Im a Behavioral Tech and i work in public school classrooms. For Special Needs students ages 3-22. I've had chairs thrown at me , punched by a 6 ft 300+lb SIXTH grader,given a concussion by having a hard soççer ball kicked onto the back of my neck then 2 days later, a tin water bottle thrown with force to my face, a bite so hard on my shoulder that, not only did it make me bleed, but I now have a scar. No one ever suggested that the kids be held legally responsible, because they dont understand! Some are non verbal. They dont understand what theyre doin! Alot of these kiddos have the comprehension of a 3-7 yr old. I feel for their parents!!

My sister just passed at 83; she was born retarded. She wasn't "mentally challenged" she could perform very well at the level of a 13-14 year and had no problem understanding what she could comprehend. Hard to explain, but anyone working or living with such a one knows what I'm talking about. She could get violent, though. One of my memories of us was when I was 13 and I was teasing her about a baseball game her team had lost and she chased me out of the house with a butcher's knife! (A good memory because she couldn't get to within 10 feet of me and I could tease her about it to the end.) She did whack me pretty good more than once, not that I didn't deserve it.

I have similar experiences working in Pediatrics. I agree many of them can’t comprehend that they are wrong but some of them do and enjoy it and they should be held responsible so we do press charges in those cases 🤷🏻‍♀️. It’s really a case by case basis even though jail wouldn’t work for them either. But I do feel bad for the parents and younger siblings who are subjected to their onslaughts.

Believe it or not, sometimes I leave the house in the morning and LEAVE MY PHONE HOME!!! Honest.

Also parents…or guardians kids should not be that attached to electronics to the point that they’d beat someone. I’ve seen this when I was in high school to and it’s honestly crazy. I understand it’s not just an electronic to some kids but still at that point that kid needs some sort of therapy to control their anger as well as being taught that it won’t be the end of the world if it’s taken. I think it’s also a good idea to get the parents involved and have them go to classes as well in one case because those electronics should not be raising their kids and should not be causing this reaction.

That Seidel story, I understand. I asked the cops there for help one time, they ignored me. I actually got in the back they threatened arrest if I didn’t go away….. I ended up at a hospital and they let me sleep for a lil. They kicked me out too. It was weird that in a city of millions, no one would help. I ended up getting robbed that night

For the most part, cops don't care about the people that they are supposed to protect. If you don't give them a chance to go 'hands on' they'll ignore you. It seems that modern police officers are chosen from the group of people that were bullies in school. Sorry to hear about your terrible night.
