The insurance company's latest trick is to write an estimate by pictures, that the customer sends, via smart phone. Then when they get back to the body shop for the supplement they complain and complain and complain about how much time you want to fix a dent. Most of the Adjusters are worried about what their boss might say about the difference between what they originally wrote and what the body shop now wants. I am so tired of getting in arguments for the adjusters every time they come back to the body shop for supplements. They are all highly stressed and always come in with an attitude. Basically I go very high with a repair because I know they're going to cry and jump up and down, and want to to cut it down to what I really want to get so that's the trick for me. As a body man, it's just not what I want to do. I just want to fix cars. I don't want to get into it with a adjuster with a bad attitude. They really are tightening the screws on everything these days. I'm seriously considering another career.

I got $11,000 on my 2011 CTS totaled out. I kept refusing their claims that it could be fixed. I took it to a highly rated trusted body shop. All the guy did was look at it as it sat and told me it had serious frame damage. There's no way you're saving that car with the miles that are on it. The fact is it can take months of negotiating back and forth to get what you need out of the vehicle that you have. Most people try to get it done within the window of their rental and just take whatever offer. Don't do that! Especially if someone else was at fault you can go after their insurance company for your rental and then go after yours to extend it. Don't ever take the first estimate!

I had a BMW 2014 and was involved in a very minor accident ended having my car totaled, a beautiful 5 series with a premium package. The adjuster sent me a picture of engine with built up grime stating it was an indication of a leak. I had to dispute that given that I had a warranty on the car and I was servicing my car at the BMW dealership. So you find your car totaled with the adjuster pictures, visual, opinionated judgement vs. BMW sensors and computers. Bear that in mind customers. You are the major stakeholders of the insurance companies and you need to fight for them to show their fiduciaries responsibilities.

Ok I have issues w this. I’m NOT an adjuster but I AM an estimator for a shop. I work w all insurance companies and adjusters. Let me explain how this REALLY works: 1) we write what we see. It’s a preliminary estimate. It’s always subject to change. 2) 9 times out of 10 there WILL BE a supplement. A supplement is for additional damage repair and additional parts, can also be for part price adjustment, three stage paint adjustment, tax adjustments (if tiered), or sublets. 3) an estimate is EXACTLY THAT...an estimate. It is NOT a contract. 4) the insurance adjusters job is to keep labor low n to fix it quickly. If u r in a rental u get shoved ahead than if u r not. So make sure that u have rental coverage. Not everyone understands that n no bodyshop pays for rental cars because u neglected to have it. 5) depending on ur policy n company ur insured w - they can dictate to use AFTERMARKET & USED (recycled), n RECONDITIONED parts. If u want all new OEM - then u may end up paying the difference between what the adjuster put n what the shop orders. For the OEM stuff u can fight w the agent or just tell the body shop manager u want that instead n b prepared to pay the difference in price. Oh n let’s discuss the deductible because 9 times out of 10 y’all don’t get u HAVE to pay that - NOT the insurance company n certainly NOT THE SHOP. U have no idea how many times we argue w customers insisting we bf the deductible because they see that - sign in front they think 1) they don’t need to pay it or 2) they get it bk. Neither is the case. U pay the deductible n no - no shop finances the deductibles. It’s illegal. If they do - then it’s a shady shop. Most of these videos I don’t agree w. I get ppl every day that want a different estimate than what the insurance wrote n argue w me all the time n it’s a real pain being that IM A FEMALE that most men think IM A BLOODY FKING IDIOT (yes I’m still sore about that). The shop will work off of 1 estimate n that’s the insurance estimate. BY LAW WE WORK OFF THE INSURANCE ESTIMATE ONLY. Oh n the part about having a body shop manager meet w u n ur adjuster at ur home or business - NO. Unless that shop is so damn dead they got time to drive out to BFE n meet w u n the adjuster - just have the adjuster write it up n pick a shop n go from there. Hope this helps

Adjusters will write what they can see. An adjuster will never write for something that is "probably damaged under there" without seeing it. Having a body shop tech there won't help if the damage is hidden. That said, an adjuster isn't doing that to cheat you. Adjusters seeing a big hit on a car that isn't torn down, know full well that they'll be going back to the body shop to write a supplementary estimate for additional damages underneath those surface components. The most important thing is to have a competent body shop performing the repairs. If the estimate unfairly undercuts labor hours, or is missing required operations, that body shop manager will submit a supplement and negotiate with the adjuster for the right parts and repair. The vast majority of adjusters truly aren't being dishonest or duplicitous with you. A substandard repair will just end up costing the company more in the long run through additional inspection, double purchasing of parts, or court costs.

