3 reasons why you should AVOID traveling during Golden Week! What it is and why it's called this way
• Why You Should AVOID T...
*The content is based on personal studies and experience
There is no intention of denying other theories and cultural aspects
The best time to travel to Japan in my opinion is MAY, but avoid “Golden week” which is at the beginning of the month.
January and February are the coldest months, March and April are super crowded with the cherry blossoms, June and July have the tsuyu rainy season, August and September are the hottest and most humid months, October and November are crowded with the Autumn leaves, and December is also very cold and busy with everyone celebrating the end of the year.
May, in a good way, doesn’t have any big events so the historical sites for example aren't that crowded, and the weather/temperature is neither hot nor cold. However, May does have the series of 3 consecutive holidays called “Golden week” at the beginning of the month, which is when Japanese people tend to take vacations and travel, so you just have to avoid this specific time.
Please keep in mind that this is just for people who want to travel to Japan when it's the least crowded and comfortable in terms of weather/temperature, and every other season has its charms too.

I went to Japan in early March last year, just before Covid really kicked off...so glad I did. Managed to see some early sakura blossoms in Ueno Park. Previous trip was in November, and the autumn leaves were beautiful. Absolutely you're right about every season having its charms, but late May sounds delightful. Thank you so much for the advice.

I visited Japan at the end of May 2019 and got hit by that heatwave. That being said, it was great to visit just ahead of Tsuyu and see things like the fireflies around Gion as well as the Kamogawa Odori. I'm hoping to revisit for November 2022

Best month for me to visit is November to April for Japan .
Being someone who wants to travel around the world, I think the cherry blossoms would be great. It would be a great welcome and seeing them fall while visiting places might give off that beautiful atmosphere. But I will definitely take this advice.
My wife, son and I visited Japan exactly during Golden Week. It was actually fine, because it was nice to see Japanese people enjoying some leisure together, instead of just working themselves to death.
Someday I want to travel to Japan during the cherry blossoms (: I spent so much time on my animal crossing island during the cherry blossom season, also watching livestreams of the real life cherry blossoms in Japan 😍 🌸

Very informative. I'd like to travel to Japan when it's Winter because there's no Winter season in my country. But knowing what's the best month to travel around without any big event going on (which mean crowded places) coming first hand from a native citizen of Japan is also very helpful. Thank you so much for the information Mr. Shogo.

I traveled to Japan right before new year and traveled back to my country at the end of januari. NEVER ever ever travel to japan at the end of december, it's the busiest time of the year. train stations and shinkansens are PACKED with people like crazy. It's not fun to stand in between them with a large backpack or suitcase. I stood 4 hours packed against other tourists and locals in the Shinkansen. It was horrible. There was not 1 seat available and you also can't stand in a path in a wagon. You MUST stand in the hallway if you don't have a seat.

You never want to travel to a cold place if you don’t understand how to travel in snow. And especially not in a foreign country. Snow can be charming at first but it’s frozen ice and therefore dangerous, especially if you don’t understand how it works.

I take your point about crowds, but I would love the see Japan in autumn. Thank you for the video!
Hottest and most humid months My country who is beside the equator: *perfect*
I went in October of 2015. Although it was chilly between Tokyo, Hakone and Kyoto, I really enjoy it. Being from Florida, I welcome the cold.
I'd visit japan any other day! Be it crowded or not. The crowds shows how beautiful the scenery is. No matter how beautiful it is its pointless if no one appreciates. You can also see a different kind of people who appreciates the beauty that you also do. For me I think its great.
I always had the feeling, that May is already too hot 😅 March/April didn't feel too crowded to me and it's beautiful 🤩
I've always loved cold weather, so January and February seem like the ideal times of the year
I remember visiting during June and it wasn’t that bad imo. Tho then again, a CEO from a manga localizer once said on a visit to my area that he was reminded of Tokyo summer when getting out of the vehicle the first time, so that’s probably why I wasn’t bothered lmao. I still want to do cherry blossom viewing someday though, even if I’d have to fight crowds and higher fares.
Little does Shogo know, I'm a die hard fan of anime, therefore Golden Week in May is ideal because Dragon Ball is awesome!
well dang, looks like i'll be melting then lol i'm going for the first 2 weeks of September next year for my birthday. the Shimanami kaido cycling route on my birthday. Can't think of a better way to spend my birthday than the gorgeous scenery of Japan and the inland sea culminating in the most beautiful sunset. Simply Perfection.
My birthday is on May so I see this as an absolute win
I would love to see the cherry blossom trees I'm actually so interested in Japan that I'm trying to learn Japanese! I would love to go with my family and help them learn some things
I've have been going to Japan for 5 years in a row now (before the pandemic) and I tend the travel at the beginning of May (during or just after Golden Week) and the weather is amazing. I would like to visit during the autumn sometime and see the autumn colors though.
I think soring and autum is also good… winter in hokaido also beautiful
August and September ain't a problem as for me already living in hot and humid tropical country.
I feel like winter might be my time. Having lived my whole life in Quebec got me prepared for some of the harshest winters 🤔

