I’ve noticed that if people like Raini stand up for themselves & vocalize how much the jokes bother them, the memes just get 10X worse and they get harassed even more with spammed comments making the same jokes over and over again. I’m pretty sure there’s some twisted psychology behind it. Almost like telling a mischievous child to not say a bad word and they repeat it several times to push your buttons. Unfortunately it’s just the way the internet works :(

I hate the internet. They only came for this girl because she was trying to break into a singing and acting career as someone who doesn't have a conventional look. Nobody batted an eye when Selina Gomez was on Disney shows and having shitty Disney produced songs for straight to DVD shows and movies. But when this girl is trying to get her big break, the internet acts like she has no business having confidence.

I like her, there is NOTHING wrong with her so I don’t get why this was so viral. although the internet usually takes a celeb/influencer etc and makes them into a joke for no reason sometimes, i think we need to address the fact that there WAS a reason in this case, and it was because of her appearance. if she was skinny, would she have gotten the same treatment? considering the whole "skinny legend" thing in itself was irony, there's no doubt that was the whole point of the joke. it truly doesn't matter whether or not you are a good person, people will find a way to pick you apart, and sadly for Raini , just like many other plus size celebrities, it was her weight. these people are truly just middle school bullies and know they can get away with it because she's a celebrity and it's online, but it just says more about their character and how they treat fat people.

Exactly. She is beautiful, and talented (yes, she was on Disney Channel, which isn't like, Oscar quality, but it does take a decent amount of talent and charisma to be on Disney). I think the worst part about people making fun of her is that it DOES feel so middle school and centric on her weight and status as a Disney-channel actor. Austin and Ally was a bit past my Disney Channel time, but oh my goodness, it was refreshing to see her on TV and I was bigger as a kid, and it made me feel better to see people like Raini on TV. I can't imagine how many other little girls and boys feel/felt the same way. I hope she continues to not let the hate get to her and keep doing what she loves, because kids appreciate it, I know I did/do.

Yep, there’s just far to many of us on this planet for any type of peace to work even amongst our peers and colleagues. Our overpopulated existence is suffocating our world, and more recently suffocating us with the creation of social media. Back before social media if someone bullied you you either fought back or avoided them, nowadays kids can’t do either. You fight back schools punish you and consider the bully the victim, and you can’t ever avoid them because you aren’t safe at home because you’ll just be targeted online. Bullying builds character and it’s definitely useful, we’re a social species that communicates at a high level “bullying” is used to keep people “socially acceptable” and helps people change into the “ideal” version of themselves. The issues are if a person doesn’t change the bullying doesn’t stop and then you have to either embrace it or drown in it. The other issue is that bullying is only helpful to a certain point and once the line is crossed it pretty much just becomes psychological torture, straight up just damaging people’s mental well being irreversibly.

This is why the Internet is trash. This young girl was bullied beyond belief. I couldn't imagine being a child and dealing with this.

I never understood this because Raini Rodriguez's characters were always my favorite, and I really like her vibe! it goes to show how discrimination comes in a lot of shapes and sizes.

I hope Raini knows theres also an extremely large portion of the internet where people side with her and find the harassment she got, disgusting. I honestly love Raini tbh like i grew up watching austin and ally and all the beverly hills Chihuahua movies and like her music. with all that said tho im glad she seems like she has a very peaceful and positive attitude to help shield her from all those people.

I imagine the most insidious part about being in her situation is that you would begin to have a difficult time believing any genuine praise. Anything nice anyone ever said about you would begin to be indistinguishable from people memeing. She seems like a wonderful person and very admirable, I hope she can see that there are many people who think so.

It's so painful to feel like that... I found out my best friend of 11 years (who had no problem spending my money or staying in my house for months for free) would compliment me in person then send my selfies to our other friends calling me ugly and insulting me. And calling me fat after I gained weight from being bed ridden after an accident. All my other "friends" would all make fun of me with her. I don't believe anything anyone says anymore. I can't let anybody close to me because I think they're doing it to use me or mock me.

I honestly feel like the only reason they bully her is because she looks average and isn’t very popular. this is kind of horrifying to me, it's so mean spirited for literally no reason. like...i can't even begin to imagine what having this happen to you would feel like the internet really forgets there are real-ass human beings who are affected by what they do and say even if it's ~just a meme~

I don't think the term "skinny legend" is fully disconnected from how the person looks. I think some people get an extra kick from applying it to average or bigger people, which is why the term is often applied to Mariah or Xtina (whose weight gains or losses have unfortunately been monitored and reported on for years) or Raini (who is not as thin as most famous child stars)

This is what i've been trying to say!! The term "skinny legend" is meant as the highest compliment, but why? Because people think that being skinny is the epitome of beauty. If there was no correlation to weight then we would just say "legend". Raini did not understand what the phrase meant and felt like she was being bullied (which she was obviously). It's so awful to call someone that and literally photoshop their body to look skinny.

