5 ft and the stars were just bouncing off the ruby mtns and id play coyotes by don on my phone in my pocket. they were the most peaceful walks you can imagine. its a feeling you cant explain nor replicate again. RIP

Got a few CD’s of Don’s. Apart from liking his singing, I also like the fact he remembers and respects singers like Marty Robbins, Rex Allen and Gene Autry.

I heard Carl Sprague while walking through a ghost town up in Utah. They were playing the Mormon cowboy over speakers about the place. Regardless, this cover does him great justice.

I always would play Don Edwards (Saddle Songs) when we would go camping with our kids. They acted like they did not like it then, but now that they are in their 20's they Make me play it when we go camping! Awesome!

Don. Great to know you. Specifically and personally in a hotel in Santa Clarita CA comes to mind. Got a poster of you and Waddy that was hanging in the elevator after I dropped your name to the hotel manager. Thank you. You signed it after permission to remove it. We were headed to the WS Hart house for a minute. Private and sweet concert. I think it was 1995 but I may be mistaken on the year. Great breakfast with you and your lovely wife. Then had a great day at the Melody Ranch. A lot of fun with a lot of great poets and balladeers that next day. Not important now to anyone but just remembering. A highlight in my memories. You are the best. Live on. Love you. Much love and respect, Thanks Wyatt

I think it was written by D.J. O'Malley, but Carl T. made it famous and sold 900,000 recordings of it.

I'm pretty sure it was DJ O'Malley, a Montana Cowboy, wrote this one. Don't matter. The sentiments here were shared by a lot of working herdsmen back in them days.

Sun Set That sun still sets in the west But that old trail is asphalt now Baked by the sun hot and dry The sounds of hoofs have passed Herds of buffalo graze no more Barbwire strung along The fence post passed like a picket fence As the truck tires whine on The sweetgrass has all but gone The mesquite is tall and thick Prickly Pear covers the prairie The Longhorns have gone A saddle all covered in dust The moth-riddled blanket flaps Riding quirt amiss Old spurs hung on a wall On a post hangs a leather belt With a holster cracked and rotting That old hogleg turned brown Brass all green The lassoing cowboy is no more That broad hat tipped back His shirt sleeves rolled high Jeans rolled double His hair thinned and gray High cheekbones darken Bull hide tough Hand scars a many With eyes squinting A straw chair leaned back Daydreaming No more round ups That last ride was long ago With a rolled cigarette on his lip His words in a low key That sun still sets in the west Barry 4/3/2023

Sorry but it was written as a poem by D.J. O’Malley in 1893. Sprage recorded it and I believe he sold around 900,000 copies.

It's made by Santa Cruz Guitar Company, I think it's a 00 size, all mahogany. I've owned a couple of their guitars - they're wonderful, but pretty expensive. You can call them, they'll know what guitar he has.