“When is the best time to travel to Japan?” 1945
I love cherry blossoms and autumn leaves let’s go
You just made May more crowded with your popularity and advice
Went to Japan in 2019 for my honeymoon, we went the second week of May and stayed for 2 weeks and stayed in Kyoto, Hiroshima and Tokyo. It was amazing, the weather was perfect (except the one day we went to fuji) and I cannot wait to be able to visit again 😍
Thank you, I'll keep that in mind when I'm able to travel
I'd personally wanna see maximum cherry blossom, stuff is gorgeous.
I enjoy rainy weather so a day filled with rain would be enjoyable in my case.
I went to japan during november and yeah he says the maple leaves are everywhere but I honestly love it alot
imagine May becoming the busiest tourist month in Japan because of this video
Now you’ve revealed our secrets our opportune month has been taken 😭
My birthday is right at the start of may, so its weirdly sad that its a better time to go late may.
First time I went was in August. Goddamn that was one humid summer in Tokyo. The second time I went was in July. That rain was unlike any other. It came out of nowhere. It's like the heavens just suddenly decided that heavy windy pour was what Tokyo needed for a week. But next time I'll aim for May.
That's perfect for me! Since my summer vacations are usually in May so if I were travelling to Japan it would probably be in May.
I would love to visit when the cherry blossom is abundant
As someone who lives in a place which is always very hot and humid, def going on august/september
I do want to see the cherry blossoms eventually. Although I might come when it's cold as I'm used to the cold
March and April sound amazing 😆
Me in Sapporo the January 1st: fresquito 👍
I’d like to go in cherry blossom season, it seems so cool.
I must have been very lucky. I was there from mid December until the end of the 2019 and got great weather and very little crowds everywhere I went. Even the trains weren't packed at all. It was amazing.
I'd love to go during the rainy season since I love the rain
I'm to poor to travel to Japan but I would go in March just because I like cherry blossoms 🌸
Have you made a video on what items you shouldn't and should bring to Japan? If not, I'd like to know this.
I remember i traveled to Japan in march and it was still winter there, no cherry blossoms but as always, it was crowded.
And here I was just randomly thinking of going on may since it’s less expensive and apparently it’s a great month to travel! :)
I think I’d want to go during the rainy seasons because I love the rain
Me and my friend were there early 2020, got back a couple weeks before travel was closed from the USA, we loved our time there
I’d love to visit during March or April, I’m a big fan of the cherry blossom trees there 🌸
My birthday is in February and even in the states where I live, weather is always not so great. But for Japan, I can certainly adapt!
Well I promised my sister we’ll go at the cherry blossom season there, because she always wanted to see them!
I'm glad it's in my birthday month I can travel to my favorite country on my birthday. Yes.
I’m so glad I’m travelling at the end of May!! So excited!
The autumn one sounds nice
For my first time travelling to Japan I would go on may but again not golden week and if I do travel every once in a while I would start going other months as well from least crowded to most ☺️
I would personally wanna go March or April because Cherry blossoms 🌸
I love end of September and beginning of October. Everything is still warm and green but not as hot as in august.
Just the thing which I was looking for, to travel when it's less crowded. Thanks for the knowledge...☺🙏
I want to travel there during rain season
I spent two years at school it Tokyo one of my favourite places love the cherry blossoms
If I ever go to Japan, it seems like January, February and may are the best for me, I’m used to cold weather, colder than in Japan, thank you for this information
Thank you I'll keep this in mind for the future.
I so badly have always wanted to go just to see the beautiful pink blossoms and nature.
I wanna go there ANYTIME, Japan is just like a fantasy from a movie, but it's so real and in my opinion, the most beautiful country in the world.
I visited japan in january 2019 it was amazing! I went to ride snowboard in the best powder snow in the world. The catch is that it was the worst year for snow in the last 50 years, i was crying in the middle of the slopes! Still best travel experience ever.
would love to see the cherry trees bloom 😍
Thank you for the info. I'll use it towards my travel plan
I wanna see cherry blossoms so this is helpful
I went in early December and it was one of the best experiences in my life
How interesting I went to Japan in May, but it was because School ended during that time for me. Thank you for all of your interesting facts!
Man i remember living in Japan, it was amazing
I love the cold and rain so I'll maybe go in those months when I can
Thanks man. Now May's gonna be crowded too
I'll go during summer thank you very much, I'm used to humid heat 😤
I didn't know it would be this complicated 😂 but any month is fine for as long as I will be able to travel to the country that I was greatly influenced🇯🇵
I wouldn’t mind the cheery blossoms, especially if I bring a broom
I love autumn but yeah definitely cherry blossom is the best 🤩
I’ve been to Tokyo and fukuoka in May. Due to global warming it can get a little warm and humid like early 20 degrees celcius. It’s definitely less crowded and there are some nice flowers in bloom. But I still prefer spring and autumn because of cherry blossom and foliage. And yes it’s more crowded but during autumn at least the tourists are spread out over 2 months.
Definitely will keep that in mind I'm not a crowd person much but I've always wanted to visit Japan
The best time to travel to Japan is my birthday. I feel honored 😌
tbh for me seeing cherry blossom gotta be my main priority hahaha
I want to travel Japan too see cherry blossoms and i can go there for my bday too as it is in March
Thank you for letting me know. I'm actually getting a paid trip over there, I've always wanted to go to Japan for so long.
From where I'm from I'd probably be wearing shorts and a t shirt during January and February 😂
Someday I want to travel to Japan so this will help! I’ll keep this in mind! Also born in may(May 5)
i would go to japan at the rainy season cuz i already like the rain and japan would make it much more relaxing and with a lil bit of lofi it would be all cool..
Actually solid advice
I’ll put up with crowds for the cherry blossoms. I can’t wait to see them one day. 😻
Right, now May will also be crowded due to this advice 😂
April and October are my favorite times to visit Japan. Cherry blossoms and Kyoho grapes!
I would like to go to Japan on March and April because I would love to see the cherry blossoms take some really nice pictures
i wanna see the cherry blossom if i visit japan someday. i thinks it'll be really pretty and amazing view.
