Who isn’t a fan of Bollywood's King Khan, Shah Rukh Khan? Fans eagerly wait for a glimpse of him, whether it's Eid or his birthday, thousands gather outside Mannat. Despite his busy schedule, SRK always makes time for his fans.
But did you know Shah Rukh wasn’t always so calm? In the early days of his career, he had a different persona. Let’s take you back to the time when SRK was filming 'Maya Memsaab' with Ketan Mehta. A magazine named Cineblitz published an article claiming that SRK and his co-star Deepa Sahi (also Ketan Mehta's wife) spent a night together to get comfortable for their intimate scenes. This suggestion allegedly came from Ketan Mehta himself.
Shah Rukh, who entered the industry as a married man, was furious. He was desperate to find out who wrote the article. When he did, he called the journalist, who dismissed it as a joke. SRK didn't find it funny.
What happened next was dramatic. Shah Rukh Khan wasn't the SRK we know today but a hot-blooded young man from Delhi.
Anupama Chopra's book "King of Bollywood: Shah Rukh Khan and the Seductive World of Indian Cinema" and SRK's interview with David Letterman provide two versions of the incident. According to Chopra, SRK went to the journalist’s house, while SRK claimed he went to the office. Either way, he caused quite a scene.
The next day, police arrested SRK from the sets of 'Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa' and took him to Bandra Police Station. There are two versions of what happened next. SRK, in an interview, described his brief and unpleasant jail experience. However, Chopra’s book suggests he wasn’t jailed due to his star status, and some cops even took his autograph. SRK made a call to the journalist and threatened him again.
Shah Rukh later said his version was accurate, refuting claims that his star power saved him. Anupama Chopra credits Chunky Pandey’s brother, Chikki Pandey, for helping SRK, while other sources mention Nana Patekar.
SRK was released that night. He then smoked a ci**rette in front of the journalist's house, ensuring he was seen.
Interestingly, the journalist SRK threatened wasn’t the one who wrote the article. SRK apologized two years later when he discovered the truth.
We no longer see this side of SRK, and Thank God for that.
