When Lions (Drag Strip) Roared! Iconic So-Cal Racetrack History - Stacey David's Gearz S17 E8
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
This time on Gearz, we race down memory lane with a visit to the Lions Automobilia Museum. The reason? To tell the story of the iconic Lions Drag Strip that gave Southern California hot-rodders and drag racers a home from 1955-1972. You can almost smell the scorched rubber and Nitro as Stacey turns back the clock to a time when a guy in his garage could swap a cam and a carb, and then show up for a Saturday race ready to go! From Hot Rods to Gassers…Funny Cars to Top Fuel, you’re gonna see it all, and get a front row look at the history of the track that helped create the crazy car culture that defined the 1960’s, and the golden era of drag racing. So put on your Rat Fink T-shirt, strap in, and hold on…because we’re going back to a time when Lions Roared!!

@@OfficialStaceyDavid just know you are and have been Soneone I’ve looked up to since I was like 10 !
When I was a young kid, I used to live a few miles away and could hear the engines as they roared down the track. My friends and I would ride our Schwinn stingway bikes there when they were closed and squeeze thru the gaps in the chain link fence and wander around and collect spark plugs that were discarded all over the ground. When I got older, I used to go to the other local strips as well like Irwindale and OCIR (Orange County). As well as Ascot Speedway. Now all closed and paved over. I had not heard of the museum before now but will someday try to visit it. I have some old drag racing photos they might be interested in having.
Spent many days and hours watching and racing at Lions both Saturday and Sunday and back the next week!

It is so sad to see all the older big name tracks that are closing up and fading away

Well. Since the younger generation is less and less interested in driving this is what you get. The same way guitar music is getting progressively less and less. Kids aren't interested in learning how to play.

Perfect content.
What are you Workin' on? - The car is running and driving, still a few small items to get straight before alignment and inspection. She wants to have it running before school starts in 3 weeks.

Very cool!
SMH 😂😂😂I wonder how easy to find and cheap those detroit blowers were back then?
Baby Boomers: Baby boomers were born between 1946 and 1964. They're currently between 57-75 years old (71.6 million in the U.S.) Oh Yes Mickey Thomson and Don't forget about Socal with their belly tank racers breaking land speed records! Drag Racing and Salt Flats racing were and are the bomb for me! Yes if Big Daddy Don Garlits didn't have that major engine blowout. The rear engine dragster may never have been created.
Your still in California? What's wrong with you?
