You have to understand that up untill recently in india, the only way for a woman to rise in society to marry up, as women were not allowed to do that herself (which is still the case in rural india) since a woman's role was limited to being a wife, and a mother (as in to be a housewife and look after the kids) So this mentality is still common

I guess, they sometimes ask hard questions in Beauty Pageants. Priyanka was given 3 men to choose from and she didn't knew any of them personally; she was not in love with them. She had to choose one men from 3 based on what she knows about them as public knowledge. You can't just say no I want a 4th option OR I'll marry whomever I love, this was a beauty pageant question, she has to pick one option and give a suitable reason.

She took a funny question and just made it serious.