There are a few inconsistencies you’re providing to your viewers. Number one insurance companies have an OEM endorsement that you must pay for in order to receive OEM parts for your vehicle unless the vehicle is under 12,000 miles in the state of California. Number two if your vehicle is registered to more than one person then the other person has an insurable interest an insurance company has to protect. You can’t just ask your claims adjuster to make the check out directly to you. Some states have requirements as to when the second party has to be listed on the check.

They do that to save on storage cost. They tow it to a salvage yard they work with and inspect it there for damage and come up with an initial cost to repair or deem it a total loss. After that initial price to repair, you will be asked where you want it towed for repairs. The repair shop will then do their own cost analysis, give it to the insurance company. You will sign paperwork stating you will allow repairs to be done. The shop will start taking stuff apart, maybe find more broken stuff, and let the insurance company know it'll cost more. If the cost to repair becomes more than what the insurance company values the vehicle, it will be deemed a total loss at that point.

Panels aren't lining up right? Redo it. Paint doesn't look right? Redo it. Panels shifted 2 years later? Redo it. Obviously they're incentized to do it right the first time, since me coming back isn't profitable. But if they don't get it right the first time around, I'm covered at least.

Good luck with telling them to re do it all that will lead to is back & forth arguments. The Body shops will not get paid to re do so the chances of them going along with that are slim to none. The estimate would have been basically the same no matter where you went, and in fact, a lot higher without the insurance company involved. Insurance companies have (for the most part) agreed prevailing labor rates with shops in your area, so paying out of pocket, would likely increase the rate at least a few dollars per hour. Unfortunately, that vehicle just isn't going to be worth enough to cover the cost of the parts and labor required to fix it. The damage you see before disassembly, is never the entire picture, and in most cases is at best 80% of the final estimate.

Additionally, the use of the word counterfeit is a joke here. If you're filing a claim with your insurance company, the parts that are written on your estimate are part of the policy in which you pay for. Refusing those parts is essentially refusing parts that you signed up for in the first place. If you want OEM only parts, maybe you should have paid for an OEM endorsement on your policy. What a joke

The insurance adjuster came out to look at the car while I was at work unable to open the vehicle for him, which there was a giant cut in the seat that isn't being accounted for with the money. Additionally some electronic issues, so the first appraisal for the body damage was $1,871. After speaking to a ve4y nice lady who said do not take the money, and that he would have to come out again, now he's saying that once it's at a shop any more $ would be in a check for the body shop. Feel like he's just a dick who doesn't wanna be fair. My question, if I accept the $1,871, why would the other money be written by check to the body shop or any other shop that does electronics. When he looked at the vehicle the car was locked and he was unable to see the interior damage such as a person cutting the front seat, just a game to them it feels like

The shops always want to charge more than they’re owed then blame the insurance company for not paying up. Body shops are filled with the worst types of people.

I need help . I bought policy in march for liability. But after speaking to attorney prior to a different case . Was recommeded to get collision and comprehensive coverage . I did so. One month later while car is parked in my apartment some one or somthing hit my car . I made a claim . My adjuster send me straight to fraud and my car i took it to the shop . Insurance came there and total my car . But never paid me . Shop put a lien to the car. And now no car and no money . What the heck is wrong with progressive .

this video has so many flaws start to finish. you clearly have never been working at a body shop dealing with insurance companies for years on end. your pushing fear based repair practices like customer are getting their car fixed out of the back of someone's garage

he's just ensuring someone yells at an adjuster just doing their job. also, for people to end up paying out of pocket for their repairs.

@@LaymanGamin he's giving bad advise. he isn't helping anyone, but a greedy shop to take advantage of someone. regardless of my profession, I have insight that you do not. do you think this guy is going to fight with an insurance company to pay more than is owed? or do you think he just charges his customers the difference? because reality is, the later is likely true.

Okay. Can you explain what he said that was wrong? Saying that he doesn't know what he's talking about without even elaborating further doesn't make you right.