See, here’s the thing. I think these types of jokes from stan Twitter CAN be funny and lighthearted, like for example with all the CupcakKe memes and remixes and the general idolization of CupcakKe. The big difference there is CupcakKe LIKES the attention, she plays along (threatening to call lawyers and whatnot), and the people doing it genuinely are a fan of her music and her as an artist. This is taking it way too far. Most of these people are definitely doing this to poke fun of her even if they don’t realize it.

It stands to reason that some of those people found there way here, and we all know how shallow stans on Twitter are. They'll bully someone and then gaslight them about it the next day lol. I wouldn't doubt some of those stans are in the comments now pretending they were with Rani the whole time

This is all reminding me of middle school, when the popular kids made a fake fanpage for me and jokingly complimented me, but clearly thought I was weird and ugly. If I thought that was bad, I can only imagine how much worse it feels to receive this treatment from millions of people.

exactly. there was an instagram account ran by 4 boys in 7th grade that was used to portray this fake girl who was very lonely and needed a friend to talk to but then they transitioned it to be a guy character that they would pretend that was interested in me, mind u this account lasted for MONTHS maybe about half a year. they used it to get personal information, made me look like a joke and possibly get *photos* from me if yk what i mean. it hurt so bad and for years i had no idea who ran it until just a few weeks ago (now almost 16 in nearly in 11th grade) i was told who ran it and i felt the pain all over again. and that was only 4 random losers who went to my school and only one account and i truly thought it was some of the most vile things that has happened to me, I CANNOT IMAGINE how raini felt for years with millions of teenagers online making fake accounts to bully her, all day every day no breaks. although i’ll never fully fathom what she has went through, i can relate to what it feels like getting bullied for simply just existing, it sucks, it’s exhausting and my heart breaks for not only her but for you too and the couple of others who went through this type of trauma. this is a weird way to end off, but me hearing someone else go through similar things is so refreshing and i hope u can find some relief in my story like i did with urs. i seriously never heard anyone go through anything like it before, for years i felt alone with this type of thing but after hearing urs it made feel better, thank u:).

Oh I agree it probably started as a weight thing right at the beginning, with the "skinny" being a reference to them achieving what they see as an ideal body shape. However the Internet puts everything through so many layers of irony any original meaning will always be lost and that was the case with "skinny legend". It became more about the person in question being unbothered and/or "the perfect star" which in return allowed it for it to become a term for all shapes and sizes, whilst still being a term on endearment. Famous drag artist Trixie Mattel is the first person I think of when I hear "skinny legend" and she is a very average and healthy size, yet she has fully claimed the title of skinny legend because (at least in the eyes of the gay community and thus extended to the stan communities that share similar spaces) it isn't about trying to make someone change their size or idolising a certain look either.

And as someone mentioned before, the “joke” with applying the term with Rain Rodriguez is that she is a plus size girl. And that’s really messed up to do to her. Calling someone a "skinny legend" is most definitely about the desirability of thinness. Yes, the people called it, might not be skinny, but the reason why the term skinny was used in the first place was because people associate being skinny with being desirable, moral, good, attractive, etc.

The Internet is the dumbest place on earth, it lost me back in 2010 honestly. Internet culture is mind numbing.

I rewatch this video every few months just to hear the narrator’s voice. His voice is satisfying.

I forgot that Raini existed, but now that it's brought back into my attention, I remember how much I loved her voice when I was younger. I think I subconsciously took inspiration from her for my own singing. She always performed so confidently and always projected so well. I still don't know what's happening but oh well 💀

This whole situation reminds me of a guy and his friends who used to bully me in middle and high school. I was in the school theatre and whenever I'd go out on the stage they would loudly applaud me and later compliment me, obviously in an ironic and mocking way. And in general, he would make those mocking backhanded compliments all the time. I used to try and laugh it off, convincing myself they were laughing with me and not at me and the whole thing was a big innocent joke. Yeah, it was not. Raini did the right thing standing up for herself. I really feel sorry for her and wish people would leave her alone! That whole meme thing got WAY out of control!

Oh man I can 100% understand. Happened to me as well. I wasn’t the only one either. It was as if they were searching for the next victim to taunt and mock every other month or so. They are the definition of “peaking in high school”

Same, but for me it was sports. Every time I scored a goal, they’d cheer and say "atta boy!!" even tho I’m obviously a girl. Finally I was like bro shut up and I beat his ugly ass

oh my fuckin god im so glad people have finally turned around on this meme because from the beginning i felt it was kinda laughing at her and not with her. although, some of the more lighthearted stuff i thought was funny. the beyonce feud did bring a smile to my face. Raini is so beautiful and talented

I remember when people kept making the “skinny legend” memes, and I honestly couldn’t tell whether the creators disliked Raini or not…it felt too close to bullying I’ve witnessed and/or experienced in person
