When Stone Cold Quit WWE (wrestling documentary)

Спорт

Stone Cold Steve Austin shockingly quit WWE in 2002. Vince McMahon was no longer treating Austin like his top superstar, and the WWF Attitude Era was officially over. In this wrestling documentarym we see how Stone Cold quit WWE twice in 2002, and almost ruined the twilight of his wrestling career. I was one of them. WM 17 was, at the same time, the pinnacle but the beginning of the end of the Attitude Era. Austin turned into a weird, comedic, chicken-shit heel, Rock went off to Hollywood, Triple H got hurt and there was no really big time up-and-coming star to pass the torch to (Jericho was not it).

Austin was right, he carried the company on his back and as soon as Hogan, Nash etc walked in Vince wanted to go straight back to those guys. Yeah, I agree with Austin too. A match between Lesnar and Austin where Austin put Lesnar over SHOULD have been a big deal, one that was hyped up and set for a venue where they can make some real money off of it. Setting it to happen at a free show as just an early match in a tournament would have been a colossal waste. It should've been a dream match with a ton of buildup, but they wanted it to be a forgettable stepping stone. What a freaking misstep by WWE.

I think Vince wanted to put Brock over fast because he knew how difficult Austin was becoming and his neck and knee injuries were also getting worse. He was battered and beaten and his gimmick of the Rattle Snake was wearing thin, since he's achieved everything by then and just became a "What?" meme. Austin leaving signified the end of the extended Attitude Era and The Rock and Taker were the last guards standing, bleeding into this new era that was yet undefined.

Austin had a valid point. Having him job to Brock Lesnar in a throwaway match on free TV made no sense, not to mention it was a qualifier for a tournament Austin has previously won. They should have booked a proper feud between them leading up to a match at a pay per view and then Austin would have put over Lesnar. That would have made it a passing of the torch moment. Regarding the proposed match between Hogan and Austin, Hogan was still a draw but was breaking down physically. Same can be said about Austin with his knees and his neck. Austin was also right about WWE creative at the time. They had no competition pushing them to be better creatively.

I disagree with your statement. Stone cold Steve Austin was bigger than the machine “wwe” It’s all about timing. Had he walked out few years before let’s say in 1998 it would have hurt wwe big time. In 2002 there was little to no real competition. However back in the Monday night wars it would have been a completely different story. Same goes for Sean Michaels, the Undertaker and the Rock. and Bret hart had he gone to wcw a year prior. Stone cold was easily the biggest star out of everyone in a time that was arguably a new golden era for wrestling. His popularity was unmatched and essentially saved WWE along with other wrestlers that I mentioned above.

Austin, Rock, Cena, Flair Batista, and even CM Punk have shown to be better off without the WWE machine. Sure it gave them their first exposure to television but that's like saying Johnny Depp should've stuck to 21 Jump Street instead of doing the critically acclaimed movies he did. I've been a WWE fan my whole life, and I still like them, but since the birth of AEW and the internet providing me other platforms of wrestling, I can honestly say they are not always number one. As much as I agree with Austin’s rationale for leaving in WWE, what did he expect? Of course, you’re gonna move down the card. You can’t main event WM every single year. Did Austin wanna have a career like Hogan’s? Always main event Mania until he was in his late 40’s. It sounds like Austin simply didn’t like the idea of guys like Angle, Lesnar, HHH, and Jericho having their time in the spotlight, at his own expense.

I get that...hell Hogan lost on free TV to Brock himself that summer in the build-up to Brock's showdown with Rock for the Undisputed Title, but why have it be in a King of the Ring qualifier? What point does Austin have being in it? It made zero sense. If anything, maybe have him challenge Brock to a match wherein if he (Brock) lost, he was out of the tournament, but without him being involved directly in it himself, or....have him face him on the way to the aforementioned SummerSlam match, since he and Rock were 1 and 2 in this era as the top guys. Either one woulda made loads more sense than that.

Stone Cold left for a few reasons, 1. Creative 2. Domestic problems 3. Injuries 4. nWo; in no particular order but everything was to much for Stone Cold to take in. Vince seemed to forgot what Austin accomplished since WWF purchased WCW, and it was not a coincidence, Vince didn't need Austin anymore. Austin was only used to catapult WWF to victory in the MNW and that was it, but Vince was and always will be a piece of dog turd.

Austin was totally right. 2002 signaled the begining of the end of WWE's success there were some good moments in the company but by 2004 WWE's product was in the toilet and honestly with the exception of Paige and The Wyatt Family the product is terrible.

WWE is all business. They're definitely not a company that sees their employees and talent as family.

Stone Cold Steve Austin is bigger than the WWE. At least for me. I am watching all the vids with SCSA I can find her on YT. Actual stuff is ..... bs. Keep the WWE.

Austin was ok I guess, but overhyped, short lived, sub par record. Now the undertaker well he is the real #1

He has still avoided being publicly drug through the mud for SA akin to Hogan's controversy with his leaked tape in 2015.

Scott Hall did have substance abuse issues, but to call him washed up is arrogant. Hall was a great performer and a legend.
