At 6ft 2 220lbs with a high level wrestling background, known for taking down Jon Jones in high school.. Matt Riddle was on the path to becoming a huge name in the world of MMA with his stoner dude personality, however due to failed drug tests and beef with Dana White his UFC run was cut short!
He started out his MMA career in the Ultimate Fighter in 2008 making it all the way to the UFC, he had a solid record of 8 wins and 3 losses. He just couldn't put down the weed and when Dana White had enough of Matt Riddle's inability to pass a drug test he sent Riddle packing with some harsh words in 2013.
But this was the best thing that could've happened to Matt Riddle as he would transition into professional wrestling, and become one of the biggest names in the WWE..

Which is even funnier because Matt JUST came back to WWE, and WWE was Sold to UFC. I'm not too hip to what goes on in the MMA world so I don't know if Dana is still in charge of it or whatever he was. But if he is, I have to wonder if anyone in the UFC, as in the people running the company, not the fighters, will have any say over what goes on in WWE. Hopefully this doesn't bite Matt in the ass, because dude is a damn good wrestler and I'd hate it if they tried to pull some petty bs on him.

@@oldironsides4107 True, he never fought in professional MMA before TUF, but he was a really good amateur wrestler in high school. He was New York's individual state champion in HS wrestling in 2004 and he even beat Jon Jones twice as they both were in New York at that time.
He proved he was a real fighter before he joined the UFC when he beat Jon Jones in college.

Though I don't drink or smoke or fight these days i do know that weed does not increase your ability to fight and you still feel pain it does not numb it nor reduce it. Rogan is trying to to say that the weed is performing in a way where as it's the adrenaline that is doing all the work. It's mid level thunk cause he know a lot of his listeners is not going to call him out on his sht and one of the reasons I had to stop listening to his pod cast 5 years ago

Actually Elijah Theodore was Campaigning for fighters to not be band for failing drug test for Cannabis. He had his own distillery an brand of Cannabis, he actually successfully did it in other Smaller organizations, Meanwhile Nick Diaz was getting Banned for 5 years. An Nate was refusing to fight. I saw Riddle during his time as an indie wrestler after UFC, before WWE, in a bar in Portland and I can tell you he was just built different, that dude is probably the most athletically gifted human I've ever seen IRL. If WWE knew how to book professional wrestling, instead of "making movies", he'd be one of the top faces in the company and a legit title contender, not riding a g-d razor scooter.

I agree but it could have been worse. His last name. WWE could have made him play the gimmick of the Riddler and have him dress in a Riddler costume. WWE has been shit for years but especially after they bought WCW. Other then the fact that their TV production quality was always worse than WWE, WCW had Flair as their champion and yes, I know it's scripted but they never changed the script, he almost always won by "cheating" cut to today and you have Reigns basically playing the part of Flair and the bloodline, playing the horsemen. Matt Riddle defeated Jon Jones during a wrestling tournament in 2004. The WWE star went to Saratoga Springs High School, while the current UFC fighter represented Union-Endicott High School. Riddle won the tournament after beating the former UFC Champion, while the latter finished third.
His entire pro career took place in the UFC...very impressive. He likely makes more money than most UFC champs nowadays too.

Two things about this video #1 coming into the Ultimate Fighter it’s no way no how they didn’t know Matt smoked. Dana out here siding with the consensus with the media to save face and threw Matt away when he didn’t need him. #2 the things they said about marijuana didn’t age really well cause now in a lot of jobs they don’t even test for for marijuana anymore. Hell in most sports they stopped testing for weed cause it’s a better understanding of it and the benefits of medical marijuana.

Bro your saying this now cause weed is legal in many states they didn’t do research like we do know about Cannabis, this was back then 2007-2013 thank Elijah Theodore he helped with that Whole Cannabis band thing he started with CBD they saw that was good for recovery with inflammation it then later was tested more an he actually helped band that rule in smaller organizations an now we have all this. I recommend you watch his interview with the Schmo, the man doesn’t get that much credit hes only known as the 34 who died in UFC.

Talked to MR many times at Golds Gym. Very laid back liked the gym lifestyle. He did not speak well of Dana. It was strictly business. And according to one of our conversations, MR told me he left the UFC because DW reneged on a promise. DW changed his mind on something he and Matt agreed to. DW's parting words to Matt were, " You will never amount to anything." Well MR is now part of the tag team world title holders and making out pretty well for himself. Congrats Bro and continued success.

Matt went from making 162k a year, to fighting in the independent wrestling scene, to getting a contract with the WWE and making much more. In a way Dana was right because Matt is making more money.

What's interesting is that he got his big break in UFC, then leaves/released from UFC, then makes his way into WWE, and now WWE is bought by and partnered with UFC and Matt Riddle just made his WWE return. They would be stupid to let Riddle go or stifle him creatively.

Seeing Joe Rogan talk negatively about weed is irony at its finest. But he acts like weed makes you super human. Weed also slows your response time. It is by no means a performance enhancer imo.
